Re: OS Arbitration Panel Thread 2013 Edition

    TO: Miami Marlins
    FROM: Seattle Mariners
    SUBJECT: Giancarlo Stanton

As you know, we are in dire need of a young, proven power hitter. We felt we offered a more than fair offer for Justin Upton and would like to offer you something similar for the beast that is Giancarlo Stanton.

    Our opening offer is:

SS Nick Franklin (AAA) - .304 avg 5 hr 52 hits 30 rbi
    SP James Paxton (AAA) - 9-2 w-l 2.21 era 113 so 27 bb
    SP Danny Hultzen (AAA) - 3-4 w-l 5.49 era 67 so 23 bb

    for

RF Giancarlo Stanton (MLB) - .284 avg 10 hr 71 hits 40 rbi

We know you just traded for Adeiny Hechavarria and he is the shortstop of the future for the Marlins as it stands now but Nick Franklin could easily be moved to second base and develop into one of the league's premier offensive players at that position. Or you could play Mr. Franklin to third and he will be the long term solution at the hot corner. Both James Paxton and Danny Hultzen project to be at least be middle of the rotation starters and have the makeup and stuff to be dominant.

This would also help the Marlins image as it pertains to the fans and the locker room as Mr. Stanton made it very clear he was unhappy with the way this last off-season was handled by the Marlins' front office. Also, you won't have to worry about cracking open that checkbook to sign Mr. Stanton long term. This trade will also allow the Marlins to eventually have an outfield of Christian Yelich, Jake Marisnick, and Marcell Ozuna.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

P.S. Stats are as of June 17th 2013 in my Mariners Franchise. If you want more stats I would be glad to provide them. Oh, the Mariners are 36-35 and 9.0 games behind in the division race while the Marlins are 28-42 and 14.0 games out in the NL East.

I don't mean to be a mini-mod here, but quoting such a long post just to add third party commentary which rule #6 warns against probably isn't the best thing to do to keep the thread clutter free.

I have literally never heard that expression before. I have you down for the White Sox, because I assume that's what the pale hose is lol.

Wow.. this is getting some pretty sweet support. Thanks to all the guys popping up the past few days, taking the teams that needed representation. As a result, we are down to three teams needing representation. The Rays, Reds, and Brewers.

                      Subject- Domonic Brown

Your probably aware of our rightfield situation here in KC. We can head into the season with Jeff Francoeur starting in right and we can let him get 500 ABs while he hits anywhere from .220 to .280. However, we'd like to explore an upgrade and we feel that the unproven Domonic Brown would be a good fit here in KC.

The fact that you don't have really any solid candidates for your rotation and bullpen leads me to offer you the following trade:

                      Felipe Paulino
                      Johnny Giavotella

                      FOR

                      Domonic Brown

Paulino has electric stuff and actually has one of the highest swing and miss rates in baseball. The stuff is definitely there and I could see him fit nicely into the back of your rotation.

Giavotella has a potent bat... there is no doubt about that. He hit .321 with 10 homeruns at AAA in 2012. Unfortunately, with Chris Getz favored by Ned Yost, Giavotella has never really seen consistent playing time. In all honesty, he needs to play everyday to reach his potential.

Please consider our offer and thank you for your time.

I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

                        TO: Seattle Mariners
                        FROM: Miami Marlins
                        SUBJECT: Giancarlo Stanton

We appreciate you reaching out to us to get the dialogue moving on a trade involving Mr. Stanton. As I'm sure you are aware, we are in a rebuilding phase, and have moved all of our big contracts for a slew of young players and prospects that strengthen our future. Mr. Stanton is our one star attraction remaining, and as such, we are not willing to part with him without obtaining a significant haul in return. We are rebuilding, this is true, but Mr. Stanton is young and we are counting on him to be a major piece in our future success.

Your original offer is very generous, but I fear we will require a more substantial package for a player the caliber of Mr. Stanton. Here is my counterproposal:

                        MARINERS GET:
                        OF Giancarlo Stanton

                        MARLINS GET:
                        SP Taijuan Walker
                        SP Danny Hultzen
                        SP James Paxton
                        SP Brandon Maurer
                        SS Nick Franklin
                        3B Stefen Romero

We are sure this seems like a lot to ask for, but Mr. Stanton is our only remaining drawing card; without him, even fewer people would show up to games. We are open to further negotiation on this, however, and look forward to your response.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to our trade proposal. Unfortunately, at this point and time, we are unable to part with that many of our top prospects. We would be willing to part with Hultzen, Paxton, Maurer, Franklin, and even other players but at this point and time Taijuan Walker (along with Mike Zunino) is untouchable. We view him as the next Felix Hernandez and as such would command more than Giancarlo Stanton as part of a package. We understand we might have to overpay to pry Mr. Stanton from Miami but we can't afford to completely pillage our farm system, and immediate future, to do so. That being said we have a new proposal.

                          Our new offer:

                          SP Danny Hultzen
                          SP James Paxton
                          SP Brandon Maurer
                          SS Nick Franklin
                          RP Carter Capps/Stephen Pryor

                          for

                          RF Giancarlo Stanton

P.S. Using the potential ratings in my Franchise, Hultzen is an A-, Paxton A, Franklin A-, Maurer B+, Capps B, and Pryor is a C.

It is a positive note to see there is still interest in Domonic Brown, however you may already know that he was the hottest hitter this spring for us and he has shown all the right signs of breaking out and living up to his Top 5 prospect potential. Giavotella is very interesting as we have Chase Utley who might very well be in another uniform next season. Given our lack of outfield depth it would be unwise for us to trade Domonic Brown at this time as we believe we could potentially grab a wildcard spot and we need his bat. We would be very open to looking at trading Brown at the trade deadline if we are out of it, however if you are interested in any of our other outfielders let us know.

Your concerns are well-warranted. And the inclusion of potentials helps the decision-making process. This package is much more amenable to our front office people. If you are willing to part with the following package, we can complete this deal.
