iv only played a couple games with zone but iv noticed the same thing, carl pavano was throwing everything low and there was no way to hit it. even fouling off these pitches were nearly impossible. im gonna try a few more games and see what i can do, but a switch to timing or back to analog might come soon.

The rest are 0-4 or 0-5. I average around 8 or 9 strikeouts a game. The sliders are not helping me one bit. I even turned down pitch speed to 0 and I still can't hit the ball. Every time I make contact it's either a cheap dribbler, a pop up or a lazy fly ball. I turned both contact and timing up to full 10 and still can't do anything. This is nothing like when I played the game for PS2. Thank you PS3 for ruining my favorite baseball game ever.
The real life Indians are hitting .266, you're like .8 a hit a game worse...you should be stoked.

It sounds more like a poor approach at the plate than a slider issue...have you entered practice mode?

Ive played countless games using this hitting method and have yet to make solid contact on anything lower in the zone so either Im doing something wrong or you guys are just willing to accept this issue. Im playing the Mets currently, Jon Neise on the mound, and the guy is like the second coming of Cy Young, he doesnt leave anything over the plate, hits corners with regularity and keeps the ball down so Ive got 0 hits through 5 innings because of this. Im not swinging at junk constantly as Ive drawn 2 hard fought walks but I dont see how this hitting method works when a guy is on his game and doesnt leave anything in the middle of the plate. Very curious to hear some feedback as I thought this hitting method was going to save the game for me and as it turns out it seems to trade one problem for another.
I don't doubt that Psycho and others can succeed with zone, without moving the PCI....

          Not in the slightest...

But SCEA intentionally added a new interface this year for players that liked one button swinging. Not to mention, there's two other interfaces that have been tweaked and tested by them.

Unless you have a keen eye for meatballs, I'm not shocked that some of you are struggling.

PBerardi (OS Member), used to "pre-load" the PCI in years past because of his inability to move the PCI with the pitch. Sometimes, he left it dead center.

To those struggling with zone, AT LEAST try this. Or go back to Timing, and tweak sliders accordingly. No slider set is one size fits all. They just act as a base for the greater population to start from. Nothing more, and nothing less.

Up the timing slider for you and see if that helps. I did this only 1 notch and am now hitting the ball well and was playing exactly like you before this.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
As I said, I have both the timing and contact sliders both cranked up to full blast and the CPU pitch speed down to nothing. I still can't hit. The only hits I can muster are homers or cheap flares with only the occasional hard single or double. Every hard grounder or fly ball I hit is right at somebody. The rest, more than 75% I'd say are cheap grounders, pop ups, lazy flies, or strikeouts. I average around eight or 9 Ks a game and it's always cause I'm too late.

This is a video game. I shouldn't be hitting WORSE than a real life team. In the game for PS2 my team average was over .300 and I never had to mess with any sliders. The power numbers were normal. I just had more singles, which I was content with cause I rarely drew walks. So my players' batting averages and OBPs were nearly identical.

I have done practice mode, for a total of about 24 hours in the little over a month since I bought the game. I hit terribly in practice too. The only good, solid contact I ever make is a homer, mostly solo cause I can't get anyone else on base. Rare are doubles to the gap, down the line, or off the wall. I can't steal bases cause I can't get on base with my fast runners (Brantley, Sizemore, and Choo). Sizemore has 6 homers and 8 RBIs. Santana has 5 homers and 7 RBIs. Makes for a very boring and frustrating game.

wow, that's rough... you've placed MLB the show in prior years or are you new to the franchise? i think your description is not the norm though.

try testing with a good hitting team like the NYY for a stretch?

Try timing. I understand your disdain for the game. Im using H&V's set with contact upped one click and im having a ball. I just lost 8-4. But I had 11 hits and felt I had chance to hit and score. Try it out, clearly im not as skilled as some zone hitters. Moving the PCI, gauging the pitch at the same time is too much for me to handle. Conversely, not moving the PCI puts you at a huge disadvantage on low pitches and pitches on the black. Again, not knocking the sliders, they just dont match my skill level.

Are you talking to me with this response? If so, I played the Show in the past, but for PS2. Hitting was much less frustrating in that game. In this year's game for PS3 I have tried playing with better hitting teams too with little to no success.

Just because it's a video game you can't bring yourself to underachieve a little? I mean the Indians are OVERachieving right now, let's be honest here. You are probably where they will be at by the end of the season BA-wise.

It's not so much disdain as it is extreme frustration. I would love to be able to lose 8-4 and have 11 hits in doing so. Unfortunately it's just not happening right now. I check my analysis after pretty much every swing. I feel like I'm moving the PCI when I'm swinging but the analysis says I'm barely doing it if at all. Plus for some ridiculous reason a lot of the contact I'm making are cheap ground balls and pop ups, even when the ball is located right in the middle of my PCI.

Try sticking with zone and doing a bunch of rounds of batting practice so you aren't feeling the pressure of the game situations. Trust me, you will get better by doing this....just focus on pitch recognition and making good contact.

To get the results you are getting with the slider adjustments you say you made, there is only one conclusion - YOU NEED TO GET BETTER AT HITTING

                          TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

                          Game #10 of The Season

The Red Sox and Rays begin a 3 game series with a pitchers duel. Ben Zobrist hit a solo HR in the 1st inning off Daisuke Matsuzaka to give the Rays an early 1-0 lead. Zobrist left the game with an injury an inning later. Matsuzaka settled in after the HR and kept the Rays in check for 6 innings. Jeff Niemann was dominant for Tampa as he kept the Red Sox off the scoreboard through 6 innings and the Rays still holding onto a 1-0 lead. The game would remain 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 9th and Tampa would bring in Kyle Farnsworth for the save and Farnsworth slammed the door to give the Rays the win by a final score of 1-0.

I don't use guess pitch and i never use Power Swing

I want to focus more on see ball- hit ball and I don't like the fact that you know if it's a fastball or whatever. If you want to guess a pitch - you should sit on that pitch....not have an indicator beep to tell you its a fastball.....just my opinion
