Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
You assign your scout to look for a particular position and makeup first. Once all your scouts find those prospects, then you give each scout a player assignment.
I always assign the scout in that players region as a rule of thumb.
You have to highlight the scout first on the top then click the left stick to go down to the prospect list and choose the player you want scouted and press the square button to assign the scout to him.
Then keep a look out in your message box and you will get word when your scout is done evaluating the prospect.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I guess I will throw my 2 cents in. I am something like 6 or 7 years into my franchise with the Rockies. I typically scout a player type for 3-4 days then move onto the next type and do this for about 3 weeks - 1 month then start scouting individuals. If I am really hurting at a certain position I try to scout plenty of them but I go based on potential more than anything because if a player doesn't pan out at least they will be valued on the trade market. Sim day to day and keep an eye on the email icon, it will alert you when a scout is done and I never let them have down time.
Developing players has its ups and downs. I still havent narrowed down when it is best to bring someone to the majors or let them stay in AAA one more year. I have not had a single drafted player reach a 99 overall yet but I have drafted some good players, no MVP's or Cy Young's but good players. This past season I had multiple drafted guys hit between .275-350 with 25-40 HR's and over 100 RBI's.
It seems to me that outfielders that reach high overalls are easy to come by... I have too many to know what to do with. SP's whether they have reached the 90's or not I have not had any that did all that great and have yet to see under a 3 ERA most are 4 or higher. RP's are impossible to find in the draft it seems unless you pick super high (like top 5) and then you are probably passing up better position players.
The saddest thing for me so far? I traded away an A potential prospect SP who seemed to plateau in AA... saw him on another team this year 97 overall.Comment

I just hit June 5th or 6th and the scouting cannot be selected now. I guess the draft is soon ?? And does anyone know when we can start scouting again ??!I play MLB exclusively with my cousin. Usually looking for info on Franchises. We played minor league baseball as 9-10 YOs on the Zephyrs.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I have a system that I use that works pretty well for me. I use the first week of the season to scout only right handed pitchers for all four regions. When I get to the first sunday I switch all scouts to left handed pitchers for all four regions. The next sunday. I will scout all infield propsects for all four regions. Depending on efficiency scouting all infielders in the region typically takes about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. When they are finished I switch to outfielders. This generally takes about 1 and a half weeks to complete. I then go into the next month with about 5 days to scout catchers. There doesnt seem to be a bunch of catchers in each region so I can generally complete this in about 5 days.
It is then about a month till the draft and I start scouting individual players. I dont necessarily scout by ETA. This is very erratic and changes quite frequently after scouting players. I just go down the list and scout players with there potential bars high in several attributes. I have come away with some great steals. I have yet to see a breakout star though like they described in the developer videos before release such as a mike trout or bryce harper (My team or the computer). After the patch I feel like potential in general has been kind of jacked up.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
So I'm a bit lost, also.
I've assigned all four of my scouts to begin finding new players at the beginning of the year. I've played about two weeks.
I haven't received any emails, I don't think, so... are the players that these scouts are finding getting dumped in that area underneath them? How do I tell the difference between the "Top 100" or whatever and the "newly discovered" prospects?Comment

The players that the scouts are finding won't have a blue star next to them. The prospects with the blue stars are pre-discovered for you, and usually have a somewhat low OVR or are older than most prospects.
My method is to search for new players for the first month of the season, rotating each scout through all the positions of their region. Then when that's done, I start assigning players to the scouts. I really don't pay attention to region at this point, as it's more important that I get all the players scouted rather than having 100% accuracy. There's usually a lopsided amount of top prospects from each region anyway. So, from there I let the scout do his thing for 2 days, and then I move on to the next player. 2 days usually gets them halfway scouted, and you'll get a better sense of their actual potential. I do this for the remaining scouting time. Eventually, you'll get back down to the players you originally scouted in the beginning, and sometimes they'll jump back up to the top. But that's been rare in my experience.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
So in my first season with the Yankees we have 3 really early picks because of the compensation picks for Swisher/Soriano. I've been using auto scouting because I've read that doing it manually that it's really easy to get a ton of gems. Anyways, here are my results for my first draft of my franchise.
Round 1 - LF Willy Ramirez 52 Overall (A Potential) ETA 2020
Compensation Round Pick 1 - 3B Kurt Clinton 55 Overall (A Potential) ETA 2019
Compensation Round Pick 2 - SS Art Winkler 45 Overall (B Potential) ETA 2022
Round 2 - SP Jimmy Pinto 54 Overall (C Potential) ETA 2020
Round 3 - C Emil Pineiro 54 Overall (B Potential) ETA 2019
Round 4 - 3B Omar Molina 48 Overall (B Potential) ETA 2019
Round 5 - RF John Sorenson 44 Overall (B Potential) ETA 2022
Round 6 - 3B Freddie Guerra 44 Overall (B Potential) ETA 2022
Anyways that's what I got and I'm pretty happy with the results overall. I will try and keep tabs on these guys and post updates as I go along in my franchise.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I drafted Ken Nomo with my 1st round pick. The highest potential lefty SP. I spotted him in scouting and wanted him or another guy and the other one didn't enter the draft so I was happy. 91 potential. 18 yo. Velocity is top attribute.
I'm giving him Hideo Nomos wind up. Can't wait to play with this guy.I play MLB exclusively with my cousin. Usually looking for info on Franchises. We played minor league baseball as 9-10 YOs on the Zephyrs.Comment
