It is not random but based on your pitcher's ratings. For me, this is more realistic and better sim. Plus, I don't like having that meter on the screen. I would rather watch my pitcher windup and throw than watch a meter. But if you enjoy it, keep at it. That is why it is an option.

What I mean is you still are picking spots and power amount. That along with the starting location of the pitch still puts you in control. You can throw the same pitch (say Curve ball) and put different speeds on it and get different results. It's not randon at all like you make it sound like. You do have control over where the ball is going. Then ratings come into play and finish the "results" of the pitch.
I don't want a meter in the middle to stare at. Takes away from the experience IMO.

I want to try Classic pitching but am not sure exactly what is entailed. What I mean is after I push the button to start the windup, do you need to push it again at release? Do you need to hold it for more power? How do you guys do it?

          Sorry for the threadjack Pared!

Windup begins, the longer you hold, the more velocity, but the more difficult it is to hit your spots.

              Re: Pared's Gameplay Sliders!

I love these sliders....but one question for you guys, are you playing with guess pitch on or off? I just played with it off and thought I was going to be shutdown...but I ended up with with 8 hits and 2 bombs ( no power swing ) and lost on an 11th inning 2 run walkoff homerun by Adam Dunn. Great sliders Pared, I was really impressed.

Great sliders, Pared! After being a little too hit happy on All-Star I tried these and they really did the trick. Walks, K's, hr's, hits, all seem to be happening at very realistic levels, and it offers a really good challenge.

I'll post some game stats, and if anyone else has them, post 'em too. Love seeing what other people are getting.

Well, I just played a game, my Rockies vs. Mets and the sliders played well. I drew 3 walks. Here is the box score

                      Rox 4 12 0
                      Mets 5 11 0

I had a 3 nothing lead until the 5th when the Mets scored 4. They picked up one more in the 8th. In the 9th, I hit a homer off of Wagner to pull within 1 but that was it.

By the way, I use Classic pitching.

All sliders start in the middle... what we will call "0" for the sake of understanding. Clicks are either to the left (-) or to the right (+). Anything not listed does not get changed.

The game plays great out of the box. These sliders should lessen the amount of hits you get per game, giving you a more realistic box score. It also helps alleviate some problems, like the CPU trying to pick you off constantly on a one step lead, too many user triples, and so forth. I will be updating these as I test more... but things are looking good so far.
