Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

I'm loving all the new OSD's this year in franchise!
    In 3 innings I've seen...TEAMS with the most doubles(top 10)
League leaders in wins(Bumgarner has 15 and was tied with a couple of other guys)...and league leaders in slugging pct.

Also nice to see them pan the camera to the on deck batter in a crucial situation. Just kind of reminds you to keep your wits about you for not only this batter but what's to come.

Just got finished playing the game at home after the countless times at Best Buy. Simply I love it. I play on All-Star pitching and defense, veteran with the timed hitting. Sliders are good out of the box.

Played with my Braves did some customizations to some of players. Loving the more variety of bttng gloves and shoes. I like how SCEA still allows you add your songs for walk up,chants and etc.

The Show 12 is not perfect. There is room for improvement and that is personally what I like to see. The changes justifies me making the purchase once again.

The camera pan from the outfield to the pitcher's mound is really sweet.

I saw a nice OSD that mentioned Jeter led MLB with a .361 average in daytime games last year. That's a really high average, and was a cool stat since I was playing an afternoon game.

I'm loving the new ball physics, makes a world of difference

Also, through 4 innings against Dickey and the mets, 40 knucks, and only 4 fastballs, all when he was behind in the count looking for a strike

Reading a ton of these posts it seems like you all have low scoring 2-1 , 1-0 games.. Please tell me the computer and your own guys bats come alive and runs are actually scored or this would just get boring to me.

Love this game. The visuals and the sounds this year are much improved from the previous games, and I thought the presentations in general are really nice.

So far I've really only played RTTS and a few Exhibitions as I'm waiting for OSFM before I start my franchise. (Or at least the first roster update with Darvish and Cespedes).

I've had games of 10-0, 6-2, 5-4, and 2-1. Played some other games, but those are the ones I remember.

Game is totally broken. I just stole second base with.....Brian Matusz. I thought it was funny, playing agianst the Miami Marlins Anabal Sanchez was pitching.

Loving the gameplay but I am already getting tired of the cut scenes in between pitches. I'm seeing a closeup of the pitcher 3-4 times an at bat. It's getting old fast, and worst of all, SCEA took out all the other presentation options so there is no way around it unless I want to use "Fast Play". I understand it's "True Broadcast" but I wish they had left the Real Time Presentation option in from years past so we could avoid the shots in between pitches. I'm also not liking the black screen and cutting off of audio in between innings.

Wow, I'm surprised by all the love in here for this years installment. I'm just not feeling it thus far. I'm 5 games in and I find the results very unrealistic. Games are too low scoring. My highest scoring game so far was REDS 4 CUBS 2. Most games are 2-0, 2-1, 3-1. Tons of hits, but poor baserunning keeps scores too low for my taste. But, I have not messed w/ sliders much yet so maybe it will get better w/ adjustments. I sure hope so. I've seen a few so/so reviews out there so far, I was hoping they were wrong. But I dunno....

I've played only one game so far, but here are some lingering thoughts...

                            - Still too many balls hit the pitcher. The first and last outs of the game were deflections off the pitcher. A sour first impression and a frustrating way to get cheated out of a 9th inning rally.

                            - The new ball physics are amazing. There's nothing I can say that others haven't.

                            - CPU pitchers stick to their strengths, forcing you to hit their best stuff. This makes it easier and harder as a hitter. It's easier because you can key in on two pitches. However, those two pitches look identical often-times. That aspect of the real life game is amazing to experience in a video game. Gives me chills.

                            - Fielders don't run everything down! The ball physics play a factor here as do the player ratings.

                            - Default hitting view is the way to go! It's still a little tough to read the low pitch, but not impossible.

                            - Umps suck! I was getting squeezed all game and got robbed on some backwards K's against me.

                            - Pulse pitching is amazing because of the variance, but the pitch misses over the heart of the plate a little too often. I may need to drop down the difficulty below All-Star. I feel like a guy like Adam Wainwright shouldn't have such huge pitch location circles. The size of the needs to tighten up quite a lot.

                            - The Angels can H-I-T! Four runs in the top of the 1st.

                            - Oppo-field HR's feel earned. I hit one using the power swing with Matt Holliday. It was a dead-center fastball that I was late on.

                            - Hitting a bomb to the pull field is even sweeter.

                            - The slicing liners are incredible. Pujols had a liner that landed just inside the line but tailed away and hit in front of the field box seats...preventing it from going into the corner. I played it perfectly, otherwise it could have been trouble had I gone straight for the corner. I held him to a single.

                            - We need animations for short throws. I saw a pitcher throw a rocket overhand from 2 feet away to the 1st baseman. Even worse, I saw a pitcher overhand a ball to the catcher from 5 feet away...and he threw high. There needs to be some kind of underhand throw there. It allowed a run to score on a dribbler back to the pitcher.

                            - The true broadcast presentation is exactly that. Very solid.

                            - As for fielding cameras (when batting and fielding) there is nothing like the "High" view. You can see the whole field and the size of it is incredible. I "high"-ly recommend it. Pun intended.

                            - Broadcast view for pitching is still where it's at.

                            - Albert tipped his helmet/cap to the fans at Busch as he entered the box for his first at-bat. Nice touch.

                            - That 2011 World Champion flag looks very nice on the top of the jumbo screen at Busch.

                            - All that...from one exhibition game. I'm in awe. Very nice SCEA.

Agree 100%! I threw a guy out at 1st on accident from right field on a routine hit to right. There needs to be different speeds on throws from the infield though as well as the outfield. To many rocket throws from everywhere and everyone. Id like to see some loft and arch on throws.
