Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread

Just started playing on my Vita again. Having hitting issues.

Originally, I though that pitches came in faster on the Vita versus my PS3. Though that may still be the case, I'm beginning to think it's a depth perception issue due to the small screen.

It's practically impossible for me to gauge break and see changes in how the ball comes out of the pitcher's hand unless it's a WILD one, for me on the Vita's 5 inch display. Compounded by the fact that depth-wise, the pitcher feels so far away on the Default hitting camera...and the ball looks so small!

Any suggestions? I'd like to keep my settings the same on both consoles if possible. The pitch speed doesn't feel too fast, I just can't react enough to determine break (because pitches don't seem to have distinctive movement coming out of the pitcher's release point like they do on a larger screen).

      * shrugs *

I just think this type of game is not meant to be played on a 5" screen at 30 FPS. I think the same way you do about it on the Vita.

I wanted to keep my sliders the same, too, but you have to make adjustments on the Vita.

I lowered pitch speed all the way down and also am using a 2-3-1 setup for the CPU pitching sliders. That will cause the CPU to throw more balls out of the zone and you'll be able to recognize those pitches the more games you play on the Vita.

Hitting-wise, I've found that if I hold the Vita higher up towards my eyes, I can gauge the pitches a little better. When I have it tilted down on my lap, everything looks like a strike.

Yeah, I've been in a funk, too. Hitting .220 with the Mets. I'm hitting a good amount of doubles, but only 1 HR through 5 games and obviously, not a lot of base hits.

I have Pitch Speed @ 2 on the PS3 and may need to zero it out to match the Vita. I've found my biggest issue is that I can't turn on fastballs, and by swinging late, even just a tad, more times than not I wind up grounding out or hitting a pop up.

I made the change to zero on the PS3 last night. I was facing Strausburg and his 99-mph. heater was still really hard to catch up with, but I did manage to get around on one FB with Niewenhueis (sic) and yanked one down the RF line for a HR.

Of course, he later dropped a fly ball and I'm losing 7-2 in the 5th.

Still, I think zero is where I'll stay.

I'm having a lot of success using analog plus zone hitting lately on All-Star. It feels natural. I still get fooled too often with curveballs.

Does anyone know how good the Vita version plays online?

Thanks, I'll try some of these changes.

So I had a decent inning and I noticed something when I was hitting...

MY FACE! Staring back at me!

So I finally get in a groove and I get distracted by my own reflection. LOL! What is with this console? It's like playing a game on a mirror.

You do realize that a Strasburg fastball is supposed to be difficult to catch up to right?

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread

Seems I have the opposite problem from most here.......My batting is virtually the same on the Vita as the PS3.
If anything I've seen the ball better and hit a bit better (maybe because the screen is so close) on the Vita, and it has seemed a bit slower.

My issue is usually with pitching.....I seem to struggle more with that on the Vita. I tend to miss my spots more (maybe I'm not timing the meter as well?) which leads to fluctuating pitch confidence.....and balls that do hit bats just seem to have a much higher babip avg. That or with the smaller screen/field of play there are some balls I just don't get to that I feel I may have a chance to make an out with on the PS3.
Not knowing how to switch players probably doesn't help matters.....it makes some grounders, and tappers/bunts and some other hits nearly impossible to field lol......I'll have to go back to the in-game manual tonight and figure out if there's a control I'm missing.

Overall I do still think it plays relatively well......If I'm away it will be a suitable and great way to take my Franchise with me, but when I'm home I think I'm going to make sure I'm playing the majority of my Franchise on the PS3.

                          No, I don't realize that

Trust me, I was late on most of his fastballs, and he got quite a few past me. Lowering the speed to zero allows me, if I'm seeing the ball well, to turn on it and pull it. I wasn't able to do that with Pitch Speed at 2 or 3.

Don't know your TV setup but I'm hitting a lot better when connecting to my 24" computer monitor than my 60" LG plasma. My Vita is like between the 2.

So my pitch speed is 4 on my monitor, 0 on my 60" and 2 on Vita.

I did the test many times with Rockband3 and the 24" rougly 5ms lag and TV around 60ms. Enough to be late on a fastball. I guess no lag on my Vita but small screen make it a bit more difficult

Yes, but not holding my breath. I'm enjoying the game as it is right now.
