    Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

Trade deadline came and went for my franchise. I figured that all the trades were completed for the season. I guess I was wrong. Some things of note with the new waiver system added this year. You can put any player you want on trade waivers, but will have to pull them back if they are claimed by another team, thus unable to trade them. I had both Coco Crisp (Braves) and Daric Barton (Rays) claimed and had to pull them back. Everyone else cleared waivers for me. I also tried to claim Ben Sheets back from the Rays, but they pulled him back as well. Maybe that is why the Rays tried to claim Barton. A little payback. No other team claimed any player that was on waivers. So a work around for big name trades after July 31st is to just make a claim on every big name player that you don't want to see traded. They will be pulled back and not eligible to be traded. So here are the trades that happened once players cleared waivers:

8-2 Phillies trade SP Trevor May and SP Mike Stutes to the Rockies for RP Justin Speier and 1B Jason Giambi

8-2 White Sox trade SP David Holmberg, CF Jared Mitchell and SP John Ely to the Giants for 1B Aubrey Huff and 2B Freddy Sanchez

8-2 Yankees trade SP Manny Banuelos to the Angles for CP Brian Fuentes

8-4 Astros trade SP Wandy Rodriguez to the Dodgers for SP Danny Danielson, SS Dee Gordon and CP Javy Guerra

8-5 Phillies trade SP Joe Savery, SP Matt Way and CF Anthony Gose to the Cardinals for 3B Felipe Lopez

8-5 Mets trade RP Kelvim Escobar to the Padres for 3B Matt Dominguez

I am a little worried that there are this many trades after the deadline. I know trades happen in real life, but not usually this many. And it is only the 5th so far.

In my franchise, the Angels traded SP Scott Kazmir: Contract: 1/2 over 9 mil. (Age 26, OVR B, POT C) to the Giants for CP Gino Espinelli: Contract 1/3 over 1 mil. (Age 20, OVR D, POT C)...Seems kinda strange to trade a good SP for a CL that isn't even in the Majors yet.

heres somthing i find ironic. During the month of July not one trade has been offered. Every month up till now i have had an offer for some team at least every other day. Now at the AS break, not 1 in July.

5 days until the deadline and I'm looking to make some.

My SP depth is stacked but I need some offense. On the other hand the Dodgers and Phillies, both playoff bound teams, are in need of starting pitching. I'm not bothering the Phillies because they have nothing worth going after that will look realistic. Here is something I came up with for the Dodgers.

          Dodgers trade:
          Lastings Milledge, RF
          Dee Gordon, SS

          Blue Jays trade:
          Brian Tallet, SP
          Brett Cecil, SP
ST. LOUIS RAMS FRANCHISE (MADDEN 2010)

LiverpoolFC Atlanta Falcons Atlanta Hawks Atlanta Braves Kobe Bryant

            More post deadline trades.

8-6 Orioles trade Kevin Millwood to the Twins for RP Matt Bashore, SS Miguel Sano, and SP Tyler Robertson

8-7 Mets trade 2B Alex Cora to the Dodgers for RP Kenley Jansen, SP Nathan Eovaldi, and SP Chris Withrow

8-7 Orioles trade RP Mark Hendrickson, 3B Miguel Tejada, and SS Cesar Izturis to the Pirates for SP Jeff Locke and SP Quinton Miller (I guess I can understand the salary dump here by the O's, but to the Pirates?)

8-8 Pirates trade RP Javier Lopez and CP Octavio Dotel to the Dodgers for SP Brett Wallach and CF Xavier Paul

8-9 Pirates trade LF Ryan Church and SP Zach Duke to the Yankees for SP Bryan Mitchell (What are the Pirates thinking here? They should have been able to get much more. Perhaps a salary dump, but why to the friggin yankees?)

As you can see, there are about the same amount of trades after July 31st as there were the whole season in my franchise. I like the idea of the waiver system, but it appears to still need some work.

              I saw this trade.

Cardinals send Albert Pujols to the Marlins for their #1 prospect OF Mike Stanton, #2 prospect 1B Logan Morrison, and #4 prospect 3B Matt Dominguez.

Now this to me falls on the line of realistic, yet unrealistic.
Realistic because, the Marlins gave up 3 of their top 4 prospects for pretty much a guaranteed future HOF. Realistic that they gave up that many top prospect, IMO, is nice. And this is unrealistic, because; I just don't see Albert Pujols being traded, and of course the Marlins not having a big payroll.

              What do you guys think?
              NFL: Green Bay Packers
              NCAA: Wisconsin Badgers
              NBA: Milwaukee Bucks
              MLB: Chicago Cubs

Yeah, that's one of those trades that is the reason a lot of people think the trade system needs improvement. Logically speaking, it is a good trade because the Marlins get the biggest possible upgrade at first and the Cards get some of the top prospects in the game. However, it would never, ever happen because, IF Pujols were to get traded, and I've seen stranger things happen in this game, it wouldn't be to Florida - that's just not how that franchise is really run.

I agree and disagree. For one, we can't assume franchise will be run exactly like they would be in real life since you can assume every team has a new GM. And another, both of the Marlin world series titles came from doing just this sort of thing, although not a player of Pujols' caliber. If the named player weren't Pujols, then perhaps this trade wouldn't be so far fetched. Either way, if St. Louis had decided that they couldn't afford to re-sign Pujols, then getting three top prospects is much better than 2 draft picks that could fall anywhere from 16th to the 15th of the second round. The trades I am starting to see as crazy are happening after the deadline. The Pirates are doing an obvious salary dump, but two-three starters for one prospect seems reverse order of what a team would be looking for. Then again it is the Pirates so who knows.

I am in May 20th and one trade has happened:

Twins trade: Aaron Hicks to Nationals

Nationals trade: Adam Dunn & Jason Marquis to Twins

I can kind of see this

The young hot prospect in the Twins system for instant Bat Adam Dunn who has 9 bombs & Marquis who wasn't working out in Washington

Aaron Hicks was traded at least twice in my franchise. I am starting to wonder if there is something with the contract, the attributes, the position or some combination there of that causes the same players to be traded in just about everyone's franchise. David Price and AJ Burnett are 2 examples. If we can isolate what it is, perhaps we can find a way to correct it. I can't wait to finish my season and start another one to see if perhaps the trades and free agency contacts made in the off season will balance the game back to where it should be. I hope Burnett isn't one of those guys that gets traded every year, but if he does than it could just be him. Maybe CB can answer this a little better.

Alright I need a catcher and I can't pitch with Max Szcherzer, here are my two trade options, the other team will accept either of them. I am the Tigers. (Szcherzer and Schlereth both have A potential)

                        Tigers get Jake Fox
                        Athletics get Max Szcherzer

                        OR

                        Tigers get Jesus Montero
Yankees get Max Szcherzer and Daniel Schlereth

I was thinking 2nd one but I already have a catcher of the future with Alex Avila (A pot) but Szcherzer seems like a lot to give up for Fox.

In year 2 of my Padres franchise, my catchers were sucking it up and my team is already 9 games out of first so here is the trade i pulled off using the OS rosters.

Indians (1 game in first) Get

                          1B Adrian Gonzalez
                          3B Craig Stansberry
                          SS Jesus Lopez

                          Padres (ME) get

                          LF Michael Brantley
                          C Carlos Santana
                          SP Nick Hagadone

they accepted it just Adrian but due to roster limits I had to throw in 2 others because I would be over. I'm about to go into firesale mode and deal others. With the trade Kyle Blanks will go back to playing 1B.

I would say go with the deal that I bolded, but Jesus might not be a catcher for the rest of his career though.

Do not trade Scherzer for Fox. Fox was a mediocre catcher at best last year. That's why he got moved to 1B at oakland. His offense wasn't horrible, but his defense was shady at best.

Now, if you were to unload Bonderman or Willis to get Fox, that'd be a far better deal.

BTW: I'm a Tiger's fan and I always play them in my franchise's. For some reason it's always Porcello I can never pitch with. He's always horrible for me and he always has massive losing seasons when I sim his starts.

Oakland didn't move Fox to first. He is playing mostly at the DH these days, but he has not played a single game for Oakland at 1st. He is also not a good catcher, being the A's 4th string catcher these days. Either way, I agree that you should not trade for him. He has moderate power against righties but otherwise is pretty useless. I sent him down to triple A where is tearing it up, but he only batted .105 for me in the first month.
