Yes, you aim with the left stick, and with no ball marker, you'll have to go by feel and the rumble. The rumble will increase as you get closer to the edge of the zone and increase more once you're aiming out of the zone.

If you're doing it with no marker and no rumble, it's all feel of the left stick.

do you need to hold down the direction on the joystick while you press whatever pitch or just pick the direction then decide your pitch?

do you find it easier to pitch with ball marker on or off?

After I select the pitch, I hold the left stick in the direction I want all the way through the pitch until it reaches the batter/catcher. Not sure if you have to do it this way but I get good results so that's the way I have always done it. As for it being easier with the ball marker on or off , I would think its easier with it on but I go with it off for more realism. You could always play some games with it on and once you get used to it switch it off and see how it goes. I don't use the vibration either. Total clean screen and realism. Good luck

I release the stick after I choose the pitch. I don't think it matters since once you chose the pitch and the pitcher begins his motion, I don't think any input on the sticks matters.

It's easier with it on, to a degree.

It's easier in the sense you know where you're setting either the start point or the end point (depending on which ball marker you use).

Otherwise, Classic pitching is Classic pitching and it will do whatever, ball marker or no. It does not ensure more pitch accuracy or better results - which is what would actually make Classic easier.

As far as the realism of it - I think it's just a visual representation of what's happening in the pitcher's head, and since it does not matter for the result, it's fine. It's no more unrealistic than the PCI.

So, is it hold the stick all the way through lol, or after you start your pitch? I just cant seem to find consistency. Ive tried right after I pitch, All the way through, right after the pitchers motion when he releases the ball.

Location locks the moment you press the button to start the delivery animation - you don't need to hold it any longer than that. It's not hard to see this - mess around in practice on beginner (where there is almost no variance due to ratings) with the aim cursor on, throw fastballs around the strike zone and you should see pretty much every pitch go right to the spot you aimed, no matter when you decide to let go of the stick or where you move it during the windup.

You get inconsistent accuracy results due to the way classic pitching works on high difficulties (ratings having a very high impact, that is). Not because you're doing anything wrong on the sticks.

Glad I found this thread. I have always been a meter pitching guy and found that I could pretty much dominate any team with a low 70's rated pitcher using the meter. After reading through a good portion of this thread, I am going to switch over to classic now that I have an understanding of how it works.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing some life from the opposing teams offense

Also, you can turn off the ball marker, strike zone, and the rumble for a real challenge.

Update on my classic pitching journey. Gave up 6 runs in my first game using it, and I couldn't be happier. It's finally a challenge to pitch!!!

Long time classic pitching fan, first time poster. The only way to pitch, IMO!

Not sure which I enjoy more though…reading this thread or actually doing it!

                        Comment/question:

Has there been any discussion or testing of a second button press at the top of their delivery?

The first hold/tap for effort/movement/accuracy and a second tap for release point?

It may just be my imagination, but after several thousand pitches, it seems that if I make a second press early, the ball tends to rise (above and beyond the location/break for that pitch).

Conversely, if I wait until after the apex of their delivery/forward momentum to make that second press, the ball dips below the intended location/break.

Hard to explain in text, but I truly think there is at least some moderate consistency with this.

                        So,

                        1. Standard hold/press for the windup until whatever part of that pitcher’s animation you would normally do

                        Release button

                        2. Second tap either before, at, or after their peak forward momentum/release point

I am on All-Star+ w/ dynamic difficulty. No vibration. Ball marker fade. Hot zone preview.

Of course, the pitcher ratings and the random element are still the primary influence, but I have taken this approach since ‘17, and if it is all just a placebo, I still greatly enjoy the added press for timing/rhythm.

Never gets old (for me) due to the huge variety in pitching styles/pace (standard, from the stretch).

If I’m the only one, carry on.

I used meter for 12 years before I moved to classic and never looked back.
