We're getting into off the field stuff now? 'Trusting you?' Yeah, I'm stopping this... bye, folks, I'll just monitor this thread while I study.

It's a factor in a team trading a player. If you don't believe it, you need to look at all of the factors besides "he's fragile and getting paid a lot". There's much more to any trade than that.

        I don't know why I'm continuing, but...

Performance, salary, and durability are the key three factors when evaluating a player, no?

Those are the most important. But it would be ignorant to not include other factors as well.

What are other factors, specifically? Because let's face it, that on this generation of console, off the field stuff has no impact whatsoever.

You honestly don't think it is a factor in a trade if the player involved is the franchise player, team captain, and a fan favorite?

Fan favorite? Not so much...Curtis Granderson, Roy Halladay, and CC Sabathia are three fan favorite players that I can think of off the top of my head that were dealt.

EDIT: And is Tulo a captain? Last time I checked Jeter was the only official captain since Varitek retired.

                  In order...

Asdrubal Cabrera is Clevland's franchise player, so what?

Is this hockey, are there are captains?

Just to add to 35's examples, John McDonald was dealt last year and is universally beloved here. Fan Favorite = meaningless.

Well he's not a proclaimed captain like Varitek or Jeter, but that is his role on the team and it's going to be more of a factor when Todd Helton hangs up the cleats next year.

For those fan favorites you listed. I don't know the details of their situations, but were they in contract years?

As I recall it, the only one who was in a contract year was Sabathia.

AC would know about Halladay and I know Granderson wasn't in a contract year.

Look at the whole picture. Tulo is all of those things... John McDonald isn't a franchise player. Sure he could be a fan favorite, but he's not a perenial all-star and extremely important to a franchise's progress.

Regardless, I doubt that Tulo would get traded this season unless the Rockies were overwhelmed. However that doesn't take into account what happened in AC or whoever's franchise and what year it is: how the Rockies have played, how Tulo has played, what's happening with their payroll, did they draft a stud SS to replace him, etc, etc.

In all honesty, I think its CarGo that would get dealt. His home/road splits are awful, like he benefits from that park SO much.

On Sabathia, I think it would have been better for Cleveland in the long run to keep him and try to coax him into staying. That "prospect haul" that they got for him hasn't panned out very well.
