Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition

    Double post...sorry.

Am I the only one who has run into the problem of knowing there is something that I need to do with my team but can't figure out what? I mean, I struggle at various times in various aspects and can't pinpoint what I want to do.

I don't wanna gut my farm system and "miss' the target if that makes sense. Ahhh.....decisions..decisions.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I completely get what you're saying. I'll be sitting here looking at my team's stats and think, "I need a left-handed, middle of the order bat". As I'm scouring the league and playing a few games, I realize from when I made the statement, the middle of my order is blowing up.

For example, I was looking for a good outfielder to hit in my two hole from the left side. Five games after saying that to myself, my current two-hole guy, Rick Ankiel, batted .470 with 3 HRs, 10 RBIs, and 2 SBs over 6 games.

So believe me, I get what you're saying.

Indeed. I have recently found myself in a situation where I have too much depth in my outfield, so I am having a hard time finding playing time for everyone. On the one hand, I feel like trading away some talent, but for what? And what if someone gets hurt? Won't I then be kicking myself wishing I had more depth? On the other hand, I am having guys that have performed really well in the past, not putting up anywhere close to expected numbers. What do you guys do with players that are young and talented, that have performed well for a few years, but now are struggling and you have other talent outperforming your expectations?

Also, I have Zack Grienke, that I picked up after not playing an entire year, on a one year $5mil contract. His era is fluctuating from high 5's to low 7's. Now I could trade him and a reliever for Pujols, but how do you trade a player that just came off pretend tommy john surgery and is severely under performing for the best player in baseball? If I try to send him down through waivers, he will certainly be picked up, which I don't want. So what do I do? Put him in the pen and have to disrupt what has become a very stellar pen? Oh the decisions.

I figured I should mention this here. You can get any trade approved or denied with 30 team control. Just put Trades to Manual with the relevant teams, propose a trade, go to the other team's page, and say approve or deny. It'll work even with zero trade interest. Use it if trades look inequitable. As to the person asking about sending a player down thru waivers, put waivers on manual for all 30 teams and he'll get through.

Ankiel cannot hit lefties and Desmond is just not getting it done. I need a true lead-off hitter with lead-off speed. At the all star break, I'm eight games back in the NL East and seven games back in the wildcard race. Not quite out of it yet.

            Nationals give-up:
AJ Cole (RHP, Baseball America #4 prospect in Nats organization)
            J.D. Martin (RHP)
            Roger Bernadina (OF)

            Nationals get:
            BJ Upton (OF)
            James Shields (SP)

I think its fair for a couple of reasons. I gave up one of the top young pitchers in the minor leagues along with a starter and a decent outfielder with big league experience. In return, I took on the contract year of BJ Upton and took an "older" pitcher off the Rays hands. Not to mention, the Rays are well out of contention right now (16 games back).

Let me know what y'all think.
Funny, this trade may happen in real life. Upton for a top prospect! I like it!

Not quite sure if FA signings are relevant to this thread, but I signed SS Bobby Crosby to do some benchwork while I now have Adam Kennedy at second and Jack Wilson at short. I put Brendan Ryan on waivers since I was only getting a buck-eighty outta him and seven ribbies through a month and a half.

Back to trades, any ideas on where I can ship Milton Bradley and/or Jack Cust to for a solid DH man? (if I do trade Bradley, I would just have LF switching between Saunders and Langerhans)
              Kemp for NL MVP
              Montero for AL ROY

How far into the season are you? I can't imagine a more perfect DH than Jack Cust. Unless they severely dropped his power this year, he should hit way above his real life self. Just keep him out of the field forever. Signed Crosby huh? Will you not be happy until you have an entire team of A's rejects, lol. Sorry but I just couldn't help myself.

I might wait a little further into the season, see if his numbers go up. So far hes just been a big blob of 'Cust'-ard () when I bat with him, but his sim numbers are pretty good (.247 with 6 HRs and 18 RBI) but I don't trust the sim numbers with Olivo leading the AL in homers (10)!

I wanted Crosby as a bench-man and could possibly be dealt in a trade in the future when Ichiro retires.

I'm not sure what you'd realistically have to give up to acquire him, but Daniel Bard out of Boston is a tremendous set-up man to have. He just overpowers guys at the plate constantly, and if you cultivate him properly, he will be a great closer in a couple years.

If you feel like screwing the Braves, Kimbrel and Venters are relatively easy to get.

I'm doing an experiment involving trades. I'm going to write down everybody who go on the Trade Block and who gets traded for 3-5 years and see what happens because in my franchise, Mike Trout was traded to two different teams in two different years

How come no matter who I propose to trade for or trade away, even if I'm trading Tulo for their worst player, it shows them with zero interest in that trade?

Is something wrong with my game or can you not trade too early into the season?
