I don't know how some of you MOM'ers do it, lol. You are different beasts, that's all I have to say. For me, I didn't pay $60 for a game to watch it play itself...Sure you get to make some decisions, but I need to actually play the game. If I wanted to watch baseball games, I would buy the MLB.tv package haha. I commend you guys for finding a different and rewarding way to play the game you love.

I'm a "every sixth day" guy so I can pitch with my entire rotation and allows my pitchers to regress (for better or worse) toward the mean without my input when I sim their starts. The only caveat is the last month of the season, I like to play with the expanded roster to see what I have down the pipeline. Also, if it's a close division race with two weeks left, I play every game.

Re: Unique ways to get deeper into dynasties?

I generally sim most games. I'll play a few games at the end of the season, if it comes down to having to win a series to clinch a playoff spot. Or I'll play the clinching game in the playoffs.

I like to be the GM.. Sign the players, make the trades, draft the prospects, then set my lineups/rotation at the beginning of the year and see how well I did in the offseason (or how well I didnt do).

I usually get 4-5+ years deep in my franchises.

i like to play every last game of a series. my favorite part of the game is getting to the playoffs and trade deadline. this year i might try like someone else said and focus playing only with 1 pitcher.

Thanks for the props, but I think I actually took this from the aub's strategy.

Last year I played the 1st game of every series and simmed the 2nd. If the series was tied at 1-1 heading into the rubber match, I'd play the last game of a 3 game series. If I had the opportunity to sweep or be swept, I'd sim.

I like the idea of playing every 6th day to keep the season moving along (27 games) and pitching with different starters.

I'm looking for something a little more reasonable this year so I can feel directly involved, but still get several years deep into my dynasty. I was thinking about playing every third game, but that still only gets me 3 years deep based on how many games I played last year. It's a new year and I need a new plan of attack...thoughts?
I use franchise mode and manage the games. I manage every game until my team is mathematically eliminated.

I am currently in September of 2013, playing MLB '11 and for the first time the Pirates are in contention for the playoffs.

I go through periods where I don't play the game at all and then start playing again.

You can try simulating all the unimportant games, and playing the important ones, (games against the divison rivals, games in the last part of the year that decide wether or not you make the playoffs), and then play the post season. I'm more of a sim the whole season and watch my team develope, and intervine when necessary, lol, I usually make it past the 2020 year mark, if not the 2030 mark.

Re: Unique ways to get deeper into dynasties?

I used to be a play every game guy. I played three season of my A's in 2010 until finally getting a world series win. Then I played three seasons with playing one game a series and realized how much I love doing it that way. Plus you get through more seasons this way and can actually use those prospects you scouted and drafted. It really changes the way you see your franchise. I will never go back.

I don't have any hard set rules to simming like a bunch of people do. I generally play one game a series chosen by the pitching matchup or sometimes whichever pitcher of mine is struggling. Often times I will skip a whole series and play a couple of games in a different series that looks fun, has a cool stadium, or is an interleague game. Really it is all about having fun with the game.

What if you just picked one Starting Pitcher, one Relief Pitcher, and one Batter to use for the entire season... and just sim the rest? This would allow you to accumulate full season stats on players controlled strictly by you. Is this even possible in the game?

Since there's no player lock feature, this cannot be done perfectly as in cases for relief pitchers/part-time players you never know when they get their playing time.

I agree though it would be a fun way to do franchise if there is a player lock feature.

I do the every 6 games thing. Come September, depending on the race, I may play more or less. I play all postseason games though.

27 games (plus post season) is still a lot to play. Compare it to playing a season in Madden or NCAA and you're almost 2 years in with those games.

For me I have to play every game, but I don't play all of it. I play the 1st inning of every game, then sim to the 7th where I play from if it's close, if it is somewhat close like 3 runs I'll sim to the 9th and try for the save, if its more than 3 I'll just sim to the end. I usually end up with 2-3 innings per game. =approximately 35 games over the course of a season.

I'm a little worried about this myself. I've always been able to retreat and do my gaming at my place during my free time. But my girl and I will probably be moving in together this spring or summer.

She doesn't realize what a dork I am about my sports games. Granted, she plays some RPG computer game (to me it looks like that Skyrim game I've seen commercials for lately, but she says it's some free-to-play knockoff of those popular games), so it'd take some serious hypocrisy on her part to judge me too much.

Still, I kind of dread that moment when I have to look up and see what kind of look she's got on her face when she realizes I play my sports franchise/dynasty modes with a notebook (or text file or spreadsheet) there for me to document and chronicle all my moves and games and draft picks.

She doesn't realize the extent of my dorkiness yet. She'll find out soon enough, probably thanks to MLB 12.

I play all my division games ONLY. Then, depending where I'm at around August/September in the wild card and division race, I'll play all of my remaining games. If I'm eliminated from any race at that point, I might play spoiler if I have any dislike for one team that has a chance to make it.

So, definetly a handful of games, but its not 162 games. It has worked for me especially my busy schedule and the stats at the end even out. Hopefully this works for those.who try.

To bring it back into baseball terms, Legionnaire it looks like your girlfriend may have benefited from a high BABIP, maybe this season she'll regress toward the mean and you can designate her for assignment. Maybe then you can find another one and sign to a low-risk, high-reward minor league incentive-laden contract.
