Re: Community Day Questions, Answers, and Impressions

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I'm curious if anyone knows how MLB 10 handles games that you save in progress. I actually used that feature in 09 for the first time today, and I noticed that after I resumed the game, some of the minor stats from earlier in the game were messed up; namely, when they showed Zambrano's pitches by inning, the innings I played before I saved showed as zero pitches each inning, although his total number of pitches was correct. I'm not sure if any other minor stats were wrong; certainly the major hitting and pitching stats seemed to be fine. I wonder if they fixed this in MLB 10 or if they at least put in a workaround so that the pitches by inning graphic wouldn't appear after resuming a game.

Another thing I noticed after resuming my game is that the rumble feature had been changed from off to on, yet all of the other settings for the game were correct. Has this been fixed in 10?

How about the glitch in which the managers' uniforms will suddenly disappear, revealing an undershirt; that was probably one of the more glaring errors presentation-wise that I was reminded of when I picked up 09 again today. Hopefully that's been taken care of.

Thanks for the info if you know anything about this stuff; I hope I'm not making anyone repeat anything here; sorry if I am.

A step further with this question. I got in some trouble with the ole lady last year for not wanting to leave when we needed to do certain things because I did not want to do the in game save for one reason. When you saved the game and restarted, the pitchers confidence meter was placed back in the middle (where it started the game) whether he was having a rough outing or a great outing. I sure hope they fixed this issue to where it will continue in the same spot as you saved it in. IMO this is a big deal for realism. Knight, Jim, anyone know the answer to this? Thanks for all you guys do for us

My first ever question in this topic:

-Did they fix that score board/screen problem that they had every single year? The one where let's say A-Rod gets an RBI sac-fly, on the replay it will show "RBI". You understand what I'm saying? It's the replay and the run didn't score yet and it says it.
Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather.

Hmmm, so that would explain why I was having a rough outing before the save, but turned it around to win the game after I resumed. Interesting.

This has nothing to do with Community Day, but I'm a brand new PS3 owner and picked up a 20 dollar used copy of MLB 09 to tide me over until the new game comes out so I figure I'll ask this here instead of cluttering the already bustling forums. I finally started a RTTS player and am loving the experience (and I can't BELIEVE they actually have my last name in there for the announcing calls!). Anyway, is there any reason to dump training points into things like plate discipline and stealing aggressiveness? Aren't these things totally dependent on the user? I'd love to hear what vets of the game have to say about this. Thanks.

I personally don't upgrade them unless it is a goal by your manager.

Yes they can make a difference. They can effect how quickly you can get back to the bag on a pick off and if you sim a game your stats could take a hit if your guy swings at everything. I never used to upgrade base-running ability and I kept getting caught when my guy would react slowly was frustrated thinking it was the game. Bumped up my skill and boom my guy started running the paths better. Remember this is a simulation of baseball. If your player uses a skill regularly he needs to work on that skill to get better.

I would like to know if this was fixed as well. This is the reason why I never saved in game lol.

I never even realized it was a problem.
                    I didn't look for that.
Do you know if it was in the bugs/glitches thread?.....because I broke that thread down for Russ to give to the team.

Sorry first if these questions have been asked, will it be possible to breakup a doubleplay this year and also when you hit one up will you see the infielder or outfielder lose the ball in the sun or lights or just flatout drop the ball? in 09 if you hit one up you automatically knew it was an out, this just adds to the realism of the game, these 2 things were 2 of my main gripes from 09 , well anyway thanks and keep up the great work.

Double plays will get broken up but not through collision detection. They are specific canned break-up animations that give you the impression a collision has taken place. There are a variety of them ranging from jumping out of the way to getting taken out totally. Sometimes the throw gets off sometimes it does not.

I did not witness any outfield gaffs, there are some in the game but appear to be very far and few between. The outfield error variety and frequency need more attention imo.

Just a point of interest I was playing my RTTS the other day and saw just the opposite. I popped up straight over second. I rounded first like I always do even if i know I am going to be out. The second baseman got under the ball for the catch and then the short stop came over and the second basemen stepped back. The ball landed in between them and bounced over the short stops head. "Guaranteed" out turned into a double. So you never know play it out all the time!
