Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition
Hey guys. I have a question. Has to do with a trade so hope you can help. I'm the ASTROS in my 2nd year. I was looking to get a center fielder to play out there. I went to the JAYS to look at CODY and they where willing to trade him for a RP I had. I diddnt pull the trigger due to the fact idt they will even trade him. Any tips.
so ur saying u wouldnt do the trade cuz it wasnt realisttic
good man i dont do cpu ripoffs either
and btw love the nameComment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition
I try to be as realistic as possible while playing. My team is super young and if I where the JAYS no way I would trade COLBY let alone for Alberto Arias#50.
Looks to be like there trying to het rid of the talent. They are Willing to even part was with Bautista for this guy.
Why does the CPU do this ?This city needs a HERO not a guy in a costume......

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition
I think it's ok to trade for untouchable players as long as you give a great return.
I traded Trout, Ackley, and Kipnis (highest potential i've seen in the game) for Strasburg and Espinosa(B) and felt it was more than fair.
The Nationals were like 20 games behind too.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition
I'm for all even trades. But for STARS to behind don't sound right. Like stras is the furture for the NATS. No way they move him unless he proves not to be the man. Just a thought but ill take that trade for my team. This city needs a HERO not a guy in a costume......

ur wayyy too quick to start makin moves....even more so when u have a winning record...but imo, u shudda gave it at least a month or so...anyways onto ur trades....u def got the better end of all your deals as IRL, none of them woulda went down...The most realistic one u made was the Phil Hughes deal and even that u'd have to include a mid-level prospect cause Shields is that good.....Steelers | Seminoles | A's | Rockets | Avalanche | Wildcats, Hoosiers | LiverpoolComment

I think the key rule in a trade is to ask yourself would I ok this deal if i where on the other end. ???
Any thoughts on trade rules to follow ?This city needs a HERO not a guy in a costume......

You took the words right out of my mouth. But never the less the RAYS will never pull the trigger on the Phil deal due to the fact idt they will like to be reminded of shields worth every year while being behind the standings. IRL the RAYS told the YANKS "hell no" but listen to deals from every other team.

that's the biggest rule...plus how each player's salaries would affect my budgetSteelers | Seminoles | A's | Rockets | Avalanche | Wildcats, Hoosiers | LiverpoolComment

Just because I want to see someone tear down my game (posted originally in the Franchise Progress thread) :
After having a mid-season firesale with my Orioles (who were 17 games out of the wild card at the time), I finished the year 79-83. Still nowhere near the playoffs, but an extremely good start having a successful franchise for years to come.
When I say firesale, it was huge. It started when Colorado offered me a trade for Brian Roberts. He wasn't even on my block, but the return was too much to pass up. I received 2B Jose Lopez (who was decent in his own right), LHP Tyler Matzek, and RHP Greg Reynolds. Both pitchers will be either integral parts of the rotation, or an important chip to bring a real bat in when Baltimore is finally ready to contend.
I proceeded to put as many guys as I thought would bring back any type of talent on the trade block. The following deals were made:
LAA gets: RP Koji Uehara, SP Ryan Berry, SP Parker Bridwell
Orioles get: SP Ervin Santana, 2B Jean Segura
Tough trade for me to pull off, and it took almost 3 weeks of negotiations back and forth. They originally offered Santana and C Hank Conger for SS Manny Machado, Uehara, and Berry. But I honestly had no interest in Conger as I am very happy with Wieters behind the dish. Segura solidified a position of need for me in the future, and I was able to pry him away without giving up the prize of my organization, Machado.
SF gets: CP Kevin Gregg
Orioles get: CF Jarrett Parker, CF Gary Brown, 2B Charlie Culberson
Great return for me, and San Fransicso got a closer that had 34 saves just after the All Star Break. Brian Wilson had a season ending injury for them, and they had waived Santiago Casilla earlier in the year (I picked him up on a whim). Parker is obviously the jewel of this deal, but both Brown and Culberson could help down the road.
LAD gets: OF Luke Scott
Orioles get: OF Jerry Sands, SP Zach Sands
Again, taking advantage of a team with an injury and a player having a great first half. At the time of the trade, Scott was hitting .327 and had 18 HRs. He immediately stepped in and helped LA win the wild card. He finished the year hitting .313 and had (wow) 44 HRs. They went on the lose to the New York Mets (more on them in one second) in the NLDS.
Mets get: RP Mike Gonzalez
Orioles get: OF Cesar Puello, 2B Reese Havens
The Mets, the DAY of the deadline, hit me with this deal. I had aleady pulled off the Segura deal with the Angels, but I knew I wasn't keeping Gonzo in 2012, so I wanted a possible return for him. Puello is a couple years away, but Havens could see some action soon.
Houston gets: 1B Derek Lee
Orioles get: C Clint Sammons
Not really sure where Houston was coming from, as this was an August waiver deal. They were in the thick of things, but not realistically thinking of making the playoffs. Sammons is not much return, but if anything were to happen to Tatum, he is my next in line for backup catcher at the Major League level.
I couldn't deal Guerrero, even though some teams were interested. I also had Guthrie on the block, and had some deals set up for him, but none of them would have gotten a return good enough to warrant not starting 2012 with my ace.
So, after the wheeling and dealing, here are my 2012 Orioles after just breaking camp (You may want to get The Google ready...it's a young team):
CF Adam Jones (Still don't have a true leadoff hitter since losing Roberts)
RF Nick Markakis
C Matt Wieters
1B Mark Reynolds
SS Manny Machado
LF Jerry Sands
3B Josh Bell
DH Jake Fox
2B Reese Havens
Util Robert Andino
C Craig Tatum
2B/SS Jean Segura
1B Charles Ono (Drafted in 2011 - He has 60-70 Contact/Power vs. Righties, 75-80 Contact/Power vs Lefties. He also has an F potential, and is 18 years old)
RHP Jeremy Guthrie
LHP Brian Matusz
RHP Ervin Santana
LHP Zach Britton
RHP Jake Arrieta
LR Chris Tillman
MR Santiago Casilla
MR Mark Hendrickson
MR Jeremy Accardo
MR Jim Johnson
SU Jensen Lewis (Offseason signing from Cleveland)
CP Dan Cortes (Offseason signing from Seattle)
Machado is ready. I had a hard time deciding whether to put the money out for Hardy to come back, but when I looked into their ratings, Machado was only slightly behind Hardy. Sands is up a lot earlier than I thought, but he had a great spring and forced my hand to keep Reimold in AAA.
The Jensen Lewis and Dan Cortes signings were nail biters. Seattle really wanted to keep Cortes, and kept upping their offer. Every time I put an offer out to Lewis, it seemed like he declined me. I overpaid for both, but I had the budget to spend and I needed someone to help Jim Johnson out in a hollowed out pen.
My AAA rotation is something to behold:
Dylan Bundy
Tyler Matzek
Rick VandenHurk
Jed Bradley (Was not signed by the Brewers. Won a bidding war that lasted 2 weeks of the offseason for him. I am embarrassed to say he is making 3.5 million a year to pitch at AAA right now).
Zach Lee
So now, we start the 2012 season at Seattle with their revamped lineup (including Aramis Ramirez at third, Carlos Beltran in RF, and Jason Castro at C).Comment
