Re: OS Arbitration Panel Project 2012

Just a couple quick notes, to get us back on purpose.

The original idea was really to be a thread where the person NOT involved with the thread could come in and say "I'm playing as the Cubs, and I'm trying to trade for (this guy), what do you think is a fair deal?"

It just seemed like with adding the "trading block" idea, that we are trying to cover too much ground and this is becoming far too open-ended. I am not trying to single ANYONE out, I'm not a moderator and I'm definitely not the boss of this thread -- but we do have the amazing Trade Discussion thread, and this is supposed to be a specialized thread.

If you want to represent a team and you aren't, please let me know -- I may have missed you as the thread had really gotten popular and I did have to do real life this weekend. Sorry if things got a trifle off track.

For the record, the conversation in here has looked amazing and I'd like to thank our representatives for helping to maintain order and remain helpful to all Operation Sports users -- both about the site in general and the purpose of this thread. Thanks so much for everyone being so civil and trying to maintain the spirit of this project as intended!

(Now, I've got some Tigers work to do...!)

Hustlin and MSU, I'll add you both. I just put the post up so I'll re-edit real fast.

Reminder to all who want to represent, all we hope for is that you are franchising with your squads so that we have the most-aware representatives about the minor league systems, so people please don't be afraid to get involved... we only have a few teams left that need representatives!

EDIT: All additions made, we're current to here.

We understand it is still early May, but we have a high interest in your young 3B Will MiddleBrooks. We noticed Kevin Youkilis is tearing the cover off the ball batting .337 with 4 HRs and 19 RBIs already, and has been one of your most productive hitters. That being said, we also noticed you called up Will to the majors in the 1st week of the season. He has only gotten 8 ABs so far sitting behind Youkilis who is on fire, and has not had much of an oppurtunity. We as an organization feel as if we need to be looking towards the future rather than this year, and are currently sitting at 7-19, 10 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central. We also saw that your organization is currently 22-4 and has already traded a few prospects for some veterans at this early stage of the season. That being said, we figure your team's mentality is focused more on this year rather than the future right now, and we are ver willing to work out a deal with you for Will.
We are willing to offer you:

              Pirates Give:
RP Brian Tallet: 2-1 1.31 ERA 34 years old C Overall AAA
1B/LF/CF/RF Garrett Jones: .222 4 HRs 18 RBI 30 yrs old MLB C overall ( We also feel Garrett can be valuable to you as a corner OF Consider Cody Ross is ice cold batting only .250 with more K's than hits)
              3B Josh Harrison: .230 0 HR 9 RBI 24 yrs old D overall B potential AAA

We are willing to part ways with Pedro Alvarez if you would prefer to have him over Harrison. We feel we can give Will the immediate playing time he deserves.

              RE: Will Middlebrooks

I'm sorry, but do you think I was born yesterday? I am insulted by this offer you have proposed. Will Middlebrooks is our top prospect and is an MLB ready 3rd baseman who we view as our 3rd basemen for the next 10 years. Your offer does not appeal to our organization at all.

We would be willing to part with Kevin Youkilis, but we are not willing to part with Middlebrroks at this time.

I would be willing to work a deal to send Youkilis to Pittsburgh but would need to recieve more value than what your current offer presents to us.

Please get back to me with a more reasonable offer

I don't think the Trading Block idea is totally unworkable, but jknott's second post points out a flaw--if you put a guy on the trading block, you're not specifically addressing anyone in particular, so no one has any particular responsibility or need to respond. Sure, I can see the possibility of my Cubs trading for, not so much Bourn, but Jurrjens (real life aside, his numbers in the game aren't bad; he could be a good reclamation project; and I'm probably not gonna have to pay top dollar for him at this point), but unless you address a trade offer to a specific club, I guess we're all just going to look at it and basically say, "Well, I don't immediately see a need for that guy, so I guess I just won't do anything," whereas if you make a specific offer to the Cubs (in my instance) of Bourn and/or Jurrjens, then I would feel personally responsible to respond, even if the answer was no. I'm not even sure if the open-ended way I offered Dempster to the Tigers was the right way to do it--it might turn out to be easiest if the starting point is an actual offer, which can then be accepted, turned down, or negotiated from that starting point. I guess we'll see how it develops. I guess we'll see what the Tigers have to say on the matter...

We're still figuring out how this thing works; soon enough I think a set of procedures, if not straight rules, will come into focus.

                          Topic: Wandy Rodriguez

We are initializing conversations with your team because you are one of the teams that expressed interest when we placed Wandy Rodriguez on the trading block.

So far you guys have not had a great season. Currently you guys stand at 22-25. Lucky for you, everyone in your division has struggled, and as of May 27th you guys are only one game behind the first place KC Royals.

As you might imagine, your problem has not been the offense. Your pitching staff is currently one of the worst in the majors.
All these ranks are out of 30 MLB teams:
                          - 29th in ERA
                          - 19th in hits allowed
                          - 26th in runs allowed
                          - 28th in earned runs
                          - 22nd in Base on Balls
As you can see this is a big problem.
These are some of your pitcher's stats:
                          - Verlander: 4-5/4.48 ERA/64.1 IP
                          - Fister: 1-4/4.22 ERA/64.0 IP
                          - Scherzer (on trading block): 4-4/4.55 ERA/59.1 IP
                          - Porcello: 5-2/4.85 ERA/55.2 IP
                          - Smyly: 2-5/4.50 ERA/54.0 IP
                          - Benoit: 5.19 ERA
                          - Albaquerque: 6.35 ERA
                          - Schlereth: 9.22 ERA

Being that your only 1 game back we think that we can work out a deal that will benefit both sides. Unfortunately for our organization, we are currently in 4th place in our division, 8.5 games behind the first place Cardinals who seem like they'll be running away with division. This has led us to opt in moving our most valuable assets at the time and focusing on our future.

We believe Wandy could really help your team and be a strong point in your rotation.
Wandy's current statistics are: 3-3/3.53 ERA/71.1 IP. As you can see he is a true workhorse, innings eater who can really step up in big games. This year he has already beat pitchers like Kershaw and Darvish. Also an extra incentive is that he still has 2 years left in his contract so he wont only help you this year but he will be there for you next year too.

So our offer goes as follows:
                          ASTROS GIVE

                          - SP Wandy Rodriguez
                          - RP Bandon Lyon (3-2/3.10 ERA/20.1 IP)

                          TIGERS SEND

                          - SP Brenny Paulino (19 yo/5th best pitching prospect/B potential/ we like his physical make-up and think we can develop him)
                          - OF Daniel Fields (21 yo/ B potential/we love his athletic ability and believe he can help us in the near future)
                          - 3B Audy Ciriaco (24 yo/ C potential/ we think that he just needs an opportunity to prove himself which he hasn't been able to do in your organization b/c of your depth at the spot with Cabrera and Castellanos)

So this is our offer to you. A deal that in our opinion is very fair and fits your win now mentality and our build for the future mentality.

Hopefully we can hear back from you soon,

                          ~Astros Organization.
                          TO: Houston Astros Organization

RE: W. Rodriguez/B. Paulino headlining trade

I would believe this to be a fair deal... I am currently away from desk (ooc: PS3) - but as long as the salary hit wouldn't be too ridiculous I've actually been shopping Paulino myself.

My only other considerations would be the performances/levels of Adam Wilk, Jacob Turner, Oliver... with the way Smyly has performed early though, with the chance to add a solid arm like Wandy there, I think we'd have to consider this.

EDIT: Weren't you repping the Yankees? Don't mind me, my mind is kind of spaced from this weekend.

Actually, what I think is that he reps the Yankees, but he's PLAYING with the Astros. So, when he placed Wandy on the block, he got interest from HIS Tigers. He initially sent the offer through AS the Astros.

But yes, if I was sending through a deal to the Astros for negotiation, yes you can respond immediately. I was just replying to his negotiation from Page 18.
