Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

I'm still split on whether or not I want the Yankees to trade me. In my second season, I've become the team's best RF mainly because they decided to not retain Nick Swisher, however I'm a D in overall so I'm hoping that I don't get called up yet.

However, the Yankees made a pretty big trade in my first season to acquire Jurickson Profar and Martin Perez, giving them four young starters in Perez, Manny Banuelos, Michael Pineda, and Dellin Betances, a replacement for Derek Jeter when he retires, and they still have Gary Sanchez and my player. The future looks pretty bright, but I'm not sure I want to play for a storied franchise (I was quite happy when Baltimore acquired my player when the White Sox couldn't decide what to do with me, although it was a straight swap for Nick Markakis).

Got traded to the Twins. Again. It's August and I'm 4-5 with a 2.44 ERA in my first season, still in AA with the New Britain Rock Cats.

I like pitching in the AL to start my career. That way I can pump up my pitching attributes without being concerned about hitting. I only have a few more starts in 2012 so we'll see where I end up by the end of the season. I'm currently ranked eighth in the Twins system.

Bored to tears with franchise mode this year I'm going to give this mode it's rightful shot. I'm hoping there is at least wonderful career stat tracking for the user player? Please tell me so. I think it'd be pretty cool to take every at bat for a single player over a 15-20 year career. Maybe even set some records.

I'm going to make a 1-dimensional power hitter. A real liability in the field.

Probably the longer to make the Bigs then... seems defense is very important

My power hitting shortstop just game off a monster season with Cinncinati, hitting .298 with 42 HR and 108 RBI and 26 SB. But finished 2nd in the MVP race to Justin Upton. Now I signed as a FA with my team (the mets) at age 29. I am 99 in power, fielding, durability and arm acc.

Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Just picked up MLB 12 two weeks ago and fired up a closer in RTTS. Drafted by the Royals (God help me), dominated AA with a fastball, slider and curve and made it to AAA by season's end. After a full year at AAA i was offered a one year deal as a setup man with the Royals.

The game just got a whole lot harder! Somehow after a decent spring training, I have a 0.00 ERA after 4 games, but I have given up 7 hits. Gotta love the double play ball.

The best part is, I enter the game to the Clash's 'Clampdown'. I have a feeling i'll be back in AAA soon though. Rose pretty fast and my skills are not quite MLB-ready I don't think.

Cf drafted by the Dodgers for some odd reason lol. Was lighting the AA pitchers up w a .349 avg 1 hr and 19 rbi. Moved up to AAA and had a monster first game going 4-5 w 3 doubles. 2 games later I get traded to Seattle and it has been a struggle since. At 1 point my AAA avg was .180 something. Lately I've gotten a few hits here or there so I'm hoping that I climb out of this slump soon. Currently sitting on a .226 avg

I have done pretty well with the fielding side of things and have swiped a few bases (though I need to pay better attention to not getting picked off at 1st). What I am having the hardest time with is hitting. I realize that the only way to get better is to continue to play and learn the nuances of the game. Now it could be that I just naturally suck at playing video games and that my old eyes and hand-eye coordination just are not suited for it, but I wonder if the way that I am creating the player also is factoring into the issue. I have generated a 6’4”, 230+ muscular slap-hitting speedy second baseman. I am wondering if the body shape/size is negatively impacting the type of hitter I am looking for. I want a speedy, single/double type player that may occasionally pull one of a very short fence. Is there a walkthrough like the "franchise" thread that might help me in setting this up - thoughts…?
I realize that many are busy here, so I will alter my request and ask if anyone can point me to a thread where I can learn how to best create and play RTTS game. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

I haven't played the game a ton. Got last year's version and just got this year's. Others can probably speak to how/if the body type affects performance, but one thing i found helped me early on was the batting stance. there are tons of stances, so find one that seems fluid to you. I switched mine up in '11 and definitely saw a difference in my hitting. Worth a try.

Mostly, aside from adjusting sliders and skill level, it just takes patience and time to improve your hitting. It makes it more satisfying once you do get the hang of it though.

I haven't payed real close attention to it, but I think body size is purely cosmetic...your speed and power it still going to be determined by where you set the sliders to start out and how you spend your points. Which might be a good thing to mention in the RTTS improvements thread, because a 6'4" 230 lb guy probably should have a cap on his speed.

This it really needs to be addressed. I made Mo Vaughn a couple years back and 3-4 years into the majors and he stole 70 something bases with his big *** lol!!

Re: MLB 12 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

So I've seen a quite a few people saying they have trouble getting picked off, I never get picked off towards first base while playing this game in my RTTS.

If you're stealing, ALWAYS take another step over on your lead. You do this by tapping the R1 button once. If you do two steps I've noticed the pitchers like to throw over a lot more and if you have decent speed and you're good at telling his pitching motion, The second step won't be needed.

Now after you've taken the one step, You can hold the R1 button down and he'll lean towards second base. Now if this is where some of you get caught by a guy with a quick pick-off move, Remember that after holding the R1 button down, You can also hold the left stick down so he'll automatically slide back into first on a pick-off move everytime unless you push up and run which in case will be your fault.

I always take a pitch to judge a guy's windup motion and to notice his starting point. But hold the R1 button and the left stick down after taking the step and once you think he's started his motion to the plate, Flick the left stick up and run..

I literally had about 70 steals in my first full MLB season and my speed wasn't even over 75 by the end of the season. I was even stealing 3rd base a few times by taking 2 steps over normal from second base and doing what I mentioned up top.

                            Hope this helps some.

have a Pitcher in the astros organization and I'm the 4th ranked pitcher in their whole team all the way down to AA and I'm still in AA. I have like a 1.44 era and like 120ish strikeouts in like 130ish innings pitched. I asked for a trade, but they said no. But you would think I would be brought up by now.

I think it also has to do with age..I have a 19year old 1B/3B behemoth who is batting .419 and 22 HRs, 10 BBs and 19Ks still in AA even though Im the second best 1B on the team and they are very thin at the position
