    Re: The Comeback AI thread

I asked some days ago what people were noticing after the patch and no one has replied. I haven't had the time to test enough games with the patch but I was getting pounded on Veteran both with CPU CB Off and On. davewins, brunoce, and those CB believers, are you playing with the patch, does CPU CB On still work (it isn't for me)?

    Thanks

pitching a 2 hitter with AJ Burnett. winning 1-0 until the 7th inning when I score 3 runs. BIG MISTAKE. Bottom of the inning the Os score 3 runs to make the score 4-3. I put in Marte next inning who has a 2.42 ERA for me, he proceeds to give up 3R without recording an out. What a joke.

For what it's worth....I am playing with the patch and I played a few games with it OFF just to see how it plays. I went ahead 6-0. I do everything perfect on the mound and they end up getting 7 runs. Let me say that in all the games I play I just about NEVER (yes take that literally) get more then 3 or 4 runs in a game. My offense has been awful which is because of my own skill. I started doing something different while batting and now I am hitting good. I scored 6 runs against the CPU and they came back with 7 the next inning. I also want to let you know that I NEVER (again take it literally) give up more then 3 or 4 runs a game. 99% of my games are 3-2, 4-3, 1-0, 2-1. Then when I finally bust out and get 6 runs in the 1st inning the CPU jumps right back and gets 7.

Playing with this option set to ON with the patch I have won 9-1.

I can't give any kind of stats to prove/disprove anything but I can tell you how I feel about this and I am positive in MY mind that it's broken. It's all about how you feel when you play but there is no way it's just a coincidence that the one time I happen to score 6 runs also the CPU gets more then 6 runs and I never allow OR get that many runs/game.

If I've understood correctly, the CPU Comeback ON "workaround" is still working for you? I ask because when I downloaded the patch, even with CPU Comeback ON I was getting pounded from the start and could not hang onto my leads. That fact alone scared me more than Franchise crashes and the disappearance of Highlights and deleted the patch.

Where are you guys seeing this option? In Franchise mode, I have searched for it over and over again and am not seeing it.
            It's only a video game.

It's only available from the in-game options screen. Sorta like the extra sliders were last year.

Don't waste your time with it. I thought there was a comback AI and maybe there is a little, but the more you play, you will see that you are in control of it for the most part.

That must be why I can't find it. I play Manage Only mode, so I'm pretty sure it isn't there.

I was going to fool around with it, because even in MO mode, it seems the CPU team (yeah, I know, both teams are CPU teams in Manage Only mode, I'm referring to the team that isn't mine) always has this amazing ability to make the game close by the 7th or 8th. It's almost like bullpens are worthless. It never fails. As soon as I take the starter out and bring in a reliever, he promptly gives up 2 or 3 runs to allow the CPU back in the game.

But if the option isn't even there, I will just assume that comeback doesn't exist.

I've played a lot more games also and was pretty skeptical but not anymore, i'm sure now there is NO comeback AI.

There are times where the other team will get hot but I've been able to stop these situations a lot better now with on-time mound visits and pitcher substitutions, etc. I've also learned a much better batting ritual that is finally getting me some runs.

The scores seemed much more varied to.

I just think alot of the frustration comes from the fact that people on here don't like that the CPU can score. They're used to playing video games and dominating, and so it's hard for people accept that baseball is a back and forth game and The Show captures it very well.

Example: Todays Reds vs. Cards game (the real one), the Cards jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Bottom of the 1st, Reds promptly tied it. The Cards then jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Bottom of the inning, the Reds hit a 2-run HR and it's now 4-3. I have to wonder if Tony LaRussa is in the dugout complaining about comeback code in the MLB.

EDIT: Rosales with a HR. Tied again at 4-4. Darn MLB Comeback Code!!!!!!!!!!!

That's surely not the case with me. I want a challenge. I just don't want the CPU to comeback on me artificially. I know when I mess up on the mound just like pitchers know in real life when they throw a bad one.

When I go a ridiculous amount of games with only scoring 3-4 runs a game max because I am slumping in my hitting and the CPU gets the same amount of runs then finally I bust out and get 6 runs and the CPU gets 7 it's ridiculous. It's not realistic. It feels completley scripted to keep the game close.

I ask myself why do I see the CPU always keeping it close with this option OFF but with it ON I have won 9-1, 12-4, 9-2, etc. Never came close to winning by that much with the option OFF in over 100 games played.

Like I said....it's more then coincidence for me that I finally bust out and get 6 runs in a game and the CPU jumps right back with 7. Not only do I VERY RARELY get more then 3 or 4 runs in a game but I also VERY RARELY give up more then 3 or 4 runs in a game. Not coincidence to me.

Then why not keep it ON and be done with it?

I also feel there are moments when the game feels incredibly scripted, even in Manage Only mode. But there's nothing I can do about it. I'm not sure how the continued discussion is solving anything. Not to pile on you by any means and I don't want this to sound combative, but you always seem to pick one or two issues every year and beat them into the ground like a good sinker. If you've found a solution by turning Comeback ON, then I'd say that's the key and you should continue to play that way.

I am stating what I see. This is a comeback thread. Somebody wanted my opinion here.

You always seem to like to argue.

I do play with comeback ON. I am not complaining about the game.

Whats your problem dude? I don't see the need for your offensive post seriously.

And if you think I beat issues into the ground then you can thank me for them fixing hitting this year because last year I wasn't even in the message boards because guess what. I didn't play the game. I played the demo and constructively criticized the game. 320 ft flyouts opposite field off the label of the bat was good enough reason for me not to buy the game last year. They completley fixed that this year. They made the best baseball game to date. Are you happy now that I am praising the game?? This is the best baseball game to date. Does that make you feel good??

I'm not asking you to praise the game. Where did I even once hint that I'm one of those people? Trust me, I've had my fair share of complaints and in no way do I think this game is perfect. If you'd take a timeout from your endless rants to read what others post, I think you'd see that I post my criticisms just like you do. I even posted a few times in this thread regarding comeback.

Whatever. I tried to preface my comments by saying I wasn't being combative or attacking you. I honestly wasn't. But you took it that way anyway, so there's no further need for me to communicate with you. You'll beat that dead horse regardless. I'll bow out this thread now, since I discovered today that Manage Only mode doesn't have this option anyway.
