    Re: Edwy's AllStar Sliders

pberardi: I am using the Reds, and I was using the pitch speed at default prior to zone hitting and was getting merely singles. Now that I am using zone hitting I am seeing a variety of hits.

What team are you using? - that matters when it comes to sliders also.
The reason why my sliders are at Pitch Speed 4, is because when I first started playing with the default Pitch Speed at 10, fastballs would whizz right by me. I couldnt hit a fastball for the life of me, it was just going to damn fast...without me knowing if it was in the zone or not, with it at 4, i am now at least able to foul off a fastball, instead of the CPU whizzing fastballs right by me. Guess I just have a late reaction time

Oh yes and also now that I remember, I used to have Pitch Speed at 5, but for some reason I played about 5 games, and would not get enough hits for the user or CPU, it would result in 15 innings or more of 0-0 scores or 1-1 scores, so I lowered it and now am able to get some good hits in.

I like lower pitch speed. I think 4 is perfect. I can read pitches better, pull the ball and layoff pitches off the plate. I can draw more walks with 4 or lower. Pitch speed at 10 for me is too fast.

          Re: Edwy's AllStar Sliders

I just started using these sliders last night, since i restarted my Franchise with the new rosters. I Must say...it has been the most realistic games so far. No more 15+ hit games with 4 HR's a piece per team. One thing I was wondering about however, with Contact at 0, I am only hitting little dribbling ground balls and soft line drives, if you could even call it a line drive to a SS or 2B. If i bumped up the contact a little bit, would it totally throw my realistic games off you think?

I am slowly starting to learn Zone hitting. Which leads me to ask, on All-Star mode, do I just use the L Stick inside, outside,up, and down? Or is it up and away, low and inside...etc?

          Thanks!!

Im averaging around 10 hits a game but with only 5 or less runs which im very happy with that, not too many hits, getting some good solid fun games, while keeping my player stats and boxscores as realistic as possible.

Report: Using contact at 0, power at 8. Won 7-3. Had 12 hits, 2 doubles, 1 triple, no HR's. Noticed I was able to get 2 line drive singles with men on base only using "X". It took me 4 innings before I got my first hit. Did see plenty of weak grounders but not many pop ups. Got to the relief pitcher and lowered his confidence so most of my hits came over 2 innings.

I have a theory that higher power may assist in more hits with "X" as I did use "X" alot. CPU was getting me down 0-2, 1-2 so I was defensive. I had more success with the power swing as well. At 5 the power swing resulted in pop flies. At 8, I noticed more line drives and some gap doubles. I will play tomorrow with power at 5 and see what I get.

Could be I'm timing Allstar better so power at 5 may be good enough. So insummation I noticed:

Better hits with X only swing with 8 and power swing led to more extra base hits. Will try with 5 tomorrow.

Anyway, If I start winning too much, I'll lower to 5 or 6. Boxscore was in line with 7 runs.

How many hits are you getting per game? Im assuming your getting possibly less than 5, I recommend you practice a bit more with the Zone hitting, you need to use the L-stick on everything: outside, up, low and inside, high and outside, etc, except when the balls coming dead center you leave the L-stick alone.

Too get good practice using the L-stick, go to the gameplay options and when it says "Plate Coverage Indicator" turn it on, what you see is a yellow oval on your strike zone, that is Zone hitting. When the ball comes at you, you want to aim the oval dead center of the ball coming at you, when you do that and your timing is perfect, you will get a good hit. If you dont get the ball coming near your oval, then you will either foul off, get a bad hit, swinging strike, or something to that matter. Basically the more center you put that indicator on the ball coming at you, the better contact you'll have.

Im going to try with power at 7 now, I just got out of a game Astros vs. Reds, lots of stuff happened, but basically at the end of the 9th it was 5-5, then went into extra innings, I couldnt get anything going for any of my guys. And the game finally ended in the bottom of the 20th inning, with the Reds winning it in a HR 6-5. Reds had 4 HRs that game and I had 0. However I had 18 hits and the Reds had 13. So im going to experiment for a couple of games

Thanks alot for your help Edwy. I will try that. And another thank you is definitly called-for, for the work you have done on these sliders. I have just found this site, and I must say, I'm ecstatic. No longer do I have to use the "other" ones with the immature 13yr olds arguing over their favorite teams!! KUDOS!!

The beauty of this game is even if you have power at 20, you will go games without hitting HR's. There are alot of variables such as the CPU's pitchers confidence level. Fastball thrown with the confidence level high may very well result in a grounder, the same pitch thrown with confidence low and your hitting the same pitch for a double. I will try power @ 5 and we can compare. It doesn't seem like your struggling with power.

Anyway, I feel certain that power should not exceed default (10). Anywhere from 5-10 should be good enough at this level.

Im not sure what is the problem, Im averaging a good amount of hits per game, but can't seem to get the HRs. Ive been playing with power at 5 for a long time now. Im looking at the real world stats of my ballclub and they have way more HRs then the ones in my game. I think I might have to test out the Contact Slider instead...we'll see.

Yes, I agree that HR's seem to be rare occurance. Perhaps a combo of con/power is needed. By I seriously doubt it needs a major overhaul.

Played a game tonight, finally got two HR's using the "power" swing. They were both on low fastballs. I was using contact 3, power 7. Also got one double. They came against a relief pitcher. However, I had 13 hits on only 5 runs. Obviously, I need about 10 games to determine if I need a combo of some contact and power. I also had a good variety of hits. Pop flies, grounders, so more power does not eliminate weak hit from poor contact.
