Its a timing window issue, plain and simple. They need to extend the window for sending a runner an extra base. By the time a hit reaches the outfield, the runner on second is too close to third to avoid the slowdown. This needs to be fixed.

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
Im pretty shocked that this issue still has not been fixed via patch. They cant be perfect but we know they try, and this is certainly a fix thats needed because its ridiculous watching that stutter EVERY time you send a runner home.
I am trying to use L1 instead of manually sending the runner but i hate having to do that after the system has finally become second nature to me!Comment

I agree, the system works well WHEN we are able to give the command to take the extra base in time.
What we all know, and what Russell and SCEA fail to acknowledge, is the fact that when there is a runner on second, it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to give that command in time to avoid the slowdown.
I could understand if the timing of this couldn't be fixed via patch. But, at least acknowledge the issue, and tell us it cannot be fixed, instead of trying to convince us there is no issue.

They haven't fixed it, and aren't planning on fixing it because they claim it isn't a bug, and that the system is working as intended.

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
Been happening a lot in my RTTS.
Looks terrible like a severe drop in framerate, instead of the player slowing down like I guessing it is supposed to be.
I've also seen it when you are running past 1st on a throwing error over the 1st basemans head, but the player slows down. comes to a complete stop like he is going to go back to 1st then continues on the second.
Both of these are with the analog stick held up the whole time.Comment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
If it was a timing issue that triggered the slow down then it would be one sided only happening to the human player. The CPU is faced with the same challenges of slowndown as well. The concept is basically not complete, there are no specific animations to display the situation properly so for now we have slowdown. It just needs to be fleshed out more.
The problem is we are getting slowdowns when we shouldn't The runner's mentality should always be to score from second on a base hit. We (and the CPU as well) should have a much bigger window to trigger the advancement without triggering the slowdown.
And, there ARE animations that show the slowdown properly. These happens at times that they should, when a very late decision is made to take another base.Last edited by ktd1976; 04-24-2013, 02:28 AM.Comment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
On a related note, did they take the "railroad" the catcher option out of the game? Haven't been able to do it once this year.
Kinda sucks.

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
I disagree. It ONLY seems to happen when runners are on second, and go second to home on a base hit. Because the timing window is so small, that the runner is already out of that window by the time the ball gets through the infield, then the slowdown affects the CPU as well, as they are also late in sending the runner home.
If it were a timing issue, wouldn't I NOT be seeing it?Comment

On another related note, is there an animation for the catcher to actually DROP the ball once 'railroad'-ed?Brewers | Golden Eagles | Packers | Bucks | Badgers | Fulham FC

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
No, you would still be seeing the issue. The timing window is too small. Not just for the human, but for the cpu runners as well. The cpu isn't given enough time to go the extra base either. The cpu isn't deciding right away to send the runner home, rather waiting til the ball makes it out of the infield. By the time the ball makes the outfield, the runner at second is ALREADY out of the timing window, for both the human player and the cpu, making it impossible to avoid the slowdown. Realisticly, we should have until the runner is 3/4ths the way to third before it becomes too late to send him home without a slowdown. We currently have until he is less than 1/2 way there.Comment

I've seen this when hitting L1 at contact. As small as the window may be in your theory, there is no way it is shorter than hitting it at contact.Comment
