There's pros and cons to both.

Timing seems too "determined" for my taste. There will be times, that despite everything you do as a gamer, you will still swing and miss, because the pitch is high center and the PCI is low away ... when it hap[ens bases loaded 2-out, trailing by a run ... you'll be frustrated. When it happens a few more times, well ....

Well, that and the numerous pitches you can foul off (just out of the strike zone), can get a bit ridiculous with timing.

At this point, I'm not real happy with timing or zone ... but it could also be something I am doing ... even though I am very happy with my plate discipline.

TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

Game #27 of The Season

The Mariners took an early 1-0 lead int he 2nd inning on a solo HR by Jack Cust. Boston tied it in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI single by JD Drew. Seattle added a solo HR in the 4th by Milton Bradley and then in the 5th inning Miguel Olivo hit a ball down the RF line that bounced off the top of the wall and into the stands foul but it was ruled a HR and the umpires did not review it. The Red Sox had plenty of chances to score runs in the first 6 innings but Doug Fister repeatedly pitched out of jams and stranded the Sox baserunners as Seattle led 3-1 after 6 innings of play. Josh Reddick cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th with a solo HR, Reddick has now started 2 ballgames since being recalled from AAA and has belted a HR in each start. Jamey Wright came out of the Seattle bullpen to relieve Fister after a double by Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3 after 7 innnings. The Red Sox took the lead in the bottom of the 8th after JD Drew, who picked up his 3rd hit of the game was on 1st base and advanced to 3rd on a wild pickoff throw. Jed Lowrie was up next with 1 out and Lowrie delivered a sac fly to LF to score Drew and give Boston a 4-3 lead entering the 9th inning. The Mariners threatened in the 9th but Jonathan Papelbon struck out Brendan Ryan with the tying run on 3rd base to end the game and pickup the save as the Sox win 4-3. Papelbon has now converted 9 straight save opportunities.

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk ***The Perfect Slider Set 2011 Edition***

Just tried a Diamondback Franchise using these sliders and... well I kept striking out about 17 times against Jimenez (He had 13). Other than that my bats came alive in the last 3 innings before winning in 10 innings on a Miguel Montero homer.
3 - 6 - 0
2 - 6 - 0
Also I had 2 injuries, Xavier Nady in the 2nd inning on a missed swing.. then my closer on his 2nd pitch in the bottom of the 10th...
Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather.

Timing is getting you good results!! It's great when you get a nice hit out of the strikezone because the CPU put the "eye" in that area. It kinda really sucks though when its in the zone and you time it perfectly and foul it off. That happens in real life, however.

I went 17-12 in my first season (29 games) and lost in the ALCS. This season I had more cap, started out great but now i'm down to 3-3. I'm loving the competitiveness of these sliders!!!

I have updated post #1 of the thread to reflect SOlid Hits = 4 for human & cpu

So far I am actually loving Timing.......I didn't like it a month or two ago when I tried it before the patch.....but it feels good now.

Yeah.....I definitely think the hit variety is better on Timing and I have been converted

I'll miss zone....maybe next year I'll go back to it

Tired of singles up the middle and solo HRs I assume, lol. Anyway, ill try your slider spread now on timing.

I don't have either of those problems on Zone

I'm not going to sit here and say Timing is a bad alternative though, I could see why a lot of people would enjoy it, but I will always be a Zone guy, as long as they continue to improve it.

Anyway yeah those problems have resolutions, contact has a big effect on home runs, and timing/foul frequency have a big effect on hit variety.

I coulda sworn that in earlier posts psych also said the TIMING Slider was at 6 for him?

So should I try that or stick with it at 5 and SH at 4?

I have tried the timing slider clear up to 7 and hardly noticed a difference except it seems the batter is able to safely check his swing more often...

I am seriously lost on what to do. I was crushing the ball with pyshco's sliders but getting no home-runs. On the zone sliders I was getting home-runs but less hits total. What's the deal? I really am trying to understand how improving contact & solid hits by 1 hurts home-runs...

TNK- RED SOX FRANCHISE

Game #28 of The Season

What a pitching duel in this game as Clay Buchholz and Erik Bedard put on an a clinic on the mound. The Red Sox got an RBI double from Jacoby Ellsbury in the 3rd and a solo HR from David Ortiz in the 4th and that was all the offense they could muster up against Bedard. Buchholz was electric and finished with 10 K's in this game as he took a complete game shutout into the 9th inning but was unable to finish the game when the Mariners got runners in 2nd & 3rd with 1 out. Jonathan Papelbon allowed one of the inherited runners to score on a single but was able to get Franklin Gutierrez to fly out to end the game with the tying run on 3rd base.

Jacoby Ellsbury was hit by a pitch and had to leave the game in the bottom of the 8th with a bruised wrist. Ellsbury is expected to miss a few days and will not require a stint on the DL

The Red Sox complete the 3 game sweep of Seattle and will continue their homestand with a 4 game series against the Angels.

yes, i have tried timing slider at 6 for a while, and moved it to 7 recently...all the while my pitch speed has been 4. anyway, not much significant going from 6 to 7 as i think there was going 5 to 6. still using zone hitting. why do u think upping contact and solid hits hurts HRs?
