Re: MLB 09 All-Star Sliders for the bad hitter/good pitcher

If I can ever find the energy to fire the game up I think Im going to try raising the Pitch Control to 2 for CPU and leave everything else where I have it and see what happens.

Hey Rudy, at any point in your testing, did you possibly test a setup close to or the same as the following...

      CPU Pitcher Control (5)
      Strike Frequency (1)
      CPU Consistency (3)

Im wondering if control at default works only when lowering the consistency slider, but Im then nervous that the amount of passed balls and wils pitches will spring up again and irritate me all over.

You might be right but the passed balls already seem a bit high. I'm not sure how those two sliders work together. If you are trying that, let me know how it works for you.

I was tempted but I cant do it, unless these sliders are a complete bag of **** then lowering the pitcher consistency will only surrender more wild pitches and when I was seeing too many at default already I cant do it. If anything I might try raising strike frequency back to default, leave consistency at 6 and raise control to 2 and see if I can still draw walks without the luxury of always getting a first pitch ball while reducing the hanging pitches that the CPU throws from time to time. For the record, for my next game Im going to try the following and I will let you know what I see......

          CPU Pitch Control (2)
          CPU Strike Frequency (5)
          CPU Pitcher Consistency (6)

All 3 Games no Homerun both sides...!!!

            * Guess Pitch- I started with off...than with default...not getting homeruns at all...than i changed to classic 1/4..but that to easy...now at classic 1/6 i get enough walks but no homeruns at all too! I don´t know what i should do there....when the guess is right and i move to bat there, never get a brillant hit for a homer.

** Pitch Speed..i started with 0...i don´t get homers..than i moved it up to 3 because i thought my timing isn´t good because the ball fly too slow..but on 3 same results as on 0

*** Contact i moved up because of the homers i wann..also no better result

            **** Power i moved up to 7 but same...now back to 6

I get sick about not getting homeruns...last year i played with nemenis04 sliders on all-star perfectly!

I played games with the reds, the white sox, cubs, diamonbacks and the yankees before..same result...no homeruns for me at all..for the cpu 0-1 not more!

Who can help me to get my sliders where they should be to play a solid realistic game?

Re: MLB 09 All-Star Sliders for the bad hitter/good pitcher

The power slider doesn't really help you hit home runs. It just increases how far the ball will go. If you get a hold of a pitch, the ball will be a HR at 5 or 10 for power. You are getting a decent amount of hits abstractum but just not seeing enough extra base power. I would boost the solid hits slider for yourself and the cpu about 2-3 notches to the right. Heck, boost it all the way to 10 and play a couple games. If it's too much back it down between 5 and 10. I think that's the best way to create more home runs for you.

If you find that it gives you too many hits you might want to back off the contact slider as you raise the solid hit slider.

                  1st time poster...yay!

anyway, tried your slider settings and they seem pretty good...only thing i had to tweak was the CPU contact up a tad (from 6 to 7) due to their lack of hits...after playing 6 games, i'm right in the middle of the pack with avg, hr, rbi, etc...

on the pitching end, i'm in the top 5 in walks allowed, era, k's, etc...

regarding walks, i've found it's MUCH easier to see the pitches coming in when using the "wide" view instead of the "catcher" view...i'm getting about 5-6 walks per game...

thanks for the slider settings...so far so good!...

Sounds good. I switched from catcher to wide last year but have stuck with catcher this year.

Hey Rudy, any new tweaks or are the sliders on the first page what you're going forward with barring any sort of gameplay patch.

Actually, I'm going to drop cpu contact down to default. I'm just getting hit too hard after 30 games. Also, I think I'm going to boost human solid hits up a notch. I just suck at hitting right now and am not getting enough runs. Those will be the first changes to the pitching or hitting sliders I have made. I'm going to be 7-15 in my Reds season and I think I need to start making a subtle boost. I've resisted changes simply because I don't want to play the slider tweak game too much. The only reason I had the cpu contact boosted in the first place was because of the demo (I actually had them at 10 since they sucked a lot more in the demo).

The other change I made was to boost pitcher stamina a little more for the user. I will update the first post.

Arm strength may be too strong still but I don't want to mess with the arm strength vs. baserunner speed vs. base stealing stuff I would have to get into if I drop it any more. Blzer might have some good settings if people want to try those.

Thanks Rudy...I had already dropped the CPU Contact and was trying to figure out my run problem. I had increased the User Timing by a notch, thinking I'd get more hits, but I'll have to try upping the Solid Hits instead.

As for the Global edits, try out Skyboxer's. His sliders last year on All Star were fantastic, and having input his Global edits (even though he plays on Legend) I'm getting what I believe are good results.

I think my biggest problem is really lacking patience and discipline at the plate. Since I barely walk, my on base percentage is horrible and that hurts the run production. I'm still hoping I somehow improve although that's looking less and less likely.

I've only played 2 games with these sliders, but I really like them so far. Playing as the Tribe, got drilled 10-2 in the season opener, only to come back in game 2 with a 3-0 shutout win.

As you can see I'm struggling on offense a little bit (batting .204), but Hafner has hit 2 HRs & I did manage to draw 6 walks in game 2! My problem is that when I'm drawing more walks I tend to not hit as well. Seems like it shouldn't be that way, as I'm being more selective.

I'm sort of the same way. When you are more selective, I find I will be a little late on the fastball at times and miss some great pitches to hit. The "hack away" philosophy can lead to more home runs but some really bad games where you swing at a bunch of crap out of the zone and get overly frustrated.

I'm 15-20 with the Reds right now. My pitching has improved as I've adapted more to my staff although my biggest problem on offense if Jay Bruce whose only batting about .183 with three home runs. Ouch! I really need him to get going if I'm going to make a push to get over .500.
