    Re: HOF Sliders/Statistics Disscussion

Oh, yes, that makes a lot of sense.

I have pitcher control matched in my set. I don't actually forsee matching consistency though.

I may end up matching Power (right now I'm User 4, CPU 5), due to the lower fielder speed, and as a result, matching Solid Hits (right now I'm User 5, CPU 5). Pretty much I'm saying matching yours minus Control. I wonder how much of an impact Control plays this year?...On both sides?...

I think I'd go ahead and match you, slider for slider, if I weren't a tad nervous about losing that random User 10+ K game...not that any Yankee other than possibly Burnett on an obscure good day (focusing on the obscure/rare part) could really even do that. I think Sabathia maybe did it once or twice last season, so they are rare in general in NY.

But, I'm still pitching to a low enough average...so who knows right now?

Either way, I'm thrilled with how close I am to calling it a day (literally I'm debating on one click here and there, which is great) and never looking at my sliders again!!!...Minus errors and steals which will need A LOT of games to finalize...

Just finished up probably the best game I've played with this year's game. It was the very definition of a pitcher's duel between Tim Hudson and Zack Grienke. Grienke was just killing me most of the game(12 K's), but luckily I was able to work his pitch count high enough to get into the bullpen.

I really didn't want to bring Hudson back in for the 8th, but the cpu kept Grienke in for the 8th, and I wasn't going to let him out 'Bulldog' Hudson... It worked out though, and I was able to scratch across a run in the 9th to get Huddy the win.

Pitchers duels are my favorite. Reminds me of that game I played last year where Oliver Perez and A.J. Burnett pitched almost identical innings to yours, but both pitcher's got pulled (both throwing shutouts) as the game went to extras.

        Why do I remember it?

Did you see who I said was pitching that game? LOL

Freaking Jemile Weeks hit a walk off single in like the 11th, and I lost 1-0. The most memorable game of this series for me, by far.

This is very cool to read. I'm looking forward to one of those myself...hopefully with top caliber pitchers this time...like yours...not like mine from last year.

          Re: HOF Sliders/Statistics Disscussion

Okay, playing in Yankee Stadium is gonna be interesting...

I didn't have time to play more than one full game last night, so other than that one, I decided to mess around with Ivan Nova and A.J. Burnett. Just pitching: 9 innings, 16 hits, and 4 homers...yikes! LOL!

Well, in the game I actually played; Verlander vs. Sabathia, was worth the price of admission. Verlander carried a no-no into the 4th, and Sabathia struck out his first 4 outs.

Lowering User Consistency has made a noticable difference. Just one click:

I have to be real true with my up stroke.

The umps squeeze the life out you.

Swing and misses are tough to enduce.

And good luck getting strike outs once you reach 70-75 pitches. The first 4 outs were K's? Sabathia only struck out one more over his next 17 outs.

Starter stamina plays a much larger role than I ever remember from previous versions of this game. Is it just me, or are you noticing this too Jgainsey? It's almost too extreme. But granted, I did lose my groove later on, especially on my 'up and to the left' upstroke. This one kills me.

          Tigers 3 10 0
          Yankees 1 9 0

          Hitting
          Tigers 1 2B, 1 3B
          Yankees 1 2B, 1 HR

          Pitching
          Tigers 2 BB, 8 K (58% Strikes)
          Yankees 4 BB, 7 K (54% Strikes, 24 fouls enduced, 8 misses enduced)

I have a few other box scores, but they really aren't worth sharing. I'll average everything out before Knight's rosters drop, and maybe we can compare trends.

I'll just say, Fielding Errors may need a bump.

I need to get better hitting my upstroke or enducing more swing and misses.

My strike percentage is terrible! See above. LOL!

            Re: HOF Sliders/Statistics Disscussion

Yeah, that why I lowered I lowered user consistency a click. It felt a little too easy at default, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that once click actually made a noticeable difference. And you're definitely right about hitting your spot with the up stroke. I'll get a little lazy with it at times, and before I know it I'm not striking anyone out, and plenty of hard hit ball are being put into play. Though it definitely rewards the user for accuracy, and overall, I'm really happy with the new mechanic.

I really haven't noticed a huge drop off in K's as my starter tires. Maybe if I'm trying to keep the pitch count down, and squeeze another inning out of a good starter. I've finished up strong with K's in bunches on more than one occasion, so the K's are definitely there for the taking, even with tired pitchers. Though hitting your spot on the analog meter looks to be very important in putting up good strike out numbers.

And yeah... the ump kills me in certain games. I had two beautiful strike outs robbed from Romero in my last game. Some of the best curve balls I've thrown this year... but no dice. It's frustrating sometimes, but it goes both ways, and their strike zones feel close enough to real life.

As the CPU guys have shown, errors with more than likely need another boost for sure. And that will probably be my next change.

I think I've played 11 or 12 games so far with my current set, so I'll probably average everything out once I get to 20 games.

Here's my last Box Score. Won it in the 10th, as my numbers continue to trend in the right direction. I like what I'm seeing so far..

FYI.. I'll be posting my current slider set in the slider vault shortly for anyone who wants a slightly more convenient way to try out these tweaks . They'll be titled "Jgainsey's HOF Sliders".

One oddity I'm starting to notice is a consistent number of errant throws from my outfielders to the cutoff. I'm not sure yet if I'll move it back to default or not, as I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary from my infielders. I think I may move closer to what Nomo is using. Maybe throwing errors and 5 or 6, and fielding at 8 or 9.

Here's my latest box score. Good to see some runs after a little bit of an offensive drought..

                Re: HOF Sliders/Statistics Disscussion

I already went ahead and moved fielding errors to 8. In two games last night, I had 3 throwing errors, and the CPU had 1 fielding error. We're on the same wavelength with this, I believe. It may be time to steal this combination from Nomo. Where is he now? 6 and 10? Maybe 6 and 9 is a better starting point.

How do you feel about reliever stamina? I dropped it to 2 on both sides, and was still able to use Joba in back to back games. Granted, he probably has a higher stamina than most RP. The CPU also seemed to go to their pen more often..and, as a result, made some pretty smart pitching changes.

Let me tell you; I need to to be more thoughtful with my pitch strategy for my bullpen. Rafael Soriano spoiled a 1 run/7 inning performance from Phil Hughes by coughing up 3 runs in the 8th to Detroit for me yesterday. They've already hit 5 homeruns (to my 1) so far in the series. The very SECOND I begin wondering whether or not I'm ever going to give up a homerun again, DET jumps out and smacks 9 (one game where I only pitched) over their last three games! I'm kinda kicking myself a little now.

Other than a few sliders that I'm in the last stage of testing, I think my set will be done around the same time as yours. Would you mind if I post them here?

I still have User Solid Hits at Default (because I have CPU control at 5). Though I need just a couple more games to feel comfortable with the stats, I may need to drop both to 4 like you already have done. We still have a couple discrepancies, but at the end of the day, our sets are virtually identical (most notable difference is Consistency).

                Do you use vibration?

By all means, go ahead and post your set whenever feel like it man. Sounds like we're pretty close, but if you want I can put 'em up with mine in the first post.

I think nomo is at 5/10 with errors now, but I'm just not seeing enough throwing errors to put mine back to default. I think I'll probably settle on 6/9 or maybe even 6/10 with that one eventually.

I've been seeing the same thing with reliever stamina, and I think 2 is a good choice. I used 3 as a jumping off point, but I've definitely noticed a little too much energy from the relievers all around. I think 0 might be too low for that one... 1 or 2 is probably the sweet spot for relief stamina. Either way, I'm pretty happy with the cpu bullpen management this year compared to last year's game.

And oh yeah, I do have the vibration on.

I'm seeing the same exactly the same thing. at first, I thought I wasn't pushing the cutoff button, but after it happened several times I noticed that wasn't the case. But I'm not sure if this has to do with the slider settings - maybe since errors have almost been exclusively throwing errors from infielders to first and second base, maybe they've tried to add another type of error???
Yeah, I think they tried to add more sloppiness to the outfielders in general. Which makes sense.. the outfielders in this game have been far too good in years past.

I have noticed one thing that really helps with this. Make sure you're not throwing the ball to the cutoff man at full power unless the current situation calls for it. If there's a play where a hit is obviously going to be a double, there's really no need to try and rush the ball back in. Same goes thing goes when a run is going to score and there's nothing you can do about it. No need to rush a couple of full powered relay throws when it won't affect the outcome.

Maybe it's just me, but an overwhelming amount of my throwing errors in the OF were because I was being lazy and mashing the button when it wasn't needed. Hopefully that helps a bit.

while I'm here, I'd like to ask you another question that has absolutely nothing to do with sliders but maybe with global settings (I've tried asking on many other threads and haven't gotten a definitive answer...you seem like an astute guy so I'll just try!)...my baserunner on first will often stop dead in his tracks or run back to first on ground balls or liners up the middle with 2 outs...even when I push all the right buttons to keep them moving...and when it's a hit then they'll get forced out at second from the outfield! have you ever encountered this? sorry to clock this thread with a completely different issue...
Do you have base running on 'assist?'

I do, and I have never seen this happen (I use the one where you need to use the left stick to select runners, and press the corresponding button to advance bases).

I find that lead runners will often run in their own..example, runner on 1st and 3rd, I hit a grounder to first, and the lead runner will automatically score.

I've read other posters on OS having this issue too, but I just plainly haven't seen it. Is it just me, or is their some difference in our settings?

If I recall correctly, I think Nomo said he was going 6/10. I think he said that even at 10, fielding errors were just a tad too low, so in response, he was going to possibly keep throwing errors at 6 (even though throwing errors themselves were a little much) in order to keep overall errors at the right number.

I'll have to double check that.

I'm gonna run 6/9 through ST I think.

I dunno man.. I really haven't noticed anything like that at all. Usually if there's a base running blunder it's because it's all on me.

Oh, and thank you for offering to post my set on page 1.

I'm nearly done testing, but I just want 3-5 more games with Default Solid Hits before I make up my mind on that.

                            Thanks again, Jgainsey.

                              Same here.

I just don't want to end up with too much sloppy play. I'm sure 6/10 is going to produce the right amount of errors(I trust their stats), but I'm willing to sacrifice a little in the way of errors so that I don't see an abundance of bobbling in the field. I'll just have to wait and see with that one.

What about stealing? Are you going with them on stolen bases? I'm not sure what they're using off the top of my head.. This is definitely one of the sliders that takes a larger sample size, so I'm willing to take their word on it.

5/8 for steals. This is largely based on their stats, so I agree with you. We would have had to test an absurd amount if games to really nail these down. 5/8 is playing pretty well so far.

Some games, the CPU will steal like crazy, and I wonder if 8 is too high. But in my latest stretch, I think my last 3 games, DET hasn't even attempted any. So, I'm down with 5/8.

As far as errors go, you took the words right out of my mouth. I'd like to do 6/10, but plenty of errors aren't even charged properly...in both directions.

6/9 should play a pretty balanced game. I'm not set on it, but set enough that at least 9 is a must.
