I just threw Mauer out there b/c none of those backup names sounded exciting. Sometimes, you just have to go BIG.

Mauer could play 1B or DH also.

If you don't want to offer anything significant, you could try for Chris Herrmann from the Twins. Lefty-bat, athletic, cheap, young, plus defense.

I like it if you like it. I think it checks the fair and real boxes. Conger would cost you another level or two (like Cecil or Tirado) up from Crawford too, so this is a better deal in terms of not giving up much of anything.

Yeah, agree 100%. Really like the Crawford for Herrmann. Conger would cost a little more too, so better this way if JPA's locked in as the starter.

Curious, would a JA Happ with a mid 4's ERA in the MLB (got sent down for Dustin McGowan and is tearing it up in AAA) for a Tyler Moore who's 0-13 or something for Washington sound alright? This is around June. May not make this but curious.

In a vacuum, that's an underpay for Moore. If the Nats need an SP and Happ's doing well, it could work.
