Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
Quick question...ok take for instance Brian McCann of the Braves. Right now his player potential I believe is a D. I simmed a full season and I believe between seasons he went down 6 overall points. Brian is 26 now so that means at that rate by age 30 he will be a flat out average catcher. Who is to say by age 30 he won't be average? Players peak at different times of their career depending on many factors. Why should he get an A potential just because he was decent the last couple years?
Same goes for David Wright and Jose Reyes. Who knows when these guys will peak and then fall off the face of the Earth. I just don't know if this potential thing is as big a deal as some people are making it out to be. I kind of like some variety thrown into my franchise which would be current guys falling off and new talent coming up. Just a thought.Seattle Pilots GM (2011 - ) Record: 152 - 195

I wouldn't worry too much.
While they are asking for opinions....I'm sure ultimately...they(SCEA) will use their heads in changing these. They realize the original bug caused havac and mayhem...and will want this update to be as good and fair as possible.

This in no way would've been a deal breaker for me...the game is just that good. It's in my system as we speak, and god willing, next year at this same time MLB '11 will be as well.
I just applaud the fact that the guys over there at Sony are fixing these things so quickly and once again, listening to the community...the people who ultimately are paying their paychecks.
With this discussion about the potential rating, for me its more a thing that I'd like to know more about how each letter grade works than going through the game to find players who should be a B rather than a C. At 33, I come from a generation that played games like Atari baseball which had 3 fielders only on the field and moved all at the same time like they were triplets joined at birth. Or nightmare games that followed like MLB baseball for NES, some of the Bases Loaded games, the Triple Play series with their homerun sound effects off the bat that sounded like a bad thunderstorm in Kansas in mid July. I spent 40-50 bucks on all that crap and I'm sure I could go on. The Show is finally my reward for paying all that money over the last 20+ years on lousy baseball games. So a few potential ratings being a little off is not keeping me away from this work of art.Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
First of all, thanks to the folks at SCEA for recognizing this issue and putting a fix on right away. That being said, I can't help but wish that this particular issue would be fixed immediately.
For me, (and I'm sure many like me) this issue makes Franchise, and to a lesser extent, RTTS, unplayable. I don't want to start either of those modes knowing that players like David Wright, Hanley, etc will be worthless within 2-3 years. It screws up trade logic, and I can't help but think it has a lot to do with the waiver issues.
Now, maybe there is a lot that goes into this that it will take some time to fix, and if that is the case, I understand. However, as someone who works at a software company, I can't imagine that fixing this takes much more than adjusting some values in a table, something that should only take hours, not days.
For those of us who have waited for weeks in anticipation, for those who tell everyone we know that doesn't have a PS3 "the show alone is worth buying a system for", and for those of us who sing your praises...Is there any way this can be fixed before the weekend so we can get to cracking on our Franchises?
Again, I understand if there are technical limitations preventing this, but I fail to see how that could be the case.
thanks again for all you doComment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
Don't want to clutter this thread..but wondering if anyone knows how the potential grade of a player changes during a franchise. Is it based on player performance? random? Just wondering if anyone has info on that. Thanks.Comment

If it's the same as last year, training during the offseason causes you to progress. Training during the regular season would simply limit the amount of regression you have.Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
I'm sure SCEA has their own scale, but based on current and projected future overall ratings and roles, I consider the following scale for potential:
Position Players:
A - All-Star to Future HOF'er.
B - Great bench players to solid regulars, of course some B players can be All-Stars.
C - Average regulars/One-Tool Players and bench players.
D - Bench players barely able to make the major league roster/Most minor leaguers non-prospects
F - Minor leaguers non-prospects
Pitchers:
A - Aces to Cy Young Award Winners and Dominant relievers.
B - Solid middle of the rotation starters and great relievers.
C - Back of the rotation starters/Long relievers and average to decent middle relievers.
D - Fringe starting pitchers/average relievers minor league non-prospects.
F - Terrible relievers/minor leaguer non-prospects
I also assume that the the potential is a player's peak overall and there is wide range for each letter grade.Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
This was the exact question I posted earlier. It seems like people are almost interpreting the potential rating as the overall rating. Not trying to question the poster's above request for A-Gone's potential rating to be increased to A, but he will be 28 this year and has a 3 year average of about .280/35/105. Now at 28 with those type of numbers, should that warrant an increase to an A potential? Like I mentioned before, the actual definition of the Potential Rating I'm still a little unclear of. I guess when I think of an A potential rating, I'm thinking more like a player such as '06 Tulo who was a Top 10 overall pick, was great in the minors while he was there, got his cup of coffee that year with the Rocks, but obviously wasn't up long enough at the end of the season to accumulate much stats...but everyone knows he is going to be a player. I would think in this situation, he would deserve an A potential rating for the '07 game.
Adrian's overall is an A and a D potential will drastically affect him in a couple of seasons in franchise mode. Obviously younger players who had just entered the league recently (players like Troy Tulowitzki, Neftali Feliz, and Buster Posey), it suits them more to have a potential that is way different than they're current overall.
That's just my take.Comment

Re: MLB '10: The Show - Player Potential Fix Coming in Next Roster Update
Yes, I understand that is their intention. My post was asking (begging is probably more accurate) if it can be available before then.
I understand if it actually takes a long time to do, but I can't see why it wouldn't take more than one developer's time for a couple of hours to update one field in a table (again, don't know for sure if that is the process).
I don't really mind if there was a big issue that we could work around for a week or edit ourselves, but this is something there is no work around or manual fix for and it makes Franchise unplayable, IMO, and I'd like to play it this weekend while I have some time.
Again, the team has been great to this point, so I don't want to sound like I am busting their chops, but it would be awesome if they could make it happen.Comment
