[quote=tree3five;2042257560]I know what ZOne hitting is, but do you personally move the cursor or do you personally just press x to swing and thats it?...quote]

Even if you don't like moving the cursor around too much, zone hitting is still the way to go. I move the cursor probably 5 batters per game only; and that is just moving it a hair down to avoid grounding into double plays; or moving it a hair up to keep the ball low on hit and runs.

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk ***The Perfect Slider Set 2011 Edition***

TNK and Pyscho - as we are getting closer to opening day, I was wondering if you are considering lowering the power slider to 4 for both human and cpu? I'm currently on HOF with pitch speed at 3, timing only and using your hitting sliders (5,5,5,2) and seeing a few too many homers. My total hits seem okay, just a few too many dingers. I just finished playing 6 innings as the Yanks against the Twins - the score was 6-5 Twins and I had 6 hits - 3 of the homers.

      So 3 questions:

      1) are you considering lowering power to 4 for both cpu and human?
      2) if you lower the power slider would that completey zap the power
from the non-power guys like Jeter and Gardner?
      3) If I was to lower power to 4 as a result of roo many homers, should I
increase solid hits to 3 to compensate?

Increase your pitch speed to default (5) Darwin...or at least try 4.

On 5 i hit a perfectly acceptable rate of homers, i can only imagine how many more i would hit if i slowed the pitches down even more.

I suggest trying that before fiddling with sliders because then you are getting too far away from the numbers the set is supposed to be.

p.s. yes, i use timing hitting

Thanks Psycho. Last year I was on Legend hitting with pitch speed at 4. This year I find pitch speed much faster (or I'm one year older!!), I've just worked myself up to 3 on HOF and it is very challenging for me. I have a lot of trouble identifying location and pitch-type at 3 - almost to a point where I swing at everything. I can't even come close to 95-mph fastballs on the corners. I use timing as well.

Do you find pitch speed to be a lot faster this year?

Truthfully no i cant say i do, i probably just see the CPU pitchers trying to paint corners this year more than ever though so that of course impacts things.

Maybe give 4 a go for a few games then, just to see?

              Darwin,
Here's the thing - you are using HOF difficulty and a pitch speed of 3. You are obviously going to hit pitches easier when pitch speed is 3. We can't adjust the power slider because a guy rakes on pitch speed 3 when our sliders are calling for pitch speed 4 or 5 which makes it tougher to hit than 3. I think the reason you are seeing so many HR is because you have more time to identify the pitch/location and tee off on the thing.
Now, if you want to stay at 3 and drop your power slider down - go right ahead....but we aren't changing the set for that.

Wind blowing out to center 5 mph. I know this is very possible, but I've been seeing a lot of my runs scored from home runs. I'm not concerned so much with CPU homeruns as this is the one of the only games i've played in about 20 games where they have had more than 2, but it seems like I am consistently scoring most of my runs from home runs. I prob avg 3 a game and it's not like I am tearing the cover off the ball; maybe avg 8-10 hits a game. I've been using zone. I am primarily using power swings in hitter's counts and contact swings in defensive situations. To be honest, I did not even know X was a "normal" swing until reading the posts above. Any thoughts?
You should be using the normal swing "X" 90% of the time.......you're obviously going top hit more HR if you are using the power swing button to swing out of your shoes a lot.

I honestly haven't had issues with stealing. I've had steals and been thrown out, likewise for the CPU

I only manged to play two games last night, so I'm going to stick with timing for a few more games before I switch. I think my excitement got the better of me last night as I had over 10 strike outs in my games. Usually I'm a patient hitter but maybe I was trying a little too hard.

Do you find you get more of a variety of hits using zone hitting?

Yes - definitely better hit variety.......I honestly recommend ditching Timing and just focus on Zone, that's the only way you are gonna get better

I can totally agreed with TNK here!!! I've recently switched over to zone hitting and am seeing an awesome variety of hits and very believable hits relative to where the pitch crosses the plate and how I swing at it (pci location). The balls contact within the PCI makes sense after evaluating the resulting hit placement. It's just jaw dropping for me........I've seen screaming liners hit on a rope that hit the outfiled wall on the fly, towering pop ups, looping liners, high chopped grounders for hits, bloop singles over the infielders heads, deep shots over the outfielder's head and pretty much everything in between. Now if I could only string some of those hit types together and score some runs, i'd be in heaven......LOL!!!

Zone hitting is definitely the way to go with batting IMO!!!

I find I hit more homers with just using a normal swing, and even contact swing with some big HR hitters.
The contact window tends to get so small using power swing that if you're not right on with your swing you wont have much success.
A little more room for error with normal swing.

I've only used Timing Hitting as I've had problems drawing walks. I used to swing way too much and it was very frustrating.
Now I've calmed down and started taking more pitches. I've even taken a few called strike three's that I'm actually satisfied with. I believe I drew four walks in a game yesterday which I think is a new record for me. I still didn't win the game though .

I drew two walks in my last game, a 4-1 win with the Rangers over the Angels. I struck out the last five batters. Neftali Feliz felt fantastic to pitch with.

I do like the idea of using the contact swing method to stay alive. I'll let you know how I get on!

I like Timing too much to change to Zone. After playing with Zone for so many years now I'm a little tired of it.

And I just had another great game. Rockies v Dodgers (me).
                                It was all about pitching.
I got a hit in the first inning, but I would have to wait over an hour to get my next baserunner. Jhoulys Chacin dominated me. I did hit a few balls hard but they just wouldn't fall. 8.0 innings, 1 hit, 1 BB and 8 K's.

But I had Chad Billingsley on the mound and he had no plans on losing. 9.0 innings, 4 hits, 2 BB and 3 K's.
The Rockies had a great opportunity to score in the 7th with runners on first and second with one out. Then they decided to try a hit-and-run on a 2-1 count. It caught me by surprise, but Stewart got a horrible jump at second and I threw him out easily. Then I got a ground ball to end the inning.

In the 11th inning they had a runner at second with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts saved me.
In the bottom of the 11th I finally got my second hit of the game.
With one out Gibbons hit a triple over the head of Smith in RF.
The very next pitch reached the backstop and I won the game on a wild pitch.
2 hits in 11 innings but I still won.

A problem I've had with previous version of The Show has been getting about the same amount of hits in every single game. So far with these sliders, every game has been a completely new experience.
I haven't seen a single throwing error by the CPU though. How many do you guys usually see?
