Re: DrUrsus All-Star Sliders to draw walks, be selective & CPU plays "fairer" game

I'm now trying out your sliders and last game I won 2-1 versus the yankees! and i play as the braves, and i have been playing on veteran, but bumped it to all-star for your sliders, and i must say i'm pretty impressed, but i think baserunner speed is too slow at 5, i was watching the braves tonight and watching how fast baserunners get from 1st to home on a double to the outfield, and in the game i can't get anyone on 1st to home on a double. So i bumped baserunner speed to 7. I also hate all the caught stealing in this game. I mean i think the success rate should be way higher so i turned up the baserunning ability to 7 also. i mean i'm not gonna steal all that much (since i play w/ the braves...LOL) but when i do i expect success. The braves actually do have a high success rate this year even though they don't steal all that much. But please do tell me if you think this will slant the game in my favor for some reason, i don't want that. But like i said i won't be taking advantage of this, but the CPU can since it's a global setting. So If you think i should leave all the baserunning attributes at 5 please do tell me why, since you have the experience and you have created a very nice set of sliders i will defer to you

Great job on these sliders. I'm actually using a combination of yours and Psycho's sliders as they are quite similar.

I had become frustrated with this game recently, but decided to give it one more shot (I play on PS2) and these sliders are gold, Jerry, gold!

I'm running a franchise with the Rockies and am 1-2 so far. Threw a 2-hit shutout with Ubaldo Jimenez, striking out 12. All three games have been a lot of fun and I've got a renewed passion for the game.

Thanks again.

I'm glad to hear these are working out for ya. It's all about fun, and I definitely have been having that with these. I haven't played in about a week now due to being too busy, and I am starting to go through "withdrawal".

By the way, I'm a BIG Seinfeld fan, so thanks for the reference to it!, lol.

I like to play multiple seasons & got a late start waiting for rosters and trying different slider sets, so I'm only playing one (& rarely 2) games per series. I make sure to mark down the dates of the games I personally played so I can compile stats later.

In the games I played, I started out 4-11 with your sliders, but have won 4 of the last 5 to raise my record to 8-12 in my Indians franchise. I'm dragging the team down, as the team's record in simulated games is far better.

I had one amazing game this weekend that I already mentioned in another thread. I was trailing KC 11-2 in the 8th inning. I managed to score 4 in the 8th & then 5 in the 9th, tying up the game 11-11 on a Ryan Garko grand slam with nobody out. That's right -- I somehow scored 9 runs while making only 3 outs! But then all of a sudden I couldn't do anything on offense and wound up losing 12-11 in 12 innings.

I also had a game that I won 2-1 in 15 innings, so its not like all my games are slugfests. I'll have to compile my stats when I have a chance. I do think both the CPU & I are generating a little bit too much offense. However, my pitching has improved lately as I've changed my approach a bit while using classic pitching. With anyone who throws <95mph, I rarely throw anything in the upper half of the strike zone. Another big key for me is throwing inside more to keep hitter's off balance. Its nice to see some broken bats & awkward swings when I jam hitters with inside fastballs.

Thanks again for coming up with these!
Wow, what an amazing game! Too bad you lost. I had one similar to that, but luckily came out on top in 20 innings!, lol.

Yea, I know what you mean about the CS. I lead the league in that category by a LOT! I always get a good leadoff too, and get thrown out or picked off by catchers with poor arms too, lol. I don't have the problem going from 2nd to home. It is very easy to get a 2 step or 3 step leadoff from 2nd on the CPU if they are not near 2nd base and this helps.
I really think that sliders are for your personal enjoyment, so if that is helping the game play more realistically for you, I don't think it will slant the game in your favor too much. If you find you always score too easy or steal too many bases then you will have to make adjustments. It's all really trial and error. I spent a lot of time playing real season games to come up with these sliders with the help of pbz, the Chef, and of course Psychobulk, so it is just what worked out good for how I play, and is a good starting point for many people and then they can tweak.
At least it helps to get a starting point so that people don't have to start at default like a lot of us did and take forever to settle on some personal sliders, lol. I restarted my season/franchise so many times until I found just the right sliders for me and I am glad that it is good for others too.

I'm getting ready to go on vacation in a couple of days, so I'll be taking a break from the PS2 version. Thankfully, I've got a copy of 08 for my PSP so that will suffice for a week.

I'm 3-7 with the Rockies. Your Cubs blasted me 19-4 after Ubaldo beat them 4-3. It's liking my timing is still a bit off, but one thing I've noticed so far is that my HR's are really low. As a team, we have only 3 HR's, which is last in the league by a wide margin. Batting average, hits and doubles.

Glad you enjoyed the Seinfeld reference.

Re: DrUrsus All-Star Sliders to draw walks, be selective & CPU plays "fairer" game

The CPU & I have each been averaging around 1.3-1.4 HRs per game. Played a game this weekend with the wind blowing out to left center of Progressive Field @ 12mph. Wow, what a huge difference that made! It probably didn't help that I had Aaron Laffey starting too. CPU hit 7 HRs against me (I think 6 of these were in the first 3 innings). I hit 6 HRs myself, but ended up losing 13-9. Travis Hafner hit one 456 feet to dead center.

I've been really struggling with this game. Personal record is now 10-16. I have no problem on offense. My team is hitting .311 in games I play, and my strikeouts per game (5.0) would be lowest in the league by far -- I haven't been struck out in 2 of my last 3 games, so I dropped the contact slider down by 1. My team ERA is atrocious -- 5.65. Hard to say whether I'm that bad or its just the Indians' pitching.

Like many other people in this thread, I have been completely frustrated with this game. I gave up playing it, then I started researching sliders and decided to give yours a shot. I must say it brought life back into the game for me, now I am having close games (had a walk off home run with Kevin Youkilis, what a rush!) and actually have the ability to win now. Just wanted to say thanks for the great work and making this game playable again!

Yea, the wind really seems to make a difference in HRs especially lower HRs in April it seems in outdoor stadiums. And I believe I have the wind at default. I actually love those wind blowing out games, lol.
I was hitting .298 for a while, but had a terrible OBP so it kind of evened out I guess. OBP will always be a problem with baseball games you play since it is so user dependent. They'll throw 3 straight balls and you figure its going to be an easy walk, and then they throw 2 straight strikes and a borderline strike for a strikeout, lol. Frustrating. The only game that you actually played that had this aspect down well was High Heat Baseball on the xbox/ps2 it seems.

I then went on a really really cold spell and my average dropped down to .287.

Keep on truckin' brotha.

Hmmm, I think it's a visual option, can't remember where. You can leave it ON, but I just like not knowing if a ball is a HR or not.
