What are your expectations for Generated Counts

Wondering what everyone is thinking in regards to this as I'm excited for this as it will move things along for those trying to achieve playing a full season.
Are counts going to be random , say for instance 1 -2- or 3 pitches into the at bat. I would assume better pitchers are going to be a "pitchers count" for the most part, while the not so good pitchers pitching behind in a hitters count. Hot and cold players would enter into this equation , etc. And will there be a slider for this.
This could be a tricky thing for the Show team to implement, but if anyone can pull it off its them.
Love to get some opinions on this. Was ASB the last to have this feature?

Random in the sense that we looked at the last two years of real MLB pitch count data and created an algorithm that's balanced.

For instance during the 2013 season what was the average pitch count after 3 pitches were thrown etc....

I would assume better pitchers are going to be a "pitchers count" for the most part, while the not so good pitchers pitching behind in a hitters count.
Not really for elite hitters/pitchers they will on occasion get a count that's favored for them. But it's a very minor boost otherwise C.Kershaw would always have a pitchers count. etc.....

Hot and cold has no effect. There also isn't a slider

I bet Russell enjoyed seeing something posted that he can actually reply to in detail for a change!

Sounds like a great feature for someone like me with young kids, who will need to speed up a game with what little time i would have to get a full 9 innings in between work and chasing the kids around the house.

I'm excited for almost the same reason. No kids, but an incredibly busy schedule. I get very specific blocks of free time and I would never be able to finish games without this.

What about hitters who like to go deep in the count versus hitters who swing away early and often?

            Someone was bound to ask.

Actually, the difference in pitches per plate appearance isn't very significant. Mike Napoli led MLB in 2013 with 4.59 P/PA while A.J. Pierzynski had the lowest average in the league at 3.27.

So what do I expect? I expect it to be a useful feature to have to speed things up without having to skip entire half innings.

I expect to do more walking than I ever have before.
I hope I can turn this off while I'm pitching, I really only want to use it for batting in one of my two franchises.
              Thanks SDS! (& Knight lol)

From my understanding if you are using the option it is for both hitting and pitching, not selective. Your right though you should see more walks.

Thanks for the reply Russell. Wasn't sure how much "under wraps" you were under. With this feature I can see getting thru a series a night

I think there's no doubt that generated count is a great addition.

I'm just hoping it's also going to lead to realistic strike/walk ratios for the variety of match-ups we expect, even when we use it in CPU vs. CPU games, for example. I want to see Adam Dunn being Adam Dunn (high walks & high strikeouts), Ichiro being Ichiro (low walks & low strikeouts) for example, and similar for pitchers.

Effectively, I want to see attributes like Vision, Discipline, K/9 and BB/9 (along with others that affect pitchers' pitching strategy) affect the tendency for a player to get ahead, fall behind, etc., etc.

Re: What are your expectations for Generated Counts

The only thing that worries me about the pitch count generator, is the effect it might have on the running game. Now I always use the cardinals which isn't known to steal bases, but with the kolten wong and peter bourjus on the team now both are speedy guys who can easily steal 30 bags a piece, I'd would probably steal bases more often. So if using the pitch count generator I'm assuming its going to be difficult using your speedy players to steal bases with the possibility of not having a good pitch count to risk stealing a base.

Just for my sanity, will we have the first hitter come up with 2 pitches on the count and then the next come up with 4 pitches on the count?

I can't fathom one single reason why this would be the case.
