Re: OS Arbitration Panel Project 2012

To: Detroit Tigers GM & Assistant GM
    From: Houston Astros Organization
    Topic: Wandy Rodriguez

As you might remember we had negotiations regarding Wandy about a month ago (game time), and we had a principle deal set in place but our organization decided to take a little more time to make sure we weren't gonna be contending this year. Well, as of of June 29 we are now 15 games behind the red hot Cards and we have decided that it will be appropriate to begin moving our valuable pieces.

Since we last talked you have now taken over first place in your division, although your record is still at an unimpressive 38-38. You have a 2.5 game lead over the Royals, 3.5 over the White Sox, and 4 over the Indians. The main problem in your team is pitching. You currently rank last in team ERA: Verlander is 4-9 with a 4.74 ERA in 100.2 IP; Fister is 4-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 102 IP; Scherzer is 7-5 with a 4.47 ERA in 94.2 IP; Porcello is 7-4 with a 4.97 ERA in 92.1 IP; Smyly is 3-6 with a 4.22 ERA in 89.2 IP. Also your bullpen has been very suspect (if you need their numbers ill get them for you).

Since the last time we talked, Wandy has just been great. his stats look like this:
    6-4 record/110.1 IP/2.94 ERA/70 Ks/13 BB/1.03 WHIP/.234 avg against.
He has recently had a couple of great starts, 2 weeks ago he shut down the best team in baseball, the Texas Rangers, through 8 innings and earned a win. His great performance has made him a hot commodity in this trading deadline and we have received a lot interest from various teams who are contending, but since we already had partaken in a deal previously, we feel it's right to begin trade talks with your team.

    This is our initial proposal:
    Tigers receive
SP Wandy Rodriguez (33 y/o) ($7M per year for 2 more years) (6-4 2.94 ERA)

    Astros receive
    SP Casey Crosby (B potential 23 y/o) (In AAA: 7-3/2.89 ERA/99.2 IP/69 Ks/1.24 WHIP/18 BB/.270 avg against)
    RP Al Albaquerque (B potential 25 y/o) (In the majors: 3-0/5.34 ERA/28.2 IP/31 Ks/15 BB/1.64 WHIP/.274 avg against)
    3B Audy Ciriaco (C potential 25 y/o) (In AAA: .231 avg/5 HR/22 rbi/11 SB)

We really believe that considering the season Wandy is having he is worth at least 2 Bs and a C. The deal I proposed would be centered around Casey Crosby who is pitching really good, and eventhough he is not your top pitching prospect, we believe he is a top talent. We really want a major league ready bullpen arm back, eventhough Albaquerque is struggling so far this season, we still like his talent and would love to have him. Ciriaco is more of a player we think could help us out of the bench but could still develop into a starter because of his great athleticism.

We would also be willing to throw in more players (like bullpen help), so tell us what you think.

    Sincerely,
    ~The Houston Astros.

UPDATE: Wandy's latest start was v the Padres and he put up a heck of a performance. He pitched 8 innings, allowed 1 run, 7 hits, 4 Ks, 0 BB, and earned his 7th victory (3rd straight), he even picked up 2 hits and a rbi. His ERA is now down to 2.81, he leads the league in IP, least BB allowed, and 3rd in WHIP.

We are currently falling farther and farther out of contention. We have our eye on Jeremy Hellickson we'd like to get but besides that we have a plethora of vets and players ready to contribute we'd be willing to part with.

      Pitchers include:
      Ryan Dempster
      Paul Maholm
      Randy Wells
      Carlos Marmol
      Shawn Camp
      Casey Coleman
      Scott Maine
Matt Garza (at the right price. 1 A and a higher C or atleast 2 B's one close to MLB ready and lower level C prospect)

      Position players available:
      Geovany Soto
      Alfonso Soriano
      David DeJesus
      Reed Johnson
      Jeff Baker
      Ian Stewart
      Darwin Barney

Few younger prospects/blocked players close to MLB ready who are blocked or we don't feel fit our future plans as of right now:
      LH RP Jeff Beliveau
      RH SP Alberto Cabrera
      OF Dave Sappelt
SS/3B Junior Lake (willing to package with vet to acquire higher level prospect)
      RP Esmailin Caridad
SP Jay Jackson (willing to package with vet to acquire higher level prospect)
      SP Dae-Eun Rhee
      SP/RP Rodrigo Lopez
      SP Chris Rusin
      IF Alfredo Amezaga
      IF Blake DeWitt
      2B Logan Watkins
      OF Jae Hoon-Ha

Any other vets not mentioned your team could be interested in acquiring will be considered but it would have to be an offer we feel improves our team in the long run. And it has to impact players as we consider them our main core we want to build around. Thanks.

      Re: Trade

We are interested in Matt Garza and Alfonso Soriano among others. The trades we have done so far are listed below:

Traded Jonathan Shoop and a low B for Madison Bumgarner and 2B Ryan Jones

Traded Brian Matusz and Chris Tillman for JP Arencibia and Kyle Drabek

Traded Jake Arrieta and Zach Britton for Dominic Brown and Pettibone

I have not started my franchise yet, as I am waiting for Scott's draft rosters. I have already made these trades though(kinda like an offseason trade irl), so make up a preliminary offer for us, so we know what you are interested in. If you could could you put Garza and Soriano in separate deals, as it is easier with the trade negotiation acreen(as you can only put in 3players at a time) thanks for your time, and hope to hear from you soon!

        TO: Any Interested Orginazations
        FROM: Houston Astros GM
        SUBJECT: Jordan Schafer

Jordan Schafer is on the block since we acquired Denard Span from the Minnesota Twins. We are looking to move Schafer as we feel he is no more valuable here in Houston and feel like hes still young and can produce for another ball club for years to come.

For us he has been in both our MLB system as well as our Triple A system. His stats are as followed.

        Triple A: .311/366/.568 in 19 Games, 74 at bats, with 3 HR and 13 RBI 4 SB

MLB: .222/.286/.325 in 54 Games, 194 at bats, with 2 HR and 14 RBI 12 SB

We are currently looking for a vet that can take over ever 3rd or 2nd as we lost both Altuve and Paredes to the 60 day DL.

We are currently in the playoff hunt and are welling to package him if need me.

        Thanks,

We are contacting you about Cameron Maybin. I haven't started my franchise yet, so I going off real life stats. Maybin is barely above the Mendoza line, so we think he is only hurting you guys, but we want him for our team. We believe your ballpark is hindering him, and we have a ballpark that we believe can help him get back to normal. Since I'm going off real life stats, we are making a playoff push, and y'all are at bottom of MLB. I know since I'm contacting y'all, I should be giving the first offer, but I want to know who y'all are interested in. We maybe could part ways with Mark Reynolds, as we think he has enough power to still hit moon shots at petco. He is only 28, and would actually cause pitchers to worry about your lineup with Headley, Reynolds and Quentin in middle. Please get back to us soon!

I have to say, I agree with this. The trading block idea is not a terrible one, but it just does not have the same effectiveness as a direct proposal. I agree, NYYankees42, I am much more likely to respond to a direct proposal than I am to a trading block message. I might be interested in the player, in my franchise, but unless I can obviously see how the Cubs would without question benefit, I'm prob not going to respond. Right, I don't know your franchise world; but also, I try to take proposals seriously, and really think about them, and I just don't have time to do that with every trading block message.

Understand, I'm not trying to nix the trading block--if it works for some of us, then ok, we're still figuring this stuff out. Basic rule of thumb for me, as a GM, is this: this trade is for YOU, in YOUR franchise. If I negotiate with you, I'm helping YOU out. Therefore, the majority of the work (looking at ratings, potentials; reporting standings, stats, lineups, injuries or other particulars of the universe; figuring out what MY team needs in YOUR universe) should be on the proposer. As a rep, I should be able to look at your proposal, think a bit, do a little research (or none, if the proposer's info is complete enough), and then shoot you an answer relatively quickly and without fuss, and if we negotiate, then again, it will usually be accompanied by questions for more context from your universe, which you will provide and then I will make a decision. Understand, I ain't lazy; I just want this to work well enough that I can help others, get help myself, and still have time to play my own franchise(S)! Oh, and work and sleep and bathe and all that other stuff. So, for a trading block proposal, that's basically putting a lot of the work on ME; if you're not offering me Harper, Strasburg, Cespedes, Teheran... even then, again, it's YOUR universe, not mine, so... that's why, to this point (though in this last case, it's from a Cubs 'chise, so I wouldn't respond anyway), I haven't, and probably won't, jump on too many trading block posts. For what it's worth.

edit: as I read through this, I remember that I really, really initially liked the idea of "shopping" a player, as that really made me feel like a gm; but that would really only work if we were GMs in the same league (which somebody earlier, and pokerplaya earlier than that, mentioned; not a bad idea, sounds like fun, I guess we all hope that will happen eventually online anyway--but would have to be kept separate from the Panel in some way, or it would get REEEEEEALLLY confusing). Again, no attempt/desire/right to force anyone else to agree; just, this is how I do it, and why you probably won't get many bites on trading block offers from me.

Sorry to inform you but im currently not on the PS3 right now, (due to the NBA Finals lol), but im currently looking for a valuable vet or back up option for 3rd or 2nd to man a up either of those positions until i can get Altuve back from the DL. Matt Downs is currently floating between the 2 positions until either A.) i can bring somebody in or B.) Johnson gets out of his slump.

If maybe you can come up with some kind of proposal (until the finals are over) we can start from there. And ill see what i can come up with when this game is over.

                Thanks,

We plan on playing him in left. We want a speedy outfield, ESP since Markakis isn't, so Jones can help Markakis cover ground in right if we have a speedster in left.

We are very high on Mark Reynolds as we feel like he can provide us that spark and can bring us some power from the hot corner. This would also allow us to to keep Matt Downs where he belongs at 2nd, until we can get Altuve back healthy and back in action. With that said here is our first proposal. We will deffiantly be willing to listen to any counter offers.

                        Orioles get:
                        Jordan Schafer
                        Jose Thompson

                        Astros get:
                        Mark Reynolds
                        Clayton Schrader

Once again this is just a starting proposal and it is negotiable. We are also high on Ryan Flaherty as we feel like he is MLB ready but being blocked by Reynolds

This would also allow us to to keep Matt Downs where he belongs at 2nd, until we can get Altuve back healthy and back in action. With that said here is our first proposal. We will deffiantly be willing to listen to any counter offers.

                          Orioles get:
                          Jordan Schafer
                          Jose Thompson

                          Astros get:
                          Mark Reynolds
                          Clayton Schrader

Once again this is just a starting proposal and it is negotiable. We are also high on Ryan Flaherty as we feel like he is MLB ready but being blocked by Reynolds
Going to check players out now. If needed, we could include Flaherty also, as we have Arencibia to play 3rd.(converting him, also going to be backup C)

Are thee any other good prospects that you would be willing to part with if we threw in another good MLB player or 2? We really like Singleton and George Springer among others. Let us know!

who are you considering throwing in? in my chise Roberts was traded to the Cardinals (just for future reference)

Also our untouchables are Singleton, Springer, Cosart, and Martinez

Wow, that untouchables list really hurts us! If we threw in Markakis, and maybe someone else, could we get Singleton. I'm doubting you guys would part with him unless we threw in someone like Adam Jones(which won't happen!), but the infield of him, machado, Schoop, and Chris Davis really excites us. Let us know!
