Video game realism =/= IRL realism... it's pretty impossible to be the latter...

Tell me, can Josh Hamilton's drinking affect his video game value?

Sorry, I thought this is what we were going for in this thread. I guess it's ok for people to trade for Derek Jeter then, if his value to the Yankees in real-life doesn't matter.

Tell me, why do you feel the need to be so condescending? Because I'm getting sick of this. Please stop.

I just got the feeling that we were going for the most realistic trades in this thread. Meaning we would include every factor when deciding what was a fair/real trade.
I thought that was why Felix was pretty much untouchable, why Mike Trout is untouchable. I thought it was because of IRL factors. If you view it as just video game realism, then they might as well be random players with attributes, contracts, and potentials.

Well, pretty much, yep. That's what they are- virtual representations of players with attributes, contracts, and realism. There is no off the field stuff, even if it makes it more convenient for getting better value.

Okie dokes, I can see shortly into the future of this debate, and it isn't pretty, and I have to go study, so I'm done with this for tonight. When I come back, if this thread is locked, someone here is gonna die...

So you would ok a trade to get Derek Jeter... even though IRL there is no way he is going anywhere? When readyornot posted, saying he wanted a value for CarGo.. you just put not happening. If were not factoring real life factors why couldn't that happen.

I'm just trying to understand what we are trying to do in this thread.

Ugh I can't help responding to these....

I could conceivably OK a trade, because he isn't untouchable IRL, but since he's a perfect fit to the Yanks, I doubt it.

I put "not happening" because he's traded too many prospects to be able to afford him.

Well I don't understand why you wouldn't want to try to factor in real-life factors. It would make the trades much more realistic. I really thought that's what we've been doing in this thread... but if you guys want to make trades that wouldn't happen in real-life just because you want that trade, then I will stay out of it.

It is a difficult proposition but to me the goal is always to take what we know of real life and then attempt to apply it to our individual franchises. Case in point: IRL Jake Peavy was not getting traded this year. In AC's franchise, the ChiSox were in last place so we had to make an educated guess as to what the ChiSox would do in that case. Knowing that they were in between rebuilding & staying competitive last off-season, they might work more on staying competitive but getting better next year. Plus, Peavy wasn't getting hurt IRL but in AC's franchise he did a couple of times. What happened in AC's franchise is completely different than what happened IRL.

That being said, AC, nobody is untouchable and if you decided that you wanted to give up d'Arnaud, Gose, and all of your A's for one player, it could theoretically happen. However, players like Alex Gordon and Tulo are not signed to those contracts if they have intentions of letting them go at fair value. You would have to overpay.

So, I don't know what the $ value was for wins when they extended Tulo nor do I know how many wins they expected from him, but I'm sure they felt that they were getting value from him (including intangibles like tickets sold due to his presence on the team, merchandise sales attributable to him, etc.). Maybe they expect to get a value of 5 wins from him per year. You are going to have to 'wow' them and offer a mix of players where one of them is highly likely to get 5 wins per year over the life of Tulo's contract plus another 5 wins worth beyond that.

In my eyes, AC, you are the GM of your Jays on your gamebox and not AA. If you want to give up the farm for that one player...you need at least one A potential 18 yo SS, plus an A prospect SP, plus 2 B's directly filling their needs...as a starting point. Where are you in your franchise now, how are the teams doing, and how many times has Tulo been hurt IN YOUR FRANCHISE.

OK, actually, here's a better way to resolve this than ignoring it.

Everyone as a whole who's here, let's decide: are we using REAL LIFE realism in this thread (to a certain extent), or are we using VIDEO GAME realism in this thread?

A significant amount, to be quite honest. Haven't kept track or anything, but he's missed time continually.

You know my thoughts, it's a bunch of what-ifs...example: what if the Giants were not contenders this year and Melky didn't get popped, would they be willing to trade him?
