Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

I knew this game would be awesome when the intro video played. That was a great way to get you excited as hell for the game.

I like the rest of the game as well, haven't tried online yet as I need to practice a bit more. Diamond Dynasty sounds great.

I actually don't like pulse pitching that much, it's just so difficult to get used to. I loved analog last year and as always, SCEA kept it and improved it a little.

The new presentation is also much better although the commentary could still use a little work.

Does anyone else feel like this game moves in hyperspeed now? I don't know if it's this true broadcast presentation that changed things or not but it just seems like the game is so fast, unlike in years past. I checked all of my settings and pitch delay is on slower and I am not on fast play. I just feel like I don't have any time to think. The beauty of baseball is that it's a slower paced game and there is so much strategy to it. That's what makes this game feel like real baseball. I don't know if the pitch delay setting is broken but every single pitcher in the game uses the same amount of time between pitches, where in years past pitchers were different. Some would quick pitch (Buerhle) and others would take a much longer time, exactly how they are in real life. I love the game and everything but so far I am extremely unimpressed with the presentation due to the extremely fast play between pitches. Is anyone else noticing this?

I just played one where the computer had 1. I don't think I've made any in about 4 games.

I've played two games so far. First game: 0 errors.

Second game: My shortstop and left field EACH dropped a pop fly! (both were on the move pretty good)

I just finished a game against the Marlins using the Mariners and we had 2 errors on the first 2 groundballs of the game. The King bobbled a little dribbler and couldn't make the throw in time. Next pitch hard ground ball hit to Ryan and he tries turning 2 but ends up tossing it into right field lol. I've seen my fair share of errors.

Besides Ichiro and Guti though, we really don't have a solid defense. Try using one of the teams that don't have such a solid defense.

Not true for me. I cranked the fielding error slider up to 7 and now back down to 6 because I saw the cpu outfielders drop 3 fly balls in 4 or 5 games! I've seen a couple booted balls. Not many throwing errors but I had that at 5 and went up to 6 now.

I do think All-Star default is way too HR happy from my early games. Granted I turn down control so the pitches don't land where you want but bad pitches are being crushed left and right. I think it can be fixed with slider tweaks but I don't remember the ball flying out this much on All-Star before. If anyone else is seeing this I would suggest dropping solid contact a lot.

I'll echo the complaints about the slider system from someone else. I wish the devs would take a page out of the other sports games. Nobody else uses a simple 10 point slider system. Use at least a 20 point system and make every slider a cpu vs. human slider. No more global sliders. I'd like to see fielding sliders separated for infield vs. outfield. I would like a cpu plate discipline slider which should be independent of the contact slider imo.

I did hit a HR and saw the beast glow at Miami! You can really tell the difference in control between a guy like Buerhle and a hack. I like this and there definitely is a big spread between good and bad pitchers. Porcello got roughed up really bad in one start but he's definitely someone that needs his #1 pitch adjusted to a 2 seamer/sinker instead of a 4 seamer. His bread and butter pitch is his sinker and getting ground balls. He doesn't throw a straight pitch very much.

The commentary isn't bad. I definitely notice more player specific commentary. While I'd still like some fresh voices in the booth it's not a problem for me. I would like it if they didn't comment on every close pitch or maybe make fun of me when I have a horrible swing lol. If there is one thing missing it's the organ music! I'm a sucker for organ music. I'd love to have a slider for that where I would crank it up and listen to it all game.

Still having a lot of fun. Day game lighting is the best. I chose night for my last game but won't do that again. The game just looks so much better in the full sun and shadows.

I'm in agreement with Rudy^^^ and others who have mentioned the slider system. I never messed around with sliders on the show because honestly I never was a slider guy before NBA 2k11 and the NCAA football series. A 10 point scale is limiting in my opinion, especially in regards to pitch speed. Pitch speed too me is the most important slider because it's a foundation for a user to play the game off of. Too high of a pitch speed and the game is no fun as some people's reactions, mine included aren't top notch. But too slow a pitch speed and it's not as challenging. A higher point scale could fix this, and provide a greater range of options for the user since we all have our individual preferences when it comes to pitch speed. Also I'd like it if they did away with difficulty affecting pitch speed and just tied pitch speed to a slider. Because CPU pitchers on All-star pitch really well and mirror their real-life counterparts as I was able to draw more walks on All-star than veteran because on veteran default the computer is around the plate more. Basically, I want to have my cake and eat it too, so I want the challenging nature of the computer pitcher on All-star but at a slower pitch speed, I want the option of 1.5 clicks, not just one click or two clicks for pitch speed. With a 20 point system, it would appeal to a greater range of preferences in terms of user pitch speed.

But that's my only negative impression I can come up with after two days of playing, so all in all, the game is great. I think if there were more selections for pitch speed, I wouldn't have as bad a case of slideritis I have now because I'm kind of switching around other slider inputs in order to workaround my issues with pitch speed.

after bringing in a reliever, throw warm ups.

Aftr some thought, and yes I'd like Soup to be replaced, the announcing isn't half bad.
Its growing on me. Whereas in the past it just grew like a fungus.

The only things wrong are the fact that they dont go 'around the horn' and discuss things as a threesome and sometimes there r overlays and no one chimes in [i am positive that will be fixed in stage 2 of the presentation reboot. this time was focused on getting the overlays in and working].

I am warming up after all these years to the lazy feel/vibe of the guys..
The pregame is the biggest culprit. Nobody outside of Matt says anything.

Disappointed there is no Career vs Pitcher overlay in franchise.

Finally, Is it me or does Campbell sound a bit more energetic in the new dialogue?

It's actually kind of devastating to me. I've been wanting this for 3 years now. Obviously it's not a make or break thing but I was fully expecting it to be lit up because that's what I was told, and that did not happen. Kinda sucks. Other than that this game is so real, it's unreal haha. They don't lie on the back of the box like some games.
i agree this needs to be fixed, could a patch possibly fix this? It needs to be lit up! heck the other game might have it lit and we dont!

Small sample size, had 2 games in a row, one with 3 errors, the other 2.

Love the game but a lot of hard shots in the game. Gotta play with sliders and see if I can dumb it down even more ( already have it on 2 for hard hits hman and cpu) Also, it just seems that the outfield depth is too short. With the hard shots , a ball to right and you could probably throw the runner out at 1st. The show always seemed to have very long depths in their outfields but fields feel tight. Might be me, I'm getting old!

The guy who said This game has worse commentary the madden lost all credibility, the shows commentary is good, better then most sports games.

                            Madden's is an abomination,

No matter how good commentary is ina game you ignore it after a few games it will always get repetitive, 2k is the same. Anyone bringing up commentary is grasping at straws.

Anyway anyone who knows baseball can easily see this is by far the best baseball and even best sports series on the market. It exudes quality.

I also agree with the one that mentioned balls up the box. They were perfect in previous years now not so much. I had Stasburg knocked out of the game in the 3rd inning and Matheus later in the same game. I'd like to see it reversed to the old code but maybe it has to do with the new ball physics, dunno
