Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
is the fielding just like the old Show? does it feel robotic and "scripted" a bit when you get close like the game takes over for you?
or is it like old MVP series where basically you controlled the fielder all the way through?Comment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
Ah, so it doesnt mean the speed of the pitch coming towards you is any different, just that the pace of the game itself can be made slower, more relaxing etc?Comment

I had seen some confusion about this, but now that someone mentioned HH it's really easy to understand.Comment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
So with the new broadcast cam i think i read that they kept getting the same animation for long home runs does this mean they took out the home run camera because i love that. Also on road to the show when i hit home runs i always got that same behind the back view is that the same this year? Thanx in advanceComment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
I played it for about 40 mins.. Felt like 10.
The start button was messed up.. I kept trying to use my car keys but that didnt help much. So with that said it was too much of a pain to try and pause or to start over and play through different things. I wanted to keep some things as a surprise for when I get it over the weekend, so I just played an exhibition game. Giants @ Yankees.
The start up presentation looked similar to last years but with some noticeable improvements. Just the way the camera pans, it looks just like a real, live baseball game.
The warm up pitchers thing is pretty cool. I started Hughes (Joba is the 5th starter in the game) and Hughes looks VERY realistic. 100% improvement over years past. His delivery IMO is perfect.
The fielding (without the meters.. it wasn't set that way by default and like I said the start button was messed up) felt a lot smoother. I didnt overthrow Tex once!
Yankee Stadium was re-done.. Or improved. The Yankees bullpen is now correct. They added the Championship years on both sides of the bleachers (like they should be).. I even noticed the 3 LCD TVs in the bleachers for sections 201 and 239!
There is a scoreboard clock that acts like a real clock. Game started at 7:05 and the time was progressing throughout each batter. I had to be something like 2 pitches (maybe 3) per minute and then about 3-4 mins per each half inning. In other words if you get the third out at say 7:14 PM, when you come back next half inning, it will be 7:18 or so. I've never seen this done in a game before but it made it feel that much more realistic.
Check swinging is without a doubt fixed.. Hopefully it stays this way for online. I have faith it will.
Cano's batting stance is finally about perfect.
I didn't notice the Swisher thing..But I wasn't looking for it.
Sound was low on the TV (I put it up to 100) and this Best Buy was noisy when I went, so I can't really give an accurate account of the crowd noise and announcing.
Can't wait to get this over the weekend..Comment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
Mine had the start button on their controller almost covered by some plastic thing. It was impossible to press, but you and I had the same idea with the car key. I actually got it to work, though.
I also noticed, as you did, that check swinging seemed to work miles better than in 09. Such a welcome tweak for a guy who free swings like myself.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
Went to Best Buy earlier today and played it on a nice I would say at least, 42" LCD tvI played 09 nonstop for a while, and I have to say this game blew me away! Some things I will mention I did before going into detail. I play with auto fielding, auto base running, and classic pitching. I use the API, where catcher calls for pitches, and I pretty much always pitch what he suggests.
I messed with sliders as well after a game...I put HUM contact and power all the way up, and CPU pitching slider tweaks to get them to throw more balls etc...
The last game I played was Tigers @ Twins(Me), just to see the new ballpark. Very nice ballpark btw, I am now thinking about doing my season with the Twins cuz of it. I singled with Span, then stole 2nd with him. Drove in the run with Mauer with a 2 out single. Tigers came back and scored 1 in the first. They continued to score and led 3-1 after 4 innings. In the fifth I hit a ball in the gap with 2 men on base for a 2rbi triple! Can't remember who it was i hit it with. I then grounded out to 2nd to score him to make it 4-3, my lead going into bottom of 5th.
That's where things fell apart! Ordonez led off the fifth with what must of been a 12-15 pitch at bat, before I finally got him to ground out up the middle. After that Icouldn't get anyone out. I was up to 100 pitches with Baker in the 5th! Had to pull him out, and the bullpen did no better. I kept walking guys, actually hit one guy with the bases loaded, then walked another with Lirano with bases loaded. By the time the inning was over it was 10-4 Tigers lead! So they scored a total of 7 runs lol...I quit the game after that cuz i was already there for a good almost 2hours, and employess kept lookin at me weird haha...
I even started a RTTS as a catcher, drafted by Yankees. I liked how I had batting practice where u are pitched 20 pitches, and your overall for certain things go up if u do well enough. In the game as the catcher was really cool. I enjoyed selecting the pitch and location for the pitcher. I only played a half inning, then quit to play against a guy there. He was no good, I was up 6-0 after first inning with te Cubs against his Cards. I'm thinking about going back before the night is up to play again, if you guys want me to check somethin out lemme know!Comment

Re: This game seriously blows my mind
Regardless of that though I don't intentionally hold down the button that long, it's more instinctual. It's sort of like when you hit the ball near the foul line you kind of bend the other way so that the ball won't go foul. Obviously your bending is not going to influence the trajectory of the ball one iota. It's just a natutral thing to do.
I by nature of the heat of the moment press down hard on the R2 when I dive & try to make sure the ball goes in the glove. By the time that happens & the R2 is released, it's too late. The ball is going to go to home even if I press the ball to first base. Try it in a heat of the moment situation, you will see what I mean.
The thing is, there is the right stick (R3) that can be used to dive for the ball too. However the right stick is much less suited for this function since you have to take your thumb away for the face buttons to do this. You want your hand near the face button at all times to be able to press the button to throw the ball to the bag.
However using the R2 button works much better in that you do not have to move your thumb away from the face button in order to press the R2 with your index finger.
The bottom line here is, that the throw home function of the R2 is both an undocumented (you can verify this by checking the book or the on screen help) throw to home & is completely redundent, since you can throw home by pressing the "X" face button.
All I ask is it be eliminated & then one does not have to totally concentrate to make sure to leave go very early (only tap) of the R2 in order to avoid having a nice play get messed up because the CPU is programmed to throw the ball home if the R2 button is held down instead of just tapped.Comment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
some things I noticed while playing the kiosk version (I'm hoping this is an old build)
*saw the no numbers on baserunners in the window, sucks but its ok..
*SCEA seemed to give out stingier potential ratings & I am very curious how they play out in franchise play...Ryan Church and Chris Dickerson have D's!!!!! wtf...I heard they can change depending on performance in franchise mode so I'll hold my breath...Homer Bailey is an A potential, however, so thank you
*power ratings might still be a tad bit high, JaSnake if you are reading this we still need to do the re-rates I believe...I'm going to go back to a store tomorrow and try and sim a franchise and take pics for you fellas...
*still disappointed to see the lack of stats on a player-card...nothing beyond the ab, avg, hr, rbi...sigh...
*STILL also a TON of generic stances/motions...no change from 75% of stances from '09 i believe...Bruce's is still wrong, Brandon Phillips is way wrong...Griffey Jr.'s is still a huge eye-sore
*the pitching meter is def. a bit different, harder to locate pitches...I feel like they toned down the a.i. a bit though and if you make a mistake (i was on veteran tho) you might get away with it a bit more...
sorry if i wrote stuff that others have already just don't have the time to read through all these threads...hope i gave somebody some insight on the game...Comment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
That makes the pitch speed slider even more crucial for me to check out. I can only hope they didn't speed it up more than last year (I know some felt it was too slow). With pitch speed all the way to the left in '09 it was darn near perfect for me. If anything I would have liked it a touch slower.Comment
