    RE: Nick Castellanos

While we do like Mr. Papelbon as a relief option, we aren't as high on him as you are. Also, we feel that trading Nick Castellanos for a player anything short of Giancarlo Stanton would be a colossal failure on our part. Nick is our top prospect and is very close to taking over right field for us, and we feel dealing him for an average reliever (which we have many of) is a silly deal and an easy one to decline. Like you said, it is early in the year and we have no interest in going out and trading away key prospects for a guy in Papelbon who just isn't all that valuable in our eyes. If our bullpen is failing miserably midseason we would probably opt to give Rondon or Valverde a try before acquiring Papelbon.

Thanks for the offer and good luck on the rebuilding process, but we cannot part with Castellanos for Papelbon. Not to mention you want two additional players as well, the deal is incredibly lop-sided and it doesn't benefit us in the slightest.

    Best of luck,
    David Dombrowski

Did you already sim a season? You didn't say, but obviously the rule wouldn't apply to you if you did sim. And, to the best of my knowledge, people do try to keep it pretty realistic in here regarding contracts, depth charts, scouting reports etc..so not sure why this draft/trade rule would be considered TOO realistic.

          David,

Fair enough. I can admit, after the fleecing of our farm system that the Astros pulled on us in the Pence deal (thanks RAJ), we may be over-valuing our current talent ever so slightly. Be that as it may, all talks have to begin somewhere. The important thing that you should glean from my email is that we're looking to get younger and our teams appear to match up pretty well for a potential deal, so naturally I wanted to put it out there. And if we sell, it's likely that Papelbon will be the first to go. I find it a bit odd that you find Jonathan to be an "average" reliever. The guy has a career 2.37 ERA over 500 IP. With almost 100 more K to IP and 258 saves to boot. That is dominance and the guy has been doing it for years.

What if we were to talk about Avisail Garcia, instead? We also have a piece or two like John Mayberry Jr. who would be an excellent platoon option with your Andy Dirks. John's career lefty split is .285/.330/.545 with 20 dingers in 348 ABs.

          Thoughts?

            TO: Reds Representatives!
            FROM: New York Mets
            Re: Ryan Ludwick

We are inquiring about your interest in a trade that would send your fourth outfielder, Mr. Ludwick, to Queens. As you know, Ludwick is struggling this season, batting .125-1-3 in 40 ABs. I'm not sure if the lack of playing time isn't allowing him to find any rhythm, but with Choo, Heisey, and Bruce getting the majority of the playing time, I think he might be able to fit into our OF nicely.

Since your bullpen is struggling (just one reliever, Chapman, with an ERA under 3.75) we're prepared to offer you one of our young relievers who not only can play a role this year, but beyond.

Jeurys Familia, just 23 (R/R), is currently 0-1, with a 4.70 ERA, but with a 0.91 WHIP through 7.2 IPs of relief. We'd also like to offer 23-year old SP prospect Luis Mateo, currently in A ball. As you know, Familia is a B-pot, 70 ovr player.

I know, sitting in a disappointing 4th place (6-11) in the Central, you might want to do something to shake up your club. I feel like this is a more than reasonable offer for a player who is currently under utilized.

            Offer:
            RP Jeurys Familia
            SP Luis Mateo

            For:
            OF Ryan Ludwick

While it may have been an exaggeration to call Jonathan average on our side, it was also an exaggeration to think he was worth our top prospect and two additional players. He may be a good reliever, but we don't value relievers as highly as you seem to. As to Garcia, we aren't interested in dealing our 2012 Minor League Player of the Year and a player we view as our #2 prospect as of the end of last season. We are incredibly high on Garcia and view him as an excellent future big league talent.

Besides that, we have no interest in moving anyone this early in the season, regardless of the deal and players involved. We felt good enough about our relief pitching to stand pat in the offseason and we continue to have confidence in our guys to perform until they prove they cannot do so. I have tons of confidence in the team we have assembled and want to see what they have before I go around bringing in pieces. So again, we are going to stand pat right now and give our guys every opportunity to show us what they have. Come back to us at the beginning of June with the important numbers (our bullpen's stats, Papelbon's stats, where we stand in the division/wild card, etc.) and if our relief pitching is struggling we can begin these conversations again. I don't mean to come off rude or like I'm unwilling to deal, its just that we don't like to make deals until we know exactly where our team measures up.

All the best and no hard feelings intended,
