    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Just played in awesome game in my Nats franchise. After losing 2 of the last 3 in Boston and getting swept in Toronto we headed home to host the Yankees for a 3 game stand. The 5 losses in a row brought our record to 26-37, 12 games out of first. I was confident though with Strasburg ready to bounce back after giving up 7 earned in Boston. Boy was I right about him bouncing back, he got to work early striking out the side in the first. He went 8 strong scoreless innings. Nova pitched well for the Yanks too, giving up only 5 hits when he was in.

Fast forward to the top of the 10th and the Yankees scored first and added another run to go up 2-0. With Rivera ready to enter the game I assumed our 6th straight loss was coming. Wilson Ramos struck out on 3 pitches. Then Mark DeRosa PI ch hitting down 0-2 and bam the momentum changed when Rivera drilled him in the back. A single by Ian Desmond and Rivera hit another batter in Mike Zimmerman! So 2 outs and the bases are juiced for Mike Morse. In a 1-1 count Rivera puts the cutter down in the zone but it's dead middle of the plate..

    ..

    WALK OFF GRAND SLAM!

I was going crazy lol. Hopefully we can get on a roll and battle to .500 by the ASB

I'm glad I decided to continue it as well. I think after it happened, I was a little frustrated with the situation. But after I gave myself a couple of days, I honestly couldn't remember who went where in Free Agency so it wasn't a big deal.

Another quick update, I am screwed. I offered Polanco a last second contract in hopes that I'd have someone reasonable to play 3rd Base. Zobrist, Reynolds, and Raburn (another last second option) all signed elsewhere. Due to Utley's retirement, Galvis will slip in to second base.

Its worthy of note that I have one A Prospect in AA right now who plays short. He isn't even close to ready, but if I really push his development, maybe by the trade deadline he will suffice at SS and I can move over an older J-Roll. We'll see, I'll make sure to keep you guys updated. Lots of big Free Agents still out there.

Thanks! I am planning on doing updates every 10 games, with leaguewides on the 25's. My only issue right now is figuring out if I *have* to have a flash drive to upload my screenshots, as I'd prefer to post screenies of leaders and statistics rather than manually typing it in... will definitely lead to more frequent updates. I was trying to upload them to PhotoBucket last night, but the login page was having errors thru the PS3, so I'm not sure what I can use.

My other thought is to maybe use that A prospect at SS to get you a solid third baseman now and worry about replacing Rollins later, since he'll no doubt still produce above replacement level.. <shrug> Just a thought!

I just had the best pitching duel of my young franchise, and it got frozen after exiting the game... at home against Texas, Porcello scatters 6 hits over 9 shutout innings.. Danny Worth had been playing SS for me in a rest rotation, but I yanked him to pinch hit Ramon Santiago. Walk off. Only had 3 hits and beat the Rangers, 1-0 as a huge momentum shifter for my young franchise (and by far my most exciting Show moment so far...) and lost it to a freeze.

Nothing like your franchise problems, but I feel some of your pain now for sure.

Most of the Free Agents are the same (I went through and did my best to manipulate the CPU's signings to get it like this), and right now my biggest worry is resigning Pence. If I sign Pence, I probably won't go after Morse. If I don't sign Pence, I'll go after Morse.

        Update:
        • Phillies sign Morse to 4/43.19 deal.
        • Pence signs with Angels, 4/48.85
        • Boston looks to lead on Brian Wilson.
        • Cardinals look to lead on Chris Young.
        • Boston, Phillies, Rays, among those looking to sign Zobrist.
        • Beltran looking for a 1/15.00 deal after very productive year (.298, 26 HR's, 88 RBIs).

        Update:
        • Reynolds resigns with Orioles.
        • Zobrist declines Phillies offer, signs with Texas Rangers (3/14.37).
        • Red Sox sign Brian Wilson who returned from TJ surgery to have an excellent 2013 (2.19 ERA, 44/48 Saves)
        • Dodgers reportedly offering Kershaw 7/175.00 Million. Wowza.
Huge update here, so here it goes....
        • I offered Omar Infante a 2/4.50 contract. He declined and chose the Cardinals (2/4.4).
        • The Braves signed Chris Young to a huge 6/66.0 contract. Not looking forward to having him to pitch against for the next six years.
        • As expected, Galvis and Dom Brown have been called up. The future of the Phillies is going to have a lot of pressure to produce.
        • Right now, I've debated calling up Trevor May who posted a solid 3.56 ERA in four starts last year. Blanton will likely stay with the team, its just a matter of whether or not he will be the longman. Blanton has some trade value because of the 3.60 ERA he had last year.
        • Sebastion Valle (C), Julio Abreu (2B), Tyler Greene (SS), Cesar Hernandez (SS), Larry Greene (LF), L.J. Hoes (LF), Jesse Biddle (SP), Brody Colvin (SP), Thomas Whitmore (SP), and Phillippe Aumont (CP) are all B prospect or above, with Greene being the only A prospect.
        • Halladay, Lee, Hamels, and Worley still make up the best staff in baseball with the Yankees (Sabathia, Haren, Wainwright, Pineda, Santana) and Tigers (Verlander, Greinke, Fister, Garza) trailing right behind.
        • The best lineup goes to the Reds (Phillips, Votto, Stubbs, Bruce, Hamilton) with the Diamondbacks (Cano, Upton, Wright, Sizemore, Goldschmidt), and Red Sox (Ellsbury, Jones, Pedroia, Mauer, Gonzalez) right behind them.
        • Right now my starting lineup will look like Ruiz (C), Howard (1B), Galvis (2B), Rollins (SS), Polanco/Stewart (3B), Morse (LF), Mayberry Jr. (CF), Brown (RF).
        • If Stewart can continue last years level of production (.277, 19 HRs, 50 RBIs) I won't feel so bad about 3rd Base. But I can't expect that from a guy whose career BA is below .250.
        • Halladay is still my #1. I fully expect him to turn it around this year. IMO, I got a good deal for a guy whose career ERA is under 3.00. My only worry is that he continues the last two years of pitching (both years with over a 3.50 average).
        • Hamels was a bit of disappointment with a 3.30 ERA, and the lowest amount of K's in his last four seasons.
        • It will be sad to see Utley no longer with the Phillies, but it might be nice to have some stability at the position. Looking over my screens, it looks like Utley played less than 50% of my teams games over the last two years.
        • This is the year! The year I win my first MLB The Show World Series. Can't wait to update you guys as the season goes along! Spring Training up first...

Just wondering, Ben, as I don't remember how you're doing it, but are you playing one and then simming five? Or do you just pick what you want to play, or use some other type of system?

I'm kind of in a quandry myself right now. I'm about to start game 15 of the ten years, but I looked at the pitching stats after my last game (I was still using Pulse) for the season, and I've only issued 9 BB in 14 games. So, it is looking like I either have to switch to Classic or drop the Consistency (I currently have it at 4.)

Heroes and I had discussed that in another thread (the BB issue) so since I was already posting about yours, how do you combat it? I guess if you were simming 5 at a time it wouldn't matter as much -- but again, I don't remember.

          Thanks, Ben!

EDIT: And holy hole in a donut, man -- Tigers got Greinke AND Garza to go with Verlander and Fister? That's filthy, unfair, and quite probably illegal.

            Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Had an amazing game in my franchise the other night......I post these recaps and box scores of every game in the thread for my sliders so people can see the results my sliders are producing.

Check out this game though - it was one of those games that comes along every once in a great while that make this game so awesome

            TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

BOSTON RED SOX @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
GAME #40 of the season (Pitching Matchup - Daniel Bard vs. Joe Blanton)

The Red Sox begin an interleague series with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park as they send Daniel Bard to the hill against Joe Blanton. The Phillies had runners at the corners with two outs in the bottom of the 2nd for the pitcher Joe Blanton but Bard got him to ground out to Pedroia and the game was tied 0-0 after 2 innings. Blanton was very sharp early as he had not allowed a base runner through the first 3 innings on the mound. Daniel Bard struck out the side in the bottom of the 3rd to give him 6 K's through 3 innings and we would head to the 4th with no score 0-0. Jacoby Ellsbury led off the 4th inning with a single for the Red Sox 1st hit of the game and was picked off of 1st base as Blanton caught him napping with a good pickoff move. The Phillies opened the scoring in the bottom of the 4th as Chase Utley doubled and came in to score on an RBI single by Ty Wigginton to make it 1-0. Carlos Ruiz singled to and Wigginton went to 3rd to give the Phillies runners at the corners with 1 out. Pete Orr was up next and he delivered an RBI single for Philadelphia's 4th straight hit to make it 2-0. Blanton was up next and he bunted the runners over to 2nd & 3rd for Shane Victorino but Bard would rebound to strike him out and end the inning without any further damage as the Phillies took a 2-0 lead into the 5th inning. The Red Sox had a chance in the top of the 5th when Will Middlebrooks doubled but he wass thrown out at the plate trying to score on a Ryan Sweeney single to LF for the final out of the inning. Bard labored through the 5th inning but got out of trouble when Chase Utley flew out to the warning track in CF to end the inning and send the game to the 6th with Philly leading 2-0. Boston went to work in the top of the 6th when Marlon Byrd walked to leadoff the inning. Daniel Bard was up next and he failed to get the bunt down on the 1st two pitches then lined a single into CF when he was forced to swing with 2 strikes as Byrd scampered to 3rd base to setup runners at the corners with nobody out for Jacoby Ellsbury. The Red Sox got on the board as Ellsbury singled to RF to score Byrd and make it 2-1. Mike Aviles sac bunted to move the runners to 2nd & 3rd with one out for Pedroia and Blanton drilled Pedroia on the arm with a pitch to load the bases for Adrian Gonzalez. Pedroia had to leave the game with an injury as a result of being hit and Nick Punto came on to run for him. Gonzalez hit into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play as Blanton gets out of the jam with a 2-1 lead. Bard pitched around a single in the bottom of the 6th and struck out Blanton for his 8th K of the game to end the 6th and end his night as he was over 100 pitches thrown as we went to the 7th with the Phillies on top 2-1. Blanton pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 7th. Andrew Miller replaced Bard on the mound and he got into a trouble after a single and a walk with one out. Miller struck out John Mayberry for the 2nd out and got Utley to ground out to Punto at 2nd base for the final out of the 7th and we would go to the 8th with the Sox trailing 2-1. Kevin Youkilis pnch hit in the pitchers spot with one out in the top of the 8th and he lined a double into the gap and Boston would have the tying run in scoring position with one out. Charlie Manuel went to the pen as he brought in Antonio Bastardo to replace Blanton with Jacoby Ellsbury coming up. Bastardo struck out Ellsbury and Mike Aviles thought he tied the game but he was robbed as he lined a ball towards right center field and Shane Victorino made an outstanding diving catch to end the inning and preserve the 2-1 lead. Vicente Padilla came on to pitch the bottom of the 8th and should have had a K against Ty Wigginton as the homeplate ump missed a clear strike and Wigginto crushed the next pitch for a solo HR to LF to make it 3-1. Carlos Ruiz doubled and moved to 3rd base on a ground out by Orr. The Red Sox brought the infield in with Juan Pierre pinch hitting in the pitchers spot and got a grounball to Punto who threw home to nail Ruiz but he ran over Saltalamacchia and jarred the ball loose to make it 4-1 and Pierre moved up to 2nd base. Things went from bad to worse for Boston as Victorino tripled to make it 5-1 and he came in to score on a sac fly by Jimmy Rollins to make it 6-1. The Phillies went to their closer with a 5 run lead as former Red Sox Jonathan Papelbon came on to pitch the 9th. Papelbon issued a leadoff walk to Nick Punto and Adrian Gonzalez followed with a double and the Red Sox had a glimmer of hope. Will Middlebrooks was up next as the ump called strike 3 on a pitch way off the plate. Papelbon hit Jarrod Saltalamacchia with a pitch to load the bases for Ryan Sweeney. The Red Sox have David Ortiz on the bench but Bobby Valentine chose to let Sweeney hit and hold onto Ortiz for another batter and Sweeney rewarded his manager for sticking with him as he worked a full count and got a fastball right down the middle from Papelbon and launched a grand slam HR into the RF stands to make it a 1 run game at 6-5. Charlie Manuel made a ballsy move and removed Papelbon who was clearly struggling and went to Joe Slavery looking for the final two outs. Marlon Byrd came up and he singled up the middle to put the tying run on base and now Bobby Valentine called on David Ortiz to pinch hit in the pitchers spot. Bobby Valentine made a gutsy call as Marlon Byrd stole 2nd base and the Sox had the tying run in scoring postion. Ortiz lined Savery's next pitch into CF and Byrd raced around to score the tying run as the Red Sox have stormed back to tie the game 6-6. Bobby Valentine then used speedy pitcher Clay Buchholz as a pinch runner for Ortiz. David Herndon came in from the pen for the Phillies and Jacoby Ellsbury then laid down a perfect bunt and beat the throw to 1st base as Buchholz moved into scoring position. Mike Aviles was up next and Herndon got him to hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Scott Atchison came in to pitch the bottom of the 9th for Boston and recorded the 1st two outs before Ty Wigginton doubled and the Phillies had the winning run on 2nd base. Placido Polanco came in to pinch run for Wigginton as the potential winning run. Bobby Valentine decided to intentionall walk Carlos Ruiz to give his team the chance of a force out at 2nd base and take their chances against Pete Orr with Franklin Morales coming in from the pen for the lefty on lefty matchup. Morales struck out Orr looking with a 95 mph fastball on the outside corner to send the game to extra innings tied 6-6. Will Middlebrooks made a bid to take the lead in the top of the 10th as he crushed a ball deep to CF but Victorino caught the ball right at the wall against the 409 foot marker to end the inning. Morales retired the Phillies in order in the bottom of the 10th and we would go to the 11th inning tied 6-6. Chad Qualls would take over on the mound to begin the 11th for Philadelphia and gave up back to back singled to Saltalamacchia and Sweeney to begin the inning. Marlon Byrd was up next and he laid down the sac bunt but Qualls was unable to pick the ball up and the Red Sox had the bases loaded with nobody out. Cody Ross was called on to pinch hit in the pitchers spot and he choked away an opportunity as he struck out. Jacoby Ellsbury was up next with one out and he laid a bunt down the 1st base line and Saltalamacchia scored to give the Sox a 7-6 lead as the only play the Phillies had was at 1st base. Jose Contreras came on and struck out Mike Aviles to end the inning and we would go to the bottom of the 11th with Boston leading 7-6. Red Sox closer Alfredo Aceves entered the game looking to close it out and pickup the save. Aceves got Hunter Pence to ground out to Aviles at SS for the 1st out. John Mayberry grounded out to Punto at 2nd base and the Phillies were down to their final out. Chase Utley was the Phillies last hope and he gave the ball a ride but Marlon Byrd caught it at the warning track in LF for the final out as Aceves nails down the save and the Red Sox come back from 5 runs down in the 9th inning for a thrilling 7-6 victory in extra innings.......WHAT A GAME!!!

This was the most fun and rewarding game I have played on The Show in a long time. It was intense throughout the game as it was 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th before Philadelphia blew it open with a 4 run inning to take a 6-1 lead into the 9th. Jonathan Papelbon faced his former team for the 1st time ever and the Red Sox put together an epic 9th inning rally with Ryan Sweeney of all people mashing a grand slam. I made some very tough managing decisions that all seemed to work out and pulled off the extra innings victory

            * The Red Sox come back from 5 runs down in the 9th off their former closer Jonathan Papelbon for their biggest win of the season. Papelbon was not credited with a blown save as he was pulled from the game and was not responsible for the tying run.

            * Ryan Sweeney is hitting just .239 on the season and had only 1 HR on the season but he came through with a huge grand slam in the 9th inning for the key blow in the Red Sox comeback

            * Dustin Pedroia was hit by a pitch and had to leave the game due to injury. Pedroia will avoid a DL stint and will only be out for a few days with a bruised hand (Thank God)

            * The teams will play game two of the series tomorrow and it will feature a great pitching matchup as Jon Lester and Roy Halladay take the hill in a battle of aces. Both teams will be looking for a good performance from their aces after the bullpens were taxed in this game.

            * The Red Sox have reached the 40 game mark in the season and have a record of 23-17. I will be posting an update with Standings / Stats / League Leaders etc. tomorrow at some point

Just finished the month of May in my Yankees franchise and I am doing a lot better than the real life Yankees. The Yankees went 21-7 in the month of May but are still .5 gms behind the Red Sox. Just swept the Angels in Anaheim and I hope to continue this streak into June

Yeah, the Tigers have sunk a ton of money into their current team. The problem is, they have almost none left. Still, most of their guys are still young enough that it won't be an issue for a few years.

As to your question. I play on All-Star pulse, and have CPU contact at 4, but CPU solid hits at 7, and pitching consistency down at 4. One of two things could be going on. 1) With CPU Solid Hits at 7, I really have to nibble at the corners. I've noticed that the CPU has about a 60% contact rate when the ball isn't on the corner, or touching the outside of the plate. So I have to really try and hit my spots, or I get slammed. As you can imagine, this leads to walks. 2) I'm just not good at pulse pitching. This could be it, I'm not sure. But pitching has been much more of an issue than hitting for me. I have recorded stats of my played game (I played a total of 38 last year), so here are some averages (rough estimates, as I don't have a calculator)...

                BB/9: 4.5
ERA: 4.02 (team average was well below 4.00)
HR/9: 2.0 (I always get hit with at least one bomb a game. Don't know why)
                SO/9: Around 7.0

The lower CPU contact helps with SO's, and the higher Solid Hits seems to help with BB's. I'm not sure if this would help with your situation, but you could always give it a test run. Also, you could try turning down CPU contact, and also turning down Human Accuracy on pitches (thats what the game recommends in the slider menu).

                Update:
                • Just a couple quick notes before I do a bigger update tonight.
                • I'm 7-4, .5 games behind the Braves.
                • Ryan Howard broke his shin and is out 1-2 months. Not good, especially consider I reallly have no one to put in his place. My lineup was already weak.
                • One possible move I have toyed with is a surging Joe Blanton (3.60 ERA last year, no attribute regression to speak of) for an older Michael Young, who recently signed a deal with the Twins. Given the Twins need for SP (they have Valencia at 3B already), and my need for a corner infielder, it seems like the perfect trade.
                • Once Howard gets back, I'd simply move Young back over to 3rd.
                • My team ERA sits at 3.36.
                • Halladay has started off the year with a 4.67 ERA. Time to panic?

                    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Just got swept by the Nationals on the road in my DBacks franchise, leaving me a full game behind the Rockies and I'm starting to look at making some moves. Trevor Bauer is on a hot streak absolutely dominating down in AA, and I'm thinking it's time he joined the big leagues. Both Hudson and Saunders are struggling in my rotation, but I have faith in Hudson so I need to figure out how to get rid of Saunders. I also need to get rid of Lyle Overbay, as he's been flat out horrible. Due to Goldschmidt's time on the DL, Overbay has been my starter at first base, and he's been batting on the interstate all year. The trouble is, I like having a left handed option at 1B and I dont really have many replacements I could promote from within, so that might just buy him some time. Off to NY for a 3 game set with the Mets, praying for a win.

Lost to the Rox to open a three game set. 4-12 right now. Offense is the big problem. Only McCutchen and Jose Morales are hitting over .250. Lowest Era in the league but not enough run support.

Here's the game recap. Please comment if you like, don't like.... etc.

Playing my fantasy draft Angels team and in the 2nd game of the season Tommy Joseph came up huge. Down 3-4 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs he doubled into the gap then scored on a Peter Bourjos single, then in the bottom of the 11th he hit a 2-run walk-off homer to win it 6-4. I am quite excited to see what he does through the season.

*side note* Probably the most annoying game I've ever played in the show due to the fact that the Royals had Joe Smith, Brad Ziegler, and Pat Neshek all pitch during the game and I cannot read/hit side-arm pitchers to save my life.

About a month into my Pirates Franchise, and we are 5-17. Team BA of around .220 and a team ERA of around 4.00. Traded a few prospects for JP Arencibia and when that kid hits the ball, it goes far. He has 4 HRs so far, all with my team since I got him about 2 weeks ago in the game. He is only hitting .230 though, but thats to be expected with such low contact. McCutchen is only hitting .265 with 0 HRs and 4 RBIs. Hopefully he gets it going because I always feel "pressured" to et a hit with him when he comes to bat because he really needs to produce if we want to win regularly. McLouth is leading the team in average at .305, and Jp also has the most RBIs with 11. Burnett has a 5.50 ERA and Bedard fractured his arm. Our best pitcher to this point has been Karstens with around a 3.00 ERA. I have Gerrit Cole in AAA and he is tearing it up with a 2.25 ERA and is 2-1. Taillon is in AA and is 1-2 with a 3.65 ERA , but he did just toss a complete game, 1 hit, 10 strikeout shutout. Also, traded my top catching prospect behind JP to the Angels along with a pitching prospect for Garrett Richards on the Angels. He is 3-1 with a 2.10 ERA and has been outstanding. Our struggles in the MLB have been with the bats, as Tabata, Walker, Alvarez, and Jones are hitting either near .200 or below it. I still want to try and make a move for a big bat. Overall, the team has a lot of holes so far and I'm going to need to be patient if I want to develop this team into a contender.

I am already to June 11th in my season playing every game but 2. I am playing as the White Sox and I am about 18 games under .500. I traded Jake Peavy, AJ, Adam Dunn, Gavin Floyd, and a few older "prospects" for some young A and B potential prospects.
My team cannot hit. The highest average is about .260 from Viciedo. I score probably 1 to 4 runs every game. I am only playing on veteran for hitting and still can't hit worth anything. I have never done this bad ever in and MLB game, I am not sure what is going on. Is it just me or does everyone have this problem with below average teams on this game?
