Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I'm in Year 4 of my Astros Franchise and I'm now playing a 162 game season with the team that I rebuilt. I had an amazing first draft class that helps to keep me interested by playing with my own guys.
Year 1
1rd- 3B Blaine Martinez 74 ovr 97 Pot - Now 94 overall starts and bats 5th
2rd- LF Justin Blanco 63 ovr 94 Pot - Now 89 overall starts and bats 2nd
3rd- RF Elmer Garcia 61 ovr 97 Pot - Now 99 overall starts and bats 3rd (He developed passed his potential which is awesome!)
4rd 1B Mario Armas 50 ovr 97 Pot - Now 78 overall bench on MLB
5rd C Samuel Elez 54 ovr 97 Pot - Now 75 overall bench on MLB
Year 2
1rd SP Vladimir Castro 70 ovr 94 Pot - Now 87 overall #4 Starter MLB
I'm using the OSFM rosters, but I simmed the first 3 seasons before installing the patch so I'd be able to see my players grow and start. If you want any info on how any of the real MLB prospects are growing or the stats for these players (I'm about a month into the season) let me know!Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I started this thread about a month ago, but since this one took off Ill just post it here.
I thought this would be a cool idea to see what everyones best draft picks have been so far. Where you picked them, what their projected potential and arrivals date was, etc.
In my very first dynasty, I picked David Jang with Rays. 1st round, 21st pick in 2013. I cant remember his projected arrival date and potential was, but I know it was later and lower than what ended up happening. I want to say it was low 90s potential with a projected 2016 arrival.
I was very surprised at the start of my 2015 season to see he was in the high 80's somehow. By the end of 2015, only two seasons after I selected him, he was up to 98 overall. Pics below. I have another Astros franchise and I havent had anyone come close to his overall, or had anyone progress as fast as he did.

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I've posted this question a couple times in different places and haven't gotten an answer. So in my franchise one of the 'blue chip' prospects is a second baseman. His current overall is 74, potential is 98, and MLB eta is 2014. However, his potential stats are 81 contact, 63 power, 67 fielding, 69 speed, and 53 arm.
Now is that really the ratings a 98 rated player would have or are the potential statistics not very accurate? Are the blue bars still based on my scouts perspective even on the blue chippers?Comment

Also, don't forget about other categories that impact a player's OVR rating like Vision, Discipline, Durability, BR Ability, etc.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
My assumption with the draft-able players so far is that you can view them as a final product by hitting the triangle button.
I forget the wording but something like "current" and "potential". Using this method there are a large group guys showing higher potential but still very limited overall abilities.
Is this assumption correct?Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
As for developing...
Is there any negative impact to keeping a prospect in AA instead of AAA? For instance if you have a 22 year-old B potential prospect it seems to make more sense to pitch him in AA were he will go against worse players and could hit a hot steak moving him to the A potential level.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
From what I have noticed it depends on potential and age. I've learned to bump my A potential players up a level when they reach the lower end of that leagues ratings. For instance a young A potential guy with overall in the high 60's even though he isn't highly rated yet I bump them to AAA and that seems to make them rise very fast.
The same goes for bringing young guys up to the majors especially pitchers may have a rough first year or two but stick with them. I have one pitcher who's first season I brought him up he went 6-12 with a 4.76 ERA and now he is 11-2 this year so far with a 3.52.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
A potential players
67 (high 60's) and up - AAA
the rest AA
B potential
low 70's and up - AAA
50-low 70's - AA
under 50 - A (I try not to draft lower than 50 though and just skip the selections)
Prospects no matter how they are gathered is the life blood of a good team with a decent budget in this game. I'm in 2025 and with 1 game left I am looking at a 111 win season and of the 25 players of my MLB roster:
all but maybe 2 were either drafted by me, traded for as prospects or picked up on waivers. I rarely sign FA's and most of the time it's for minor league spots to fill requirements or for MLB level RP's because they seem super hard to develop to high ratings.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
Oh and something to add, pay attention to the waiver wire. I traded a 1B prospect away because I felt I had my 1B of the future, a few days later that same player I traded away was sent down to the AAA on waiver's and I picked him right back up... He is now 24 yrs old and a 99.Comment
