It seems to me that there is some problem with this year's trade logic in regards to Bryce Harper. I am not sure what the deal here is, but people are able to give up garbage for that kid.
By the way, why would you want Jeter to shift to DH? If he doesn't play SS, he is pretty much a worthless player. Not that he is good at SS, but by taking up a traditional power spot, he is actually hurting your team more than if he were riding the pine. I would just move him there as a backup if you don't want him at SS anymore.
In my franchise, there are a couple of players that spent their entire season in FA. We are talking about players like Zack Grienke and Matt LaPorta. These guys are not getting offers from other teams, and I don't want them to sit another year rotting in FA. So I am thinking of signing a few of them to $2 - $5 mill one year contracts to get them back in the majors. I don't really have a place for LaPorta, so he might get traded right away. You always have a place for Grienke on your staff right? I figure I can at least get a draft pick for him next season if he sticks around that long. I figure it is in line with the A's MO of picking up players that no one else is really looking at anymore.
I am also taking a long hard look at Chase Utley. He will be a free agent at the end of the season. If I get him, I block my 2B prospect, but prospects may never pan out, while Utley has been a perennial all star. I guess it depends on the price tag and the amount of years he wants. Tulowitzki might also be available, but I am not sure if he would be willing to shift over to 2nd or if his power will translate as well in Oakland.
