This is exactly the conclusion I reached after more thought the other day. The first pitch gains confidence thus command much quicker than the others. Hence, it becomes the most effective pitch but if you hit it well enough, possibly not the most used.

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
Got your sliders some nice exposure on twitch nomo. I played a franchise game on the PS4 with them and it was a thriller, crazy game and right down to the wire. And all the stats (save one, my throwing errors because of some difficulties with Pure Analog) ended up looking very realistic like it could actually happen in a Cards-Cubs game.
They really do play well human vs. CPU, just as they do CPU only.

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
I've also created a bug report for the reversed BR Steal Ability slider:
If you'd like to see "Unreversed BR Steal Ability slider (PS4 only)" as one of the new meain features introduced in MLB 15, please vote for it.
Also, it is still impossible to get a realistic SB%, at least with Pitch Speed at 10. I actually play my HUM game with the max pitch speed, so I wish this gets fixed. Here's the bug report:
I'll run a set with Pitch Speed 0 to see how much improvement I could get with that setting, but that's clearly not ideal. So if you wish to see "Realistic steal success rate (Vita only)" as one of the main features announced by Ramone the next spring for MLB 15, please vote for it.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
I got the PS4 game and played a few MoM games yesterday with the sliders we've worked on here. Tough to tell much from a few games as usual, but mostly all of them were pitching duels. If anyone notices any differences in game play between the systems please post your findings. I'd rather be done with the cpu vs. cpu testing for now and have some fun. LOL.Comment

I just voted for both your bug reports. I hope this gets looked into. I guess in the meantime I'm forced to play at 0 pitch speed and SB success at 0 to try and get realistic results. I'm very interested to see what your test results yield.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
Wow, just checked your latest test results with Pitch Speed at 0 and Steal Ability at 10 and see that the SB% was over 91%! Crazy! So I guess the Pitch Speed does ultimately affect stolen base success rate. What are you thinking about doing with these sliders now to get them more in line with MLB actuals? I'm guessing either lowering Steal Ability by a few or raising Pitch Speed?Comment

Either way, it's clearly not optimal if we have to lower pitch speed so much and set another slider at an extreme to get realistic results.Last edited by nomo17k; 05-08-2014, 03:10 PM.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
I've gotten in only about 10 games so far, so I don't put too much faith in the actual numbers at the moment. I'm also doing the same thing (Pitch Speed 0 & BR Steal Ability 0 combo) with a PS4 set, and there SB% is just 65%. I don't know the status of patch for PS4, so it's not clear if PS4 is running the game after the Brian's fixes have made it in.
Either way, it's clearly not optimal if we have to lower pitch speed so much and set another slider at an extreme to get realistic results.
SB% SB CS
MLB 73.0 0.65 0.24
CPU 77.8 0.64 0.18
Are there any other adjustments you have in mind for any of the other sliders? To me it looks like you have things ironed out pretty good here. Again, great work on these and taking the time to post the averages and running the test. Much appreciated.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
I know it's not ideal, but it looks like your slider combination for Pitch Speed and BR Steal Ability are really taking shape. It's just too bad we have to sacrifice Pitch Speed in order to garner realistic results. I have yet to play at Pitch Speed at 0, so I can't even imagine how SLOW that's going to be after logging so much time with 10. Unfortunately, it looks like this is the extreme we are going to have to go with. Either way, the numbers do look good. Can't get much closer than this. I guess the only adjustment could be maybe dropping Steal Ability down a notch to maybe see if that 4.8% difference can lessen ?
SB% SB CS
MLB 73.0 0.65 0.24
CPU 77.8 0.64 0.18

You cannot really nail down SB% that accurately, so a few % difference I wouldn't try to adjust. It's been converging to about 75%, so it's looking good at least the extreme setting.
Otherwise, I'm just trying to fine tune here and there and running a test set on PS4 to see if things are similar or not (looks similar), so mostly I'm satisfied with the current set. If you take any of the recent sets (in May), I don't think I'll diverge from them much from now on.Comment

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
I cannot recommend playing at Pitcher Speed 0 if you are manually controlling players. It probably is too slow for most people. But for MOM and such it may be a trade-off that people can live with.

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
Nomo, I see in your most recent 5/7 set you're showing an excellent SB to CS ratio so far with Pitch Speed 0 and Steal Ability 10.
For one, am I reading the ratios right?
Secondly, do you have any impressions on why success has increased so much; or rather, if you've essentially proven the reversal of the Ability slider and shown in previous versions that Pitch Speed doesn't have a drastic effect on success rate, do you think this is just standard deviation over a small amount of games played?
Because essentially, with these current numbers, Pitch Speed 0 and Ability 0 could feasibly bring success rate above MLB averages and I wouldn't have even imagined that possible to this point with any slider combination.
Here's the screen I'm seeing from your 5/7 set:Attached FilesComment

I was meaning to hopefully bracket the realistic SB% by giving the maximum edge to base stealers. We can now barely have a realistic SB% with that setting.
I think the reason as to why SB% has increased so much is no brainer. By going from Pitch Speed max to min, you are going from MLB pitch speed to HS baseball pitch speed. That fraction of a second can be very important for stealers. Or effectively they are always stealing on off-speed/breaking pitch, which is easier to steal on even at Pitch Speed max.
In retrospect, I was actually seeing the effect of Pitch Speed on SB% in previous years. I was (reasonably) believing in the statement that the slider does not affect steals, but whenever I did the usual 75-game default slider set with only Pitch Speed max, SB% came out a bit lower than the MLB ave. I just didn't know it can change this much; I've never tested with Pitch Speed at 0.

Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]
Nomo, for stat heading L, I believe it says HR/PA (I don't know 100% because it's cut off a bit but if that's the case, it's showing that's it's around half the MLB league average. Is there a reason for this and is it fixable with a slider tweak or are you happy with where this is at? This is in your current recommended set...T.K.Comment
