is this a must buy or is the lack of hitting on both the user-cpu side a game breaker?

must buy. You can adjust hitting difficulty. Just finished .356 for the year at AA Cubs on All-Star only doing the hitting...had a blast.

Even though I was very bitter about not being able to hit Wednesday and Thursday, this game is definitely a must buy.

Am i the only one that has had trouble hitting for power this year? I am playing on timing hitting on all star and i can get plenty of hits. but in 3-4 games i played with the red sox (against HOU/tex/SEA) i have hit like 3 Home runs total. and i have had about 12 of my hits die on the edge of the warning track.

what lack of hitting ? you mean the imaginary issue people are posting about ?

i've played with zone hitting set to legend and the contact slider at 0 and got hits. i'm not lying either.

I finally had a break out game of 15 hits and 8 runs. I'm playing on veteran with Zone hitting and default pitch speed. For me the key is the batting view. If I use the default catcher view I can hit just fine, but if I use catcher cassic I'll struggle to get over 5 hits in one game.

What really bugs me about people that complain about not hitting or the game being too hard is that I think they just want results. They want to get a lot of hits and when they don't they just complain. But the reality is that in real life getting hits is hard as well. In real life it isn't uncommon for there to be games when the team(s) have less than 5 hits. Sometimes in Baseball you have to take the bad with the good and just grind it out.

Had much better results at the dish picking up changeups if I take the catcher offset view and lower it a little bit. I did well with catcher offset, as the slight angle makes it easier to time pitches, but I had a heck of a time with straight changeups. Now with it lowered, it's easier. Not too easy, but I'm not lightyears ahead of changeups now.

There is just a wonderful coat of polish on this years game. Everything looks, feels and sounds so smooth and refreshing.

The graphical presentation is so beautiful this season. Everything just pops off the screen.

I think the thing that I love the most is how hitting feels. The sound of the ball off the bat. The feel of the controller when you groove one vs topping a grounder or a weak off the handle hit. It just feels so damn good.

And my goodness. The ball spin when pitching from broadcast (and the grips) are just mind boggling. So real, so cool and so on point.

I will be playing this game till next years version. This is the only sports game that deserves an annual purchase.

Over the top curve balls like the one Lincecum throws are the death of me.

I either swing over it thinking its a change up in the middle of the plate or look at it drop right into the strike zone because it freezes me.

And it's important it comes from a pitcher throwing gas because the whole game I'm on edge trying to determine a pitch is a strike and get around 98 mph of joy.

Then they have to drop the hammer.

Lincecum is straight filthy in this game. I made the Phillies look foolish using him. I think I had 5 or 6 K's alone with his changeup.

Almost a week and dozens of games in and I'm still loving this game. I really love the plethora of options we have for how we want to play: I started off on zone hitting with pulse pitching, but then I struggled too much with zone so I went back to analog, and it feels like a completely new game. And if I want a "new" game, I can try analog pitching or meter or classic. That's pretty awesome.

I have to say, though, that I still think that pitcher confidence is too dominant. Or maybe that it moves too easily. I see two patterns that I'm not really a fan of:

                          1. Average pitcher has a great first inning, his confidence goes through the roof, and then he becomes an ace and paints corner and drops hammers until he tires. It's frustrating when this happens because it's really hard to knock the pitcher off his game when his pitchers are "full blue." It's not that I think that average pitchers SHOULDN'T become aces every now and then (that's baseball!), I just think it should take more than an inning or two of success to swing their confidence upwards.

                          2. Pitcher loses all confidence in a pitch or two, but has full confidence in another pitch. I'm not sure if this is a function of my style of hitting or whatever, but I'm often stuck with a pitcher who has NO confidence in his fastball and FULL confidence in his slider/curve. This leads to weird results where I see almost all offspeed pitches. I'll take a poundable fastball for a strike just so he can get a little confidence in the pitch and get back to pitching normally (that is, mixing his pitches).

This is the game I wanted 2 years ago. Can the Franchise be upgraded? Yes but look at all of the details and I cant say enough about the smoothness in this game. This hitchiness of last year is gone. Also the arm action now on the pitchers now takes it to another level. Whoever on CD that suggested it, I owe you a adult beverage ! Also hit variety is great because of the physics. Anybody that says its not has to practice because its there

                              playing on all star.

I think Im going to go revert to the tried and true pitching meter.

Analog is way too sensitive, and I dont really see the point of "pulse pitching", when i can achieve the same outcome, with the meter, faster.

I want to be in and out. I dont want to be sitting there, trying to time a circle shrink.

The greatest blessing of this game, is that they never remove options. There is a control layout for pretty much ever comfort level.

On the hitting side, I just really dig zone + analog.

It just feels right for me. It's like the LS is a my eye, and the RS is my bat...it feels really good.

Curves are killing me right now. I got no hit by Eric Bedard who then the CPU let start the 10 inning when I finally got to him.

Anyways, I am finally not chasing the change up but the curve is so tempting now that I am having a hell of a time laying off. I'm so early on most. Then when I finally have them timed the pitchers confidence is so high I can't do anything with them.

I have made some inroads though. In my last game I just decided I won't swing at any curves at all the first 5 innings. I got called out on a few but I took more balls (that's what she said) and it worked out better. Most curves I've seen are out of the strike zone.
