Re: TNK & PsychoBulk ***The Perfect Slider Set 2011 Edition***

Batting on All-Star (zone, not moving PCI) and pitching on HOF (meter) has worked very well for me. I think I'll stick to that hitting style until I move up to HOF (if that happens, that is). I think the sweet spot might become too small on HOF to just leave the PCI in the middle? I don't know, just a thought.

Here are my last five games.
I played as the home teams.

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/osdyn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"><table class="osdyn" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" width="575"><tbody><tr class="masthead"><td colspan="13" align="center">COL at LAD - Dodger Stadium</td></tr><tr class="stathead"><td width="40%">Sep 29, 2011</td><td align="right" width="5%">1</td><td align="right" width="5%">2</td><td align="right" width="5%">3</td><td align="right" width="5%">4</td><td align="right" width="5%">5</td><td align="right" width="5%">6</td><td align="right" width="5%">7</td><td align="right" width="5%">8</td><td align="right" width="5%">9</td><td align="right" width="5%">R</td><td align="right" width="5%">H</td><td align="right" width="5%">E</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Colorado Rockies (87-75)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td class="active" align="right">1</td><td align="right">6</td><td align="right">0</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Los Angeles Dodgers (87-75)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td class="active" align="right">0</td><td align="right">6</td><td align="right">1</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td colspan="13" align="center">W: Jhoulys Chacin (11-9) L: Hiroki Kuroda (11-11) S: Huston Street (54)</td></tr></tbody></table>

The game to decide the winner of the NL West. Pitchers' duel to the end, very exciting game.

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/osdyn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"><table class="osdyn" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" width="575"><tbody><tr class="masthead"><td colspan="13" align="center">CHW at NYY - Yankee Stadium</td></tr><tr class="stathead"><td width="40%">Oct 1, 2011</td><td align="right" width="5%">1</td><td align="right" width="5%">2</td><td align="right" width="5%">3</td><td align="right" width="5%">4</td><td align="right" width="5%">5</td><td align="right" width="5%">6</td><td align="right" width="5%">7</td><td align="right" width="5%">8</td><td align="right" width="5%">9</td><td align="right" width="5%">R</td><td align="right" width="5%">H</td><td align="right" width="5%">E</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Chicago White Sox (0-0)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td class="active" align="right">1</td><td align="right">8</td><td align="right">0</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>New York Yankees (0-0)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">7</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">x</td><td class="active" align="right">4</td><td align="right">4</td><td align="right">0</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td colspan="13" align="center">W: C.C. Complete game by Sabathia. I finally got something going in the 6th after Peavy had been dominating me.

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/osdyn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"><table class="osdyn" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" width="575"><tbody><tr class="masthead"><td colspan="13" align="center">ATL at STL - Busch Stadium</td></tr><tr class="stathead"><td width="40%">Oct 3, 2011</td><td align="right" width="5%">1</td><td align="right" width="5%">2</td><td align="right" width="5%">3</td><td align="right" width="5%">4</td><td align="right" width="5%">5</td><td align="right" width="5%">6</td><td align="right" width="5%">7</td><td align="right" width="5%">8</td><td align="right" width="5%">9</td><td align="right" width="5%">R</td><td align="right" width="5%">H</td><td align="right" width="5%">E</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Atlanta Braves (1-0)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">4</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td class="active" align="right">5</td><td align="right">8</td><td align="right">1</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>St. Louis Cardinals (0-1)</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">3</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td class="active" align="right">6</td><td align="right">6</td><td align="right">0</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td colspan="13" align="center">W: Trever Miller (1-0) L: George Sherrill (0-1)</td></tr></tbody></table>

I pulled Garcia after the third inning. 5 runs on 7 hits. Ugh.
But I got three back on a 3-run bomb by Pujols after back-to-back walks with 2 outs. I eventually won on a walk-off double in the 9th. That felt good.

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/osdyn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"><table class="osdyn" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" width="575"><tbody><tr class="masthead"><td colspan="13" align="center">LAA at BOS - Fenway Park</td></tr><tr class="stathead"><td width="40%">Oct 4, 2011</td><td align="right" width="5%">1</td><td align="right" width="5%">2</td><td align="right" width="5%">3</td><td align="right" width="5%">4</td><td align="right" width="5%">5</td><td align="right" width="5%">6</td><td align="right" width="5%">7</td><td align="right" width="5%">8</td><td align="right" width="5%">9</td><td align="right" width="5%">R</td><td align="right" width="5%">H</td><td align="right" width="5%">E</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Los Angeles Angels (0-2)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">2</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td class="active" align="right">2</td><td align="right">9</td><td align="right">0</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Boston Red Sox (2-0)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">2</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td class="active" align="right">3</td><td align="right">6</td><td align="right">0</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td colspan="13" align="center">W: John Lackey (1-0) L: Fausto Carmona (0-1) S: Jonathan Papelbon (1)</td></tr></tbody></table>

    Another close and exciting game.
The Angels had the tying run at third base with 1 out in the 9th, but he was thrown out trying to score on a ground ball to first. Another win that felt good.

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><link href="http://dynasties.operationsports.com/css/osdyn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"><table class="osdyn" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" width="575"><tbody><tr class="masthead"><td colspan="13" align="center">COL at CHC - Wrigley Field</td></tr><tr class="stathead"><td width="40%">Oct 5, 2011</td><td align="right" width="5%">1</td><td align="right" width="5%">2</td><td align="right" width="5%">3</td><td align="right" width="5%">4</td><td align="right" width="5%">5</td><td align="right" width="5%">6</td><td align="right" width="5%">7</td><td align="right" width="5%">8</td><td align="right" width="5%">9</td><td align="right" width="5%">R</td><td align="right" width="5%">H</td><td align="right" width="5%">E</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Colorado Rockies (2-0)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td class="active" align="right">2</td><td align="right">11</td><td align="right">0</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td>Chicago Cubs (0-2)</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">1</td><td align="right">0</td><td align="right">x</td><td class="active" align="right">3</td><td align="right">8</td><td align="right">0</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td colspan="13" align="center">W: John Grabow (1-0) L: Matt Belisle (0-1) S: Carlos Marmol (1)</td></tr></tbody></table>

The game ended when Taveras was caught trying to steal second with two out in the 9th.

I'm really loving the game right now. But I don't think zone hitting without moving the PCI works as well on the higher difficulty levels (HOF and Legend) because of the smaller sweet spot. On All-Star it's possible to hit pitches that are on the edge of the PCI for HR's which is a must when hitting like this. I doubt that would happen often enough, or at all, on a difficulty higher than All-Star.

I suspect this is probably spot on.

Has anyone ever played an extended time on all-star level on game provided sliders? Curious how those may have played out.

Now that I've got the hang of the game, I think I'll try these sliders again. I like timing hitting better so I'll probably use your advice Pyscho. Move Solid Hits to 4 & Timing to 6. May even try the PCI hitting.

The sliders I currently use have 6 for error frequency and 7 for injury frequency... I think this may be more accurate. I go to the other teams and they have far more injuries than I do. Just a thought thrown out there. I know I've said this before but...can't hurt to bring it up again right?

            TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

            Game #18 of The Season

The Red Sox have their 5 game winning streak snapped as they get spanked 7-0 by the A's in Oakland. Gio Gonzalez was outstanding as he kept the Red Sox hitters off balance all game on his way to the complete game 2 hit shutout. Hideki Matsui and Kevin Kouzmanoff had HR's to lead the Oakland offense.

Very intriguing. I was having massive problems hitting when I moved up HOF. I might switch back to Zone (without moving the PCI,) move back down to All-Star and see how that goes for awhile....

I'll have to give this a try. I've been using Timed hitting for most of my playing time with this year's game, and while I enjoy it, I think there's a flaw in it.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the PCI placement sometimes. IE: pitch at the top of the zone and the PCI is buried; ball down the middle, PCI is high and outside...stuff like that. And it doesn't seem to be affected by any attribute/slider or player....great players are just as likely to completely miss with PCI as a rookie just called up.

So even after cranking timing and contact all the way up, I still can't hit. I went on a six game win streak but only because of amazing pitching. During the winning streak I'm pretty sure my team average was only like .220-something. My team average is down to nearly .240 now. It still seems the few runs I'm able to score per game is by the home run. Mostly solo shots. I'm pretty sure my closer will end up getting a ridiculous number of saves during the season if I keep winning these low scoring one or two run games. I just don't understand why I still can't hit.

I'm pretty sure my closer will end up getting a ridiculous number of saves during the season if I keep winning these low scoring one or two run games. I just don't understand why I still can't hit.
You need to not play games for a few days and just do round after round of batting practice.

Experiment between Zone and Timing while doing BP and figure oiut which way works better for you. I really sugggest BP because you can just focus on hitting and not worry about game situations, the starter you are facing being "on", etc.

Don't know what else to tell you - if you have cranked up the sliders like you say then it's not a slider problem, it's not the game - IT'S YOU - YOU NEED TO BECOME A BETTER HITTER. I'll say it again, take round after round of BP and focus on becoming a better, smarter hitter.......don't swing at crap, learn how to identify the pitch type and location and start swinging at pitchers that are good pitches to hit.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is more related to how that batter is currently performing (whether he's in a slump or a hot streak) than how they are rated overall (I'm sure ratings still play some role). For example, Nick Swisher is doing great for me. . .he took a splitter way down in the zone out of the park effortlessly and, meanwhile, Teixeira, who is in a slump, couldn't nail two fastballs down the middle with perfect timing. So it's probably a mix of things. At least this is the impression I get while playing. But, who knows (it reminds me of why I wish SCEA was more detailed about many aspects of the gameplay)?

Yes timing takes into account players ratings and if they hot/slummping. Thats why I'm using timing.

Never thought of streaks, but maybe it's possible. But I'm pretty skeptical about ratings making a difference in PCI placement. I thought it made sense that VIS would influence the PCI, but in my RTTS I have my VIS at 93 and it has made no difference at all.

I believe ratings play at least some role because, overall, my at-bats with someone like Robinson Cano result in a lot more success than someone like Eric Chavez, and I doubt this is only because I've gotten lucky with the PCI being in the right place at the right time if it indeed moves regardless of ratings. If ratings didn't play a role, then the amount of success might be randomized across a team because the majority of hitters' ratings would only come into effect once contact is made. Is this what you're seeing? Or is everyone hitting poorly?

Obviously, what I see isn't concrete and is just my opinion. I guess I am just being hopeful that SCEA, who for the most part has done an excellent job (IMO) of incoporating the roles of ratings into the game, wouldn't randomize something as important as one of the main components of a hitting mode.

This right here makes one hell of a lot of sense to me. Never looked at it like this for some reason.
