Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread

Never have I been this interested in Asian pitchers and I'm so glad MLB the show has brought that to me.I play MLB exclusively with my cousin. Usually looking for info on Franchises. We played minor league baseball as 9-10 YOs on the Zephyrs.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
- When hiring/firing scouts, should I only hire a scout in the east to replace a scout in the east?
- Is it worth scouting outside of territories? For example, if my Scout in the East is graded 57 scouting pitchers and 91 position players, and my International Scout is graded 89 pitchers and 51 position players, is it worth scouting only position players in the East and only pitchers Internationally? Limiting myself scares me. And that brings me to my last question...
- Should I be more concerned with getting the best scouts available, regardless of territory, or should I find the best scout for each region? Obviously, I don't want to have all of my scouts from the West, but what if I had 2 scouts in the East, 1 in the West and 1 International, completely ignoring the Central region?

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I have a system that I use that works pretty well for me. I use the first week of the season to scout only right handed pitchers for all four regions. When I get to the first sunday I switch all scouts to left handed pitchers for all four regions. The next sunday. I will scout all infield propsects for all four regions. Depending on efficiency scouting all infielders in the region typically takes about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. When they are finished I switch to outfielders. This generally takes about 1 and a half weeks to complete. I then go into the next month with about 5 days to scout catchers. There doesnt seem to be a bunch of catchers in each region so I can generally complete this in about 5 days.
It is then about a month till the draft and I start scouting individual players. I dont necessarily scout by ETA. This is very erratic and changes quite frequently after scouting players. I just go down the list and scout players with there potential bars high in several attributes. I have come away with some great steals. I have yet to see a breakout star though like they described in the developer videos before release such as a mike trout or bryce harper (My team or the computer). After the patch I feel like potential in general has been kind of jacked up.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I currently don't have an international scout. I'd imagine there's quite a few guys that I'd love to draft overseas. But alas...yay America?

That said, I've scouted positions that my scout wasn't great in. He'll find some players eventually, and get them scouted fully eventually too. It just takes longer and is a gamble because his perception of the player early on shouldn't be taken as accurate.

I look at it as some teams just have strengths in certain areas and weaknesses in others.Comment

I think the CPU (Auto) discovers for thee weeks to start the season, and then begins targeting specific players.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
This is a great thread. I really like the scouting system this year. The tutorial/guide could have been a lot better, but scouting is definitely a lot more fun and interesting than it's ever been in any game.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I'm not really sure if the players are same but I drafted a RF named Bobby Moreno, thank god I just got him to sign a 6 year deal. He is 23, A potential, 94 overall. At the all star break in his first season as the full on starter he is hitting .293, 24 HR, 90 RBI. I also just hit 2 HR's of 492 and 493 feet in the home run derby with him.
Con vs. R - 75
Con vs. L -63
Pow vs. R - 89
Pow vs. L - 74Comment

I drafted a SS 14th overall pick and he started out as a 74 overall with 80 Con vs L and 75 Con vs R. Very good speed and baserunning (70+) and every other stat was very balanced. He quickly rose up to the bigs (now 91 overall) and his rookie season stats were .315 AVG, 18 HRs, 88 RBIs, 45 SBs won RoY, Silver Slugger AND a Gold Glove. His power is developing well and will be my star player for a long time to come.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
1. I discover in the regions my scouts live in (in my world, it seems to make sense that they live in their region...and their wives must not let them travel. Bachelor scouts from the East would probably make a commute West, no questions asked. Mine are all married and commanded to stay put).
2. I select players to my scout's strength, generally.
3. I look at ETA first, and then select the player based on his potential and the type of ratings that would compliment my Farm System.
4. If no player seems to fit that mold, I scout whom I percieve to be the best overall player (obviously, I could always trade him if I had no use for him, getting in return either another prospect or a veteran if I needed one at the time).
5. I scout the player until I'm satisfied with what I see (usually between 75%-100%).
6. I either repeat step 3 or go back into discovery, depending on what I see.
Next season, though, I plan to do what the CPU does by starting the season with three weeks of discover, and then straight scouting up to the Draft (until the player is at 75%). With The Show, I like to keep things level between me and the computer (which is why I Auto Field/Classic pitch/etc.).
Not that THEY do it best; it's just the way they do it. Which is what I will do, next season (same rules as above, minus the going in and out of discovery phase).Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 04-19-2013, 11:06 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
When it comes to the discovery part of scouting to you have to assign them to a position or pitcher and types or can you leave all that blank and they will just find anyone and anything? In otherwords can I just assign them to regions and be done with it and have them actually do anything?Originally posted by theenginePlus, there are lots of illiterate Pro Bowlers.
