First of all, love the job you've done here and I love the philosophy behind it, I am a complete baseball geek and have been so since the 70's, and your goals with this set are right in my wheelhouse so to speak. At first I thought I'd be overwhelmed using HOF batting(Im new to the series but a grizzled sports game vet) but its been absolutely perfect, my question however is with pitching. I've tried all of the different pitching styles and personally liked classic the best, I know you have a lot of experience using classic(going by past posts) so I'm wondering what changes if any you would make for classic pitching. I see BrianU made a recommendation above but that was before the most recent changes. Thanks man and again great work I really appreciate it.

good questions.
my question is this Bobhead: If you lower human pitch control to 2 and leave cpu contact at 5, does that give the cpu a big offensive advantage? In the sliders section of mlb 13, it says that you should lower cpu contact when you lower human pitch control.
Also, what do you fellas think of All-Star Human Pitch Control at 2 and Human Consistency at 2?
And for Hall Of Fame Level, how much should those two sliders be raised? Thanks.Last edited by vcu9; 03-29-2013, 07:31 PM.Comment

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
I decided on Fielder Speed at 2, and I also decided to turn the throwing meter off, as I've done in past years.
The throws are still too weird and poorly animated. The lollipops and rainbows and fire-cannon throws... all that is because of the meter... turn it off and things are perfect.
Strikeouts are going to be what I'm going to have to keep an eye on. They were actually fine at default, but I felt like I had to lower CPU Contact to balance out the handicaps to Human Control and Consistency... I felt like it was just too easy to paint spots or corners or whatever.
So again barring some sort of CPU contact issue, these should be final.Comment

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
For all Classic Pitching questions, please go to this amazing thread.
I've not used Classic Pitching at all this year. I used it last year but that was last year. I don't assume anything is the same in any given game. Regardless, my answers would just be guesses, I strongly recommend you get advice from Heroes or PsychoBulk (I think he uses Classic)?
I know a lot of it has to do with playing style and how much you actually aim outside the zone, but I find I am able to dominate the CPU while throwing 68 to 70 percent strikes every game. I wish they punished me more, I may raise CPU batting sliders but before that I would prefer lowering control and seeing if I can get my strike percentage down to the low 60s.
Also I know bobhead wanted to decrease the plate discipline of the CPU and increase more swings and misses . This is clearly accomplished with the timing at 2 but it may be a little overboard. I'm seeing pitchers with not very high k/9 strike out too many good hitters with a total waste pitch or a high middle of the plate change up that the batter just looks at before his long walk back to the dug out. Just my thoughts

I wanted to actually gauge the CPU ability first. Now that I've played enough games, I've made a change (Contact at 4), and that should cover it.
Also, what do you fellas think of All-Star Human Pitch Control at 2 and Human Consistency at 2?
And if you are talking about Classic, not Analog... I'd really stick to default for that. No user skill involved == very little variance from how the devs tuned and designed the game. There's not really any reason you'd need to change the HUM pitching sliders.
And for Hall Of Fame Level, how much should those two sliders be raised? Thanks.
But I have big hands lol. I'm sure I'm one of the least skilled on here, in terms of executing pitches with the analog stick.Last edited by Bobhead; 03-30-2013, 10:29 PM.Comment

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
A couple changes.
Timing was brought back up to default, I'll just leave it there. Only reason I dropped it was because I was putting too many things into fair play... with the foul frequency having been increased to 8, I realize there's no longer a reason to keep Timing decreased.
With the throwing meter off, I recommend Arm Strength be dropped to 4. That's only with the meter off. If you want to keep it on, I strongly recommend you stay with default. So nothing changes for throwing meter guys, this is only for anyone who turns it off as I have.
Baserunner Speed was dropped 1 point because I felt infield hits were a little too easy (with Fielder Speed where it is). Now you get an appreciation for the difference between Jose Reyes and Yadier Molina, at the plate.
And finally, I had tried Strike Frequency at default with the meatball issue being fixed. I hoped that was the only reason Strike percentages were high... it isn't. I just wanted to test that one more time, and it didn't work, So I dropped it back down, and it will stay at 4.
My franchise stats will be updated throughout the year. I'll try to remember to post box scores in here, but I'm not very good at remembering, so we'll see how that goes lol. I'm only 2 games in, but so far everything seems exactly where it should be, as do my results from the exhibition games I've played this week.Comment

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
Seeing your stats, you are pretty much suffering from the same issues I do. Here are my stats:
Hitting:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-IR...it?usp=sharing
Pitching:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-IR...it?usp=sharing
You need to download the files, because in quick look view not everything fits into the screen.
So, I was able to set pitching very well, I use human consistency at 4, and human control at 3. My only problem is my high zone%, and as I see, you are suffering from the same issue. If I would be able to lower my zone%, my stats were spot on. I know I'm aggressive at pitching, but I was wondering, if the problem is, that I leave pitches in the zone, I was intended to throw outside the zone. So, I'm considering upping human consistency to 5 again, maybe that helps. What do you think about this?
On the hitting side, it's pretty much a work in progress. I swing at too many pitches, and usually swing and miss on pitches outside the zone, and inside the zone as well. I tend to be early on a lot of pitches. I'm hoping, that this will go away as I'm getting used to the new hitting engine. As I can see, the cpu's zone% is right there where it should be, so it's only my fault (user input) that I swing on too many pitches. What do you think about this?

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
I actually haven't observed any zone% problems. Keep in mind my franchise stats are only 2 games in, and those are 2 games with my 2 best pitchers. In my Exhibition testing I saw no such problems once I got games in with lesser pitchers. In fact I'm playing a game right now where I can't even find the plate.Comment

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
Bobhead, after reading your findings about the bassrunning steal slider being backwards I'm curious as to why you have them at default or lower in your sliders? Are they producing accurate steal/pickoff numbers?Comment

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
The most important thing is that the Base Stealing Ability slider is not the only slider that affects... base stealing. With lower baserunning speed, base stealing is already harder than it otherwise would be.
So all things considered, I found no reason to change the base stealing slider.Comment

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
My franchise stats have been updated. Now 19 games in.
I'll be making a couple changes tomorrow when I get home from work. (And I will do more analysis then, hopefully). I already made the changes but I don't want to do them off memory, and I really need to get to bed.
Not too much is changing, the main thing is just -1 Timing and +2 Fouls to decrease pop-ups, and both CPU pitching sliders being brought down to 3 to increase walks.Comment

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
Hey Bobhead, very interesting analog slider set!
Was wondering, what's your idea behind having the pitcher consistency slider at a higher value than the pitcher control slider?Spending time with Jesus!

Re: Bobhead's 2013 Simulation Sliders
Im using your sliders only changes are im using meter pitching time hitting and hof for both with the hitting setting you suggested for time hitting
Hum contact 5
Hum power 5
Human timing 4
Human foul 6
Hum solid hits 5
Wondering because im using meter pitching does this change Any of the pitching sliders im getting good results just wonder what you thought i wouldnt think it would because it almost use the same human input just different interface thanks for these and the help in the futureComment
