Ok I guess I learned something today about baseball.
Glad to know MLB The Show is very realistic in this department.

Pitchers used to throw 130+ pitches quite often, I believe Nolan Ryan once threw 238 pitches in a game and look how long he played. Go back and look the stats for 1965 thru the 1980's and see the average pitches per starter and compare them to today's numbers.

In the Show this is how I manage my team in Franchise mode. I always to get my starters deep into the game. I kept Strasburg in my rotation and got the Nationals into the Series. I look for pitchers with stamina. I only keep one or at most 2 middle relief guys in and only one long relief in my pen.But thats just me, tried to "Money Ball" my franchise this year and I made it so??
Well in the case with C. Sabathia he had thrown around 130 pitches and gave up around 5 hits though 8 innings I think it was.

You do have a point though, it still does whacky stuff and needs to be massaged more to reflect real life in certain situations.

Another thing I would like to add is to look at the number of complete games I just looked it up real quick and from memory so I am not testifying to the complete accuracy but you get the idea. Just look at the number of complete games thrown since 1980 to the 2000's. This is just for Baltimore by the way, not the league did not have that much time lol. Got this off ESPN to

          <table style="width: 250px; float: center;"><thead><tr><th>YR</th> <th>CG</th> <th>YR</th> <th>CG</th> <th>YR</th> <th>CG</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr class="last"> <td>1979</td> <td>52</td> <td class="alt-bg">1989</td> <td class="alt-bg">16</td> <td>1999</td> <td>17</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>1980</td> <td>42</td> <td class="alt-bg">1990</td> <td class="alt-bg">10</td> <td>2000</td> <td>14</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>*1981</td> <td>25</td> <td class="alt-bg">1991</td> <td class="alt-bg">8</td> <td>2001</td> <td>10</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>1982</td> <td>38</td> <td class="alt-bg">1992</td> <td class="alt-bg">20</td> <td>2002</td> <td>8</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>1983</td> <td>36</td> <td class="alt-bg">1993</td> <td class="alt-bg">21</td> <td>2003</td> <td>9</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>1984</td> <td>48</td> <td class="alt-bg">*1994</td> <td class="alt-bg">13</td> <td>2004</td> <td>8</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>1985</td> <td>32</td> <td class="alt-bg">*1995</td> <td class="alt-bg">19</td> <td>2005</td> <td>2</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>1986</td> <td>17</td> <td class="alt-bg">1996</td> <td class="alt-bg">13</td> <td>2006</td> <td>5</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>1987</td> <td>17</td> <td class="alt-bg">1997</td> <td class="alt-bg">8</td> <td>2007</td> <td>4</td> </tr> <tr class="last"> <td>1988</td> <td>20</td> <td class="alt-bg">1998</td> <td class="alt-bg">16</td> <td>2008</td> <td>4</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> * = strike-shortened season

And he had a 160-pitch outing when he was like 42 years old! These days, I agree, the managers can be a bit finicky with pitch counting. Which is rightfully so I guess, with some of the big name and high salary guys.

I saw mention of Edwin Jackson, and I think he is pretty common for high pitch counts. Verlander is another, and the perfect example of someone who NEVER wants to come out of the game. Oh, and any body who pitched for Dusty Baker in the 2000s pretty much pitched until he was tired, lol.

I saw a graphic somewhere too, that showed the number of games in which pitcher threw more than 120 pitches. The numbers looked much like these... tons in the 80s and 90s, and a dramatic drop-off in the 2000s.

I see where tnixen is coming from on this. I lost a no-no, and then the shutout as well, in the 8th in RTTS about two weeks ago. My guy had ZERO energy at that point and my team was comfortably ahead (7 or 8-1). Not only did my manager not pull me after the first hit (debatable) or the first run with the potential for more (highly unlikely), he sent me back out for the 9th (Dusty Baker!). I get having logic in there to go for special achievements, but leaving a totally gassed pitcher in there to finish a blowout for the sake of a complete game doesn't jive with how pitchers are handled today.

And I maxed out the manager hook slider during the game, although I'm not sure how a mid-game change affects the logic. I believe I usually have it at 6 or 7.

Sorry for adding yet another non-question, Freezetime. Thanks for all your work.

I thought of a good question to ask Ramone that may or may not have been answered

After a player is traded and gets a cyberface can we edit that players facial appearance and give them different hair and beards?

I know the difference between the two. I was just referring to the pitch count, He said a pitcher threw 130 pitches and that seemed odd to him. I was just using Ejax as an example of pitch counts being high and a player not being pulled by a manager. EJax is known as a pitcher who has high pitch counts regularly regaurdless if he's throwing a no hitter/shutout/or 8 innings whatever the case may be.

This would be awesome, but I highly doubt it with existing players. Even with the cyberface when added to a different team.

I think there was a thread a while back about high pitch counts, I'll just repost some of the stuff I wrote back then:

                              Re 120+ pitches:

If the pitcher wasn't throwing a no-hitter then it should be an extremely rare occurrence, especially in this day and age where pitch counts are taken into consideration by every single team. on Wikipedia (not the best source, I know) search "pitch count" and you get a chart that shows that there were 40 instances were a starter threw greater than 125 pitches in a game last year - that's 0.82% of all starts made last year. If you include 2009 and 2010, 0.62% of all starts resulted in the starter throwing greater than 125 pitches.

This article is also a very good read, helps reinforce the point that the game has changed quite a bit over the past 30 years.

And to just reinforce the point, per baseball reference there have only been three instances since 2005 where a pitcher has thrown 140 or more pitches (0.0078%), and only 51 instances where a pitcher has thrown 130 or more pitches (0.13%).
My opinion on how to solve the issue:

I'm sure there is a line of code that reads something like "if CPU pitcher has given up x amount of runs then CPU pitcher is pulled". There just needs to be an overriding line of logic added that pulls the CPU pitcher once the pitcher becomes tired, with the exception being a no hitter.

Ultimately I hope a team management/strategies option is added (basically player and managerial tendencies) next year so we can customize bullpen strategies, starter philosophies, roles, etc. so this will never be a problem again.

That's actually how the manager hook slider is supposed to work though.

Part of the problem is it isn't coded to take into pitchers or managers separately in their logic(which is what seanjeezy is alluding to) and tendencies would be great for that.
