OS Arbitration Panel Project 2012

I'm playing my Cubs franchise kind of fast (already in late April, 2013), so I already have gone back and started a cubs-only franchise, with latest rosters, and am just leaving it in April 2012, so I can go back and refer to it for trades and such. The roster shifted so much over 2012 and then over the offseason, I didn't have a lot of the original guys any more, and so, in order to respond to trades in other people's franchises, I felt like I needed to go back and start over--but I'm going to keep playing the original one, going on down the road, seeing how the guys I did keep develop, thus knowing if it will be worth it long term to keep McNutt, Brett Jackson, etc., when will be a good time to get rid of Garza, will Castro stay at SS or move to 2B/3B when/if Baez is ready, those kinds of things. So for me, the answer is, I've already kind of done that, and could easily do it again with the draft pick rosters when they drop. I don't think it's an absolute necessity, and I know some of you guys are doing things like making all the trades in your franchises, but since most of us I would assume have some extra hard drive space, I don't see a problem having a spot for a franchise file that stays static, near the beginning of 2012, with the most current rosters, so that even as some of us start to go forward into the future, we can still help people from the very beginning. Just my thoughts, since you asked.

You're a Cubs representative? You open to trading Garza? I'm willing to give three or four B's.

Editors Note: When I first looked at the trade I had the opinion that I was just fleecing the Phillies but after looking at stats of all players involved as well looking at the disabled list and stats for the MLB Phillies it makes good sense to me. I may try to counter and not fleece them so as to make more sense but here is a look at the Disabled List for the Phillies.

Blake DeWitt would be the starter for the Phillies in the Majors at 3rd with Polanco and Thurston as the only viable Competition and both of them being out 2 weeks to 2 months. Robertson would be in competition for a bullpen spot in the Majors for the Phillies as they only have 1 Left Hander in the Majors and 2 in AAA. All of the Phillies players would be in the Minors for the Cubs.

This response is probably going to be completely out of character as I'm just evaluating the offer you recieved.

Before I begin evaluating the trade offer, I wanted to just kind of run down the Phillies depth chart and ask you what's going on in your franchise. Mike Fontenot could always shift over to 3rd for them if they are that desperate, and recently in real life they did just call up Hector Luna, who can also play some third. However what I just mentioned would probably not be done by the CPU for whatever reason, but it's a realistic way to solve the injuries problems they have. With the being said, I can see the Phillies giving away Domonic Brown at some point in time. He had huge hype around him coming into 2011 and many fans thought he could take over that RF spot everday, and then they wouldn't of had to give up so many players for Pence. Brown has actually been discussed to be a trade target for other teams, meaning the Phillies must be considering letting him go if they feel they can still get top dollar for him. He is only 24 though, and he does show signs of greatness, but I think he's really the only player they'd give up so far in that deal. Tyler Greene is only 19, and the Philadelphia organization is pretty high on him because they know it's only a matter of time before Rollins completely falls apart (he's already started to as it is). I don't think they'd give him up unless they really could get something to help them in return. Behind Trevor May, Brody Colvin may be the best pitching prospect the Phillies have, and even though they always seem to be able to resign Hamels in the offseasons on the show, they most likely won't be able to in real life considering the money he is going to want (just look at what Matt Cain got!). Therefore, I don't see Colvin being traded either unless they can really get someone back that can help them win immediately. Also, I don't see Colvin getting traded given the fact Trevor May is hurt. The organization would probably want to take it slow with May's recovery and if something were to go horribly wrong, Colvin would be one of their next best pitching prospects. Also, the bullpen in Philly has been a problem for a while now, and I don't see them trying to fix it unless they absolutely have to (and they always feel like they don't). Dewhitt may be a short term answer, but I don't think they would give up that much for a guy that would play a month or two, especially when they have Fontenot and Luna.

I really didn't get into what I would do with this trade, if I were to be running to organization, mainly because you said it was already offered to you and you just wanted some feedback. I hope I was able to help.

Just wanted you to know that I did a very similar trade in my own franchise to what we did in the project, in order to not have to use force trades... I got Yamiaco Navarro (sp) instead of Chase D'Arnaud, and sent I believe Argenis Diaz as Raburn was too much money for them.

The trade was a full blue bar, and was accepted the next day by the Pirates. The other factors were still the same (Walker and Kingham/Smyly and Castellanos) -- Navarro was the other "player to be named" that you offered me, correct?

I felt it was fair regardless, so I obviously made the trade since its been accepted, just wanted to make sure that would have flown with you.

Hunter Pence is a Triple Crown Candidate (While Early in the year) hitting .359 with 12 homers and 42 RBIs in 234 at bats.
Hector Luna is currently hitting .275 in AAA with 4 homers and 26 RBIs

As far as Greene, it looks as though the CPU is ready to give up on him with Cesar Hernandez playing well in triple A and Mitchell Walding playing so well in AA that they just promoted him to AAA to play over Greene.

So I guess I would then ask what you would do in your franchise. Shift Luna/Fontenot over to 3B and take it from there?

Baldwin III is in AA: .274 avg/7 HR/26 rbi/.416 slugging/33 SO and 22 BB on 226 AB/ 7 SB and 5 CS/ 2 errors

Nathan Eovaldi is in AAA: 5-6/3.24 ERA/86 IP/66 K/26 BB/1.36 WHIP/4 HR allowed

Chris Withrow is in AAA: 5-4/2.29 ERA/90.1 IP/82 K/31 BB/1.20 WHIP/7 HR allowed/ 1 error

Chris Reed is in Class-A therefore no stats

Since our last e-mail Carlos Lee's avg has risen to .310

I tried switching Fontenot and Luna to 3B and the CPU is still in love with the deal.

I'll likely be declining the deal as I personally have no need of any of the 3 players right now, I was more intrigued by the proposal and wondering if it was in fact a possible deal that may help my franchise down the road.

Yes, I am a cubs rep. I didn't get involved in the previous negotiations because, as far as I could tell, it was never a situation where you were actually initiating a trade; but if you want to send out an actual proposal now to the Cubs, I will certainly respond. When there are multiple reps for a certain team, I've been figuring that whoever jumps on it first is taking the lead; but that's not to stop any other negotiations, that might be one of the benefits of having multiple reps. No one is untouchable to me, in theory, so yes, I'd be willing to say the Cubs might trade Garza, and if you want him, I'll try to help you get him; but there is no way it's not going to cost you big time. He and Castro (discounting Soler, who just signed in real life, so I feel it's fair to start considering him a real Cub) are really the pieces the Cubs would be least likely to give up as they move forward, so don't be surprised if the opening round of negotiations includes the dreaded "I'll take your best player straight up for him," but that does not need to be where we end up. I've been eager to do some negotiating for the cubs--not many people want what we're selling!--and if Garza is who people want, then we can do some talking. Propose away!
