Re: Full Minors Roster for '09

I think someone asks when Knight's rosters will be out on every page. I also think it's answered on every other page. I didn't need to ask because I just picked a random page where Knight answers the question.

Knight, it must feel like you got kids in the back seat of your car asking, are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet.

PS. Knight maybe next time you reply you can change the name of the thread with your own projected date like "Full Minors Roster for '09 (projected release 2nd week of April)". I wonder if anyone would ask then?!?!?!

More like kids in the back of a bus!(no...I'm not making a short bus joke here...trust me)
....but you are good kids...so it's okay.

I don't really mind the "when are they expected?" questions...it's understandable.....what I don't like is when someone(like last year) starts spouting that it's taking too long. Thankfully, it doesn't happen often.

Anyway.....moving along nicely..... I wound up having to work the last couple of days and it was busy at work, so I couldn't get in any editing....I've just got the Giants left to do there 40 man...then I can start filling in.
Hopefully a lot of the guys that these teams have as Non Roster Invitiees...get minor league contracts as there is not much wiggle room.
On that note....I decided to ditch the SCEA Travis Snider and make my own due to theirs having a C potential. I will also leave you guys a template to redo a couple of other prospects(Fowler is another who is C who should be A....at least a B)....so that when you start your franchises...you can grab a guy from the FA list and re-do him in your own league.
I did do a little testing last night for the Rule V players(I'm trying to figure out the CPU logic on protecting/not protecting guys....as sometimes I see guys left unprotected that shouldn't...not many thankfully!...but I might fudge two 40 man rosters to cover these guys)...and I played a Met game vs. Baltimore. Zaun or Quiroz must have gotten injured(or played poorly) because batting second in the game was Matt Weiters......it was nice to see him get the call up because he most likely will anyway this year....and that's the whole reason I do these rosters...for situations like that!

Hey Knight great work on these rosters. But I do have one question, what will you do about the mess that is Baltimore's pitching rotation? Will you wait until opening day to set it? Or will you just give it your best guess to be done with it? Last I heard they still have 3 undecided spots in the rotation.

Also, to what extent will you be editing current MLB players? Just curious.

One set will have edits...for lineups and general gameplay.(position players)
One will have the stock ratings from SCEA.
Both will have the same Full Minor leaguers.
As for lineups/rotations...that's one of the reasons it will be out after Opening Day....so I can get those correct! (okay....the main reason is because it's so much work! )

Knight what you and the guys are doing for this community is incredible. I started working on Roster sets way back in the Tony LaRussa baseball days, luckily my wife would sit and help me. That took me forever and I'm sure it's not as detailed as what you and the guys are doing for this roster set. Great job and much appreciated and look forward to the roster when complete

BTW Where in NYC do you work?. I lived in the South Bronx for 17 years before moving to AZ.

Thanks Doc...it is good to see that.
I just can't get into a game where I'm playing with real players....and then start seeing fake guys mixed in...either through injury or down the road as they start making it in the league.

                If it's all fake players...right from the start....that I don't mind.

dnr....TL, huh?....We're in the same boat with a bunch of guys here(Doc included!).....we've been at this a LOOOOONG time....with the original Earl Weaver game.....some of us have been at this editing thing for over 20 years....crazy...
I'm in South Jamaica(St. Albans really....but a lot of people only recognize the area if I say South Jamaica or Hollis)

Eh....I'd like to, but it really turns out to more of the reference work.
I've got 4 different publications I use for player ratings and info.
I use sheets.....with slots for all the positions and fill in the different levels by hand using the reference material.
This way...when I get home....I simply go down the sheet...and use the PC to get a picture to do the face.

Don't worry....the City is taking care of any "down time" we get with extra days of everything...from drills....to building inspecitons....to you name it.

Some Info on the Pirates regarding their Non Roster invitees. The few with escape clauses are likely to make the team and the ones that can't get out of their minor league contract will likely play in AAA or AA. Here is the likely opening day roster for the Pirates.

Re: Full Minors Roster for '09

                        Thanks GoBucs!

Between you and tree3five....I better have the Pirates down COLD!

Okay....I have just about everyone you listed....just as you listed them....(don't worry...even with his little "setback" I gave Tabata the benefit of the doubt ..and made him a B )....but I have Jeff Sues as a B prospect.
From what I've read....now that they took him out of the rotation...and he doesn't have to rely on his less than average change-up as much....he's turning into quite a dominant reliever. I know he still walks too many guys...but he seems to have the potential to turn into a good MLB reliever.
If you really think that's out of the realm....I'll drop him down to a C.(it's refreshing to have a fan...two with the Buccos:wink:... of a club actually look at their club with some sobering reality rather than screaming that everyone is the next Bob Gibson or Mickey Mantle!)
I also have Walker as a B(although I was considering him to possibly be a C...I wish they would add +/- to the potentials!...and let us edit them)...Amazing that he was a catcher.....moved to the hot corner and was voted best defensive 3B by the coaches last year!
I think with time...he can overcome his plate woes....(he does have some good pop though). Let me know on this also...

                        Lastly...I have Vasquez as a reliever.....he's going into the rotation?.....I'll change that....thanks!

I don't think these rosters are going to be detailed enough for me to use Great work Knight! Looking forward to playing with Elvis in my Rangers franchise. Will these be ready tomorrow? Or Friday? Or Saturday?

I figured tree3five would have things down. Going into spring it was hard to tell who would make the bench and finish out the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation (not to mention the backup catcher job and 2 spots in the bullpen). It's starting to become clearer now and thought I'd post what it looks like.

That was crazy with Tabata's wife, you can't make that stuff up. Funny thing is, my brother lives in Tampa near where it happened.

If you have Jeff Sues as a B prospect that is fine. No need to do unnecessary work, but if you find you need a B prospect instead of a C prospect pitcher for another team, feel free to sacrifice Jeff Sues. One area the Pirates are in desperate need of help is pitching. If Sues can make his way onto a weak AAA pitching bullpen this year and do well I'd say the B potential might be justified. IMO the only truely B potential prospects in the Pirates system are McCutchen, Lincoln and Morris. Even Moskos who the Pirates took instead of Matt Weiters is probably only a C potential (he'll end up being a reliever probably).

Thanks for the kind comments, it's very sobering to be a fan of a losing team. It's easy to be realistic with the buccos, Dave Littlefield all but destroyed the farm system. Neal Huntington is doing a lot better though bringing in the likes of Alvarez, Tabata, Cunningham, Grossman, and D McCutchen (Imagine the Pirates system without these guys)

Walker again like Sues, If you have im as a B it's probably acceptable, most Prospect ratings have Walker as the top 5 or 6th guy in the Pirates system. Defensivly he's pretty good, and since the Pirates don't have any defensivly competent third basemen, his ability stands out. If he were 25 or 26 I would say he was a C potential but since he is only 23 going on 24 in September I would guess B is a good fit.

I also thought Virgil Vasquez would be a bullpen guy but right now Huntington and Russel have indicated that Vasquez is one of 3 guys battling for the 5th rotation spot for the Pirates (Karstens and Davis are the other two). Vasquez definetly doesn't have the stamina that Karstens or Davis has. I've read that the Pirates are going to see if Vasquez can be a Starter in AA probably. I'll look up the link tonight, it was either on the team website or the Post Gazette.

Since the pirates are out in full force do any of you guys know why Dumatrait isn't in the mlb? He was pretty solid last year.

I think he is recovering from surgery on his shoulder (I could be wrong, he might just be injured). Either way he will be starting the season on IR. I'm not sure how you guys plan to handle guys that are actually starting a season on the IR, I figured just put them in AAA. There are two guys looking to take his spot, Meek and Bootcheck, Meek has the edge in stats this spring. I like both though. It's also possible the Pirates keep Davis as a long relief option instead of Meek or Bootcheck.

EDIT, Bootcheck is capable of pitching a couple of innings of relief as well. If Meek doesn't make the team he'll likely be the closing pitcher for the AAA club instead of Chavez and Chavez will move to RP.

2nd EDIT, By the way, if you guys need more detailed info on these guys just let me know what players you need. I have basic information like height, weight, age, batting side, throwing arm, jersey number, 2nd positions as well as more detailed information like scouting reports on most of them.
