Re: Made my own ratings calculator

    Guys,

I put this calculator together last year using Banhzo and TripleThreats formulas. Mucho credit to them. I use the ZIPS projected stats. It is already set up where you can plug a roster in and print it on legal paper. Let me know what you think. Not trying to steal the OP's thunder by any means, but reading this thread got me fired up enough to get back after it. I have put in Baltimore's roster as a starting example. It can sometimes take time to load. Try these in your sims and let me know how they turn out. You could plug in the pitcher data from mav and crew to get a great ratings editor.

Using the ZiPS projections, I calculated percentiles, based on the projections, for Baserunning Aggressiveness and Baserunning Speed.

For aggressiveness, I used % of extra bases taken (for major league players) and the jump component of speed score (for everyone) with regression toward the mean for the minor leaguers (to take into account that I didn't have xb% for them).

For speed, the number given is the percentile of speed based on speed score.

Is there a way to put in other rosters?

Edit: Nevermind, found it out. Glad it has ratings for minor league players too...

Re: Made my own ratings calculator

            Just ran a sim w/ Trades & Injuries on with rascoc's projections & DSzymborski's BR #'s....

            Young - 162 G, .287 AVG, 11 HR, 63 RBI, .403 SLG, 5 SB, 3 CS, 68 BB, 126 K
            Moreland - 162 G, .286 AVG, 15 HR, 79 RBI, .409 SLG, 17 SB, 6 CS, 62 BB, 105 K
            Andrus - 149 G, .306 AVG, 0 HR, 35 RBI, .382 SLG, 60 SB, 23 CS, 65 BB, 102 K
            Hamilton - 141 G, .288 AVG, 31 HR, 114 RBI, .529 SLG, 17 SB, 12 CS, 59 BB, 108 K
            Beltre - 140 G, .308 AVG, 24 HR, 101 RBI, .514 SLG, 17 SB, 8 CS, 38 BB, 83 K
            Kinsler - 137 G, .289 AVG, 18 HR, 80 RBI, .484 SLG, 45 SB, 14 CS, 68 BB, 85 K
            Murphy - 133 G, .273 AVG, 16 HR, 79 RBI, .436 SLG, 22 SB, 12 CS, 44 BB, 94 K
            Cruz - 110 G, .261 AVG, 20 HR, 59 RBI, .472 SLG, 14 SB, 5 CS, 42 BB, 105 K
            Napoli - 104 G, .272 AVG, 17 HR, 71 RBI, .474 SLG, 10 SB, 3 CS, 46 BB, 96 K
            Gentry - 102 G, .231 AVG, 3 HR, 32 RBI, .342 SLG, 32 SB, 10 CS, 23 BB, 59 K
            Gonzalez - 75 G, .190 AVG, 1 HR, 11 RBI, .239 SLG, 5 SB, 1 CS, 14 BB, 46 K
            Torrealba - 73 G, .277 AVG, 2 HR, 21 RBI, .293 SLG, 5 SB, 2 CS, 26 BB, 37 K
            Martin - 58 G, .274 AVG, 0 HR, 14 RBI, .360 SLG, 21 SB, 7 CS, 21 BB, 30 K

One thing that really pops out are the high SB #'s. Andrus with 60, Kinsler w/ 45...Hell even Beltre had 17.

Keep in mind I just edited Texas' #'s...HR's are still looking good under DM's system.

            HR Leaders:
            1. Pena - 39
            2. Fielder - 38
            2. A-Gon - 38
            4. Trumbo - 37
            5. Wells - 36
            6. Ortiz/Granderson/Bautista - 34

            Other Notables: Pujols (33), Hamilton (31), Youkilis/Reynolds (30), Tex (29), V-Mart/Konerko/Cabrera (27)

I only have enough information to give you the percentiles.

Do you have a spreadsheet of a Show roster with the ratings? If I have a known distribution of game ratings, I can model the ratings.

Unfortunately I don't...I'm not sure how Baserunning Ability/Baserunning Aggression affect SB's. SCEA hasn't given a formula or anything, which makes it more difficult to calculate.

                But based on my simulation...
                Andrus - 80 SPD, 93 BR-AGG, 79 BR-ABILITY (STOCK RATING) - 60 SB, 23 CS--83 total attempts
                Kinsler - 81 SPD, 90 BR-AGG, 95 BR-ABILITY (STOCK RATING) - 45 SB, 14 CS--59 total attempts
                Beltre - 26 SPD, 47 BR-AGG, 25 BR-ABILITY (STOCK RATING) - 17 SB, 8 CS--25 total attempts

                Real Life Projections:
                Andrus - 37 SB, 13 CS - 50 attempts
                Kinsler - 25 SB, 5 CS - 30 attempts
                Beltre - 4 SB, 1 CS - 5 attempts

In this small sample, they are stealing basically twice as much as they should, or in Beltre's case 5 times.

Do you know if there are any spreadsheets of stock ratings out there or even a roster set that has worked? We don't necessarily need to know exactly how SCEA made the calculation, just the ratings they gave themselves.

I used to use sb percentage/2 as the rating. Also, take the leader in sb attempts and divide a players number into his, and then X 50% for agg. I had all the 2011 fielding stats put in, but it took it so long to calculate them, I deleted that part (using Banzho and TT formulas).

                      Hey scott,

With Opening day rosters coming out on Wednesday....how long would it take you to input these? Also is there any changes to any of the pitchers, or do those all seem good?

Last question is if you do put these on the vault, what name will they be under....thank you again

I implemented these changes into the game last night... Using the ratings from this calculator, the top 10 offenses in the The Show matched to the top 10 offenses in the MLB last year (Well except for the Cardinals they were at 13)...

                              Very nicely done DM!!!
