Just out of curiosity, how many HRs are you averaging a game with these settings?

I've played 5 games in my Tiger season with these and have hit 6 HRs. I've given up 5 HRs so its right on the money as most teams average just over 1 HR per game.

But I'm a bad hitter. You might hit a lot of them.

Im actually not that good a hitter this year. Last year I was playing on HOF and I averaged about a HR a game. This year, on All Star, I started a franchise with the Yanks and in 8 games I have hit a total of 3 (2 with Cano and 1 with Damon). I just can't seem to time it right. Right now i have Pitch speed at 4 (-1) and Power at 8 (+3) and can't get anything going. I will give your sliders a shot and see what happens.

          Classic pitching tips from Nemesis:

          Full motion

Keeping the X button pressed down, let up at three different points of the pitcher's windup to determine velocity.

Slow velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher just starts his leg lift.

Medium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is at his max leg lift.

Maximum velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher finishes his leg lift and brings his leg towards the plate.

          From the stretch

Slow velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is in mid lift of his motion.

Medium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is in mid stride towards home.

Maxium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher has planted his foot towards home and is just starting to bring his arm forward to release the pitch.

Note: If you hold the X button through the entire pitcher's motion you will have max velocity and break but you will lose control and the ball will track away from your desired location.

I think I'm getting decent home runs because I've minimized the cpu pitch control. That's it (and lower pitch speed doesn't hurt either). You don't really need to mess with the power slider to hit home runs because if you hit it well, it will leave the yard.

At default pitch control, the cpu really paints corners well and doesn't make many mistakes. When the cpu is hitting his spots, hitting home runs is very difficult. When you drop the control slider, they start missing their spots and a few will end up in the heart of the plate. You can only hope that you take advantage and blast them!

Re: MLB 09 All-Star Sliders for the bad hitter/good pitcher

I'm a bit of a liar. I'm not walking guys as much as I thought (only 7 through 5 games) although my ERA isn't exactly pretty. I give in a little too much. Here are some stats for my batters and pitchers through 5 games.

                BATTERS

                PITCHERS

I'm not making any changes though. Going to play another 5 games and see how those look. I might start a Reds season as well.

Played a game with these sliders last night and liked the flow of the game. Although you might not be walking a lot of guys that could be why your ERA is so high LOL. I tend not to walk a lot of batters, but like you my ERA reflects that as I catch too much of the plate.

Hey rudy, i just tried your sliders and in 2 games the game plays really good. I played the first 2 ST games in my franchise with the Yanks and hit 2 HRs. 1 with Arod and 1 with Matsui. The only thing that I might increase fielder speed. But before I do that i want to get in a few more games.

                    Ill keep you posted.

I'm walking around 2 per game with these.
Only changes I had to make was lowering solid hits for both by 1 and lowered contact for the CPU down to 4. With their contact even with mine it was getting rather difficult and frustrating to try pitching carefully around the plate. Even the scrubs in the 8th inning of spring training games were making me look silly, and I need no help with that. They wouldn't swing if it was way off but when it was just near the corner they were crushing the ball. I needed to even it out a little.
Any thoughts on this are welcome.

Whatever works for you. Are you using Meter or Classic? Meter is harder so you may need to make adjustments accordingly.

I haven't hit that well the last three games. I have played two games with the Reds and Johan Santana pitched a complete game shutout against me. Only got 4 hits, 0 walks and 8 Ks. Lost 4-0. They worked my starting pitcher for 88 pitches through 4 innings. I got out of a bases loaded, nobody out jam without giving up a run in the 2nd though!

Maine dominated me in the second game and after giving up 5 runs to start the game, the game was over early and only a few fans were left at the end of the game to witness my 8-3 defeat. I walked three batters in that game but the first inning killed me. Even Santana got a hit off me (only pitcher hit allowed in two games).

I kind of agree with you about the scrubs knocking me out of the park. Im really loving these sliders though. I was going to increase fielder speed but after playing a few more games i like it the way it is. Im thinking about doing 1 of 2 things:

                          1) Reduce CPU contact to default or to 4 (-1) at most
                          2) Go to meter pitching and increase my pithcer control to default. (I was reading the description for the contact slider and it suggests that if you increase contact to also increase pitcher control.)

Im leaning towards the second one since I have a better understanding of meter pitching. All in all, these are kick a## sliders.

Clearly Im going to have to adopt your User Contact at 6 because there were a lot of instances in my first game that guys were somehow missing pitches but the bat should have made some sort of contact. I didnt play the demo so this was my first game and so far I like the game, Peavy damn near no hit me as I finally broke through in the 9th with a double from Ethier but other then that I was abysmal. Clearly I need to practice the hitting as its so different from last year that its tough to get a grasp on with only playing one game now, I struck out 21 times, 27 outs and 21 of those were strikeouts, thats ****ing pathetic. I did walk 5 times atleast but the strikeouts were just so high that clearly I was destined to lose, of which I did 4-1.

The only changes Ive made so far are...

                            USER
                            RP Stamina (0)

                            CPU
                            RP Stamina (0)
                            Pitch Count (0)
                            Strike Frequency (1)

                            GLOBAL
                            Fielding Errors (8)

You dont find yourself getting too many hits with contact at 6? You and I play the same in terms of batting, swing only, so Im anxious to hear some details of what you see when playing this way using contact at 6. Thanks in advance.

Early on I thought I might be getting too many but I've absolutely sucked lately. Four games into my Reds season and I'm batting .191. Ugly! The Mets swept me to start the season. Here are the series stats from that one.

I then beat Pittsburgh 1-0 in a pitcher's duel. My eye at the plate is beyond terrible right now. I need to stop swinging out of my *** and show some discipline.

All Right I am attempting everything to save this game including now getting into the sliders. I have tried Rudy's for 3 games and I have had about 2 hits in each game. I am not striking out a whole lot...that is about 8 per game. I am getting a lot of Pop ups and weak fly balls. Anyway to fix that??
