its been stated a million times, but ball physics are legit.

stand up triples are a possibility now when those balls die with a slow burn out in death valley.

also, watching lower rated outfielders misplay balls off the wall, towards the lines and in the gaps and completely botch plays [Hi Mr. Duda!] is a thing of beauty.

    A FREE AGENT IMPRESSION
Good to see Ichiro flat out refuse to sign with a team he didnt want to go to. I tried everything to get him to sign with the Mets.
His top two offers were from SD and Boston, i think 13.90 for 3 years. both same offers.
I offered 4 times going as high as 15.25 for 3.
He gave me the brush off.

    Jeter signed with Oakland.

yes i know the game doesnt KNOw who he is, hes just a number [number 2]. Maybe with a franchise reboot SCEA goes with Player Roles ala Madden/

about to settle in and WATCH a game and try to get some snapshots of OSDS.
Also will do some Franchise sim tests in regards to Trading.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

Just wanted to get a few thoughts/impressions off my chest.

First of all, I appreciate the opening video recapping the end of the 2011 season. I was working at the station that night and we went insane trying to keep up with games as they developed. Was nice to revisit game 162 of last season to start the game.

I played one full game and a handful of innings from a few others all as my Cleveland Indians. First game was against Detroit in Cleveland and I appreciate and love the updates to The Jake. Thank you, SCEA.
Having not adjusted any Sliders out of the box and playing everything on All-Star I thought the game played very well. Sure, Verlander threw a 3 hit shutout against me in a 5-0 losing effort, but the few hits I did manage to get felt SOLID. That's the best description I can think of when talking about hitting in MLB 12 The Show. Solid. Sure, I struck out 17 times (I hate curveballs...) and suddenly forgot how to bat with Pure Analog, but when I did make contact it just felt...right. I actually switched the hitting to Timing because I felt I had too much going on that was distracting me on screen and worrying about my stride/timing with analog, and once I did that I made better contact and felt that the hitting was even more rewarding then. I especially appreciate that the controller rumbles when you hit the ball, adding to the effect that you actually making contact of some sort and that the bat and ball actually carry some weight. Never felt anything like that in a videogame, let alone a baseball videogame.

Pulse Pitching is something rather awesome. I'm split between using that or sticking with Pure Analog pitching. I felt, in 11, that you could (or at least I could) master that pitching system and have very accurate pitches (paint the corners, pull off backdoor curves and sliders). With Pulse Pitching you're actually forced (or pursuaded maybe) to slow your roll and make good decisions. I managed to strike out 6 with Ubaldo Jimenez while playing against Detroit (even got Prince looking) with and I have to say that those strikeouts felt *earned*.

Even the commentary I felt flowed nicely and compliments the True Broadcast Presentation. Sure, it's no 2k12 (and I'm not comparing, just using as an example), but with how The Show's commentators pacing and cadence tend to be lends itself to TBP rather nicely. Or maybe should I say that the True Broadcast Presentation lends itself to the commentating...? Either way, I'm intrigued to hear what new lines of dialogue come up (heard some great conversations about the Tribe already in the exhabition games I played).

Oh, and I'd just like to say that I just about fell out when I was browsing through the Create a Player section and saw that MY LAST NAME is in the game! I scared the cat out of his sleep when I saw it and yelled out out of shock and awe, haha. So, thank you, SCEA for that little nugget of joy. That right there means that I must keep this game forever.

So with all that said, I am blown away with what they accomplished this year with the game from the brief time I played before work- and that's just from playing around in exhabition games. Can't wait to create myself in-game and start my Franchise.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

I went out and bought a PS3 yesterday just so I could play The Show. I've never played The Show before, or even touched a PS3 before.

        Here are my impressions.

        GREATEST . SPORTS . GAME . EVER .

I have to remind myself that I'm playing a video game, and not watching an actual game on TV. That's how awesome the graphics are to me coming from the 360 sports games.

This game has lived up to the years of hype that I have been hearing about.

          Impressions:

Another great installment of the series. Hitting is incredible, the ball goes where it should after being struck. I even played a replay several times on a FOUL ball because it looked so realistic!
Pulse pitching is much more interesting than i thought it would be. I'm a little erratic (walked 5 with Kershaw) but this may be my mode this year.
Analog hitting is too difficult and I'll stick with timing for now.
          Did I mention ball physics?
Some areas I would improve next year are:
Outfields are either too small, outfielders are too fast or they play too shallow. Not sure what it is but this has always bugged me.
Commentary is the same old. Turned it off after 3 innings.

Overall another great installment, can't wait to play it again!

1st game with 12, and the best game I've every played.

Started a Miami season while waiting for the OS rosters to drop.

Opening day against St. Louis and went 5 1/2 innings before I finally was able to score making it a 2-0 game. The top of the 8th started and Cishek takes the mound and suddenly the cards bats come out. I leave the inning down 3-2 feeling a little down but was able to get a double then drive him home with a single right past the pitcher.
3-3 as we went into the bottom of the 12th.

Reyes steps to the plate and hits a single, he then steals 2nd.
I use Coghlan to bunt Reyes over to 3rd and the pitcher drops the ball and Coghlan is safe over at 1st. I feel the pressure mounting as Ramirez comes to the plate, ready to wait for my pitch. My eyes open wide as I see the fastball running right down the middle, I drill the ball and it screams right between 3rd and SS as Reyes burns for home.

            4-3 12 innings, opening day

            The show 12 is Amazing

I went ahead and started my franchise, had a great game. Won 4-3.

As much criticism as the commentary has received, I think folks are going to be pleasantly surprised at what they hear during their franchises.

I was amazed when they went to the Top of the 4th in the opening game and before the inning started they took time to give their World Series predictions. I can't wait to see what else they have come up with.

Got probably 15+ hours in so far and im so so on this years game.there are way too many pop outs.i dont know if its me but i pop out EVERY time.i use zone hitting and it just feels ''off'' i dont know how to put it.played rtts for awhile and didnt notice anything new really.same ol.kept hitting the same pitch thee same way.inside 4fb hit to 2nd.even though im perfect.just frustrated with this game i overhyped myself for it.feilding is great though.pulse pitching is a joke.i mean how they thought that was gonna be liked i odnt know.justin smoak looks exactly the same as last year.not anything like himself.
no hulzten, paxton, walker, iwakuma, and casper wells has way too much power.
the new pci is ugly can i change that?

The opening video is awesome! Tried pulse pitching for a few innings i need more practice before i continue to use that. A great little thing during the game the first basemen fielded a ball and threw it low to the pitcher covering first base and he misjuged the first base and the runner was safe! Physics had so much to the game.

one small complaint, playing on all-star all-star, is that when i hit a perfect pitch, just outside of the corner of the zone with say a slider of curveball. the AI NEVER swings.

im okay if they spot somehting away from the plate or too high or low, but thos pitches that travel through the zone and onle escape it AT the plate. shoudl be the perfect pitches. they should be the pitches you aim for to try and strike someone out.

seem to be getting no reward when i hit those at the moment.

other than that i have NO complaints. using timing only right now as my pitch recognition and reaction time is pretty bad right now. but otherwise im loving the game.

yeah i wish there was a way to turn that off, or at least make it smaller. Also, please bring back the ability to see all the pitches in the At bat by pressing L3, why was it removed? Now L3 does nothing!

The hitting just makes no since to me. With it on pure analog I can get perfect rating on swing and stride but yet get a weak in the swing. According to the menus swing and stride are what affect that. At least with the button swing I can see what I done wrong. Analog plus zone may work better but I never have been a big fan of zone hitting. Gonna try it tonight though.

The new base running in RTTS is horrendous. You'll be running from second to third and your suppose to push up on the left stick. Then all of the sudden the camera flips 180 to follow the ball and to go back to 2nd is now up in the stick and to go to 3rd is down. Classic is always L1 to advance and R1 to go back.

I've tried a few more games on pulse pitching and it just feels like a gimmick to me. With meter I can at least see why I missed the location. With pulse the pulse could be as small as it goes and it's still a mile off location. Idk kinda hard to explain. Meter has always felt more fluid to me.

I've played about 5 games vs ai and about 10 RTTS games. The game is still good but glad I traded in games for it instead of spending $60. It's still a good game. The presentation is amazing but it's always amazing. Lol

I played my first couple games yesterday and must say im def impressed. The first game i won 11-5 with the redsox beating the twins in spring training. The new ball physics are awesome seeing a liner hit off 1st base and rocket over my player was something i dont recall seeing before. I tried the new pulse pitching but it was giving me a bit of a headache so i was forced to turn it off. overall i feel like this years game plays smoother with less canned animations in the field. 9.5/10 for me
