Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders
Hmm.. Try pressing it until you feel the vibration, then let go.
Then, hold it past the vibration, and then try it just tapping and releasing immediately.
See if you can get it to give you feedback that makes any sense.

Again, auto throwing is amazing if you've never tried it. Get errors just as any other style and it heavily relies on attributes.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders
Ok i just put feedback on and something seems to be off. Seems like they are different feedbacks for each frequency. When i tap the button, the first feedback i got was late. Then i tried again it said good. It's a different feedback everytime and it doesnt match with the length i press the button for.
For consistency, I threw the same pitch (Boeve's fastball - best pitch from the best pitcher on my franchise) aimed down the middle and just held the button down the whole time, i.e. I pushed and never let go all the way through the pitching motion. Button was down even as the ball went to the plate.
I would see varying feedback, including "Good". I don't know how it could be anything BUT "Late" or "Very Late" considering I never let go."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Yep. I've noticed this, too. Just seems random.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders
Also, do you guys still get dominating performances with aces and games where you don't issue a single walk? I don't want to go from one extreme to the other where I walk too many batters. I've never, in my video game baseball playing career (which spans many, many years) thrown a perfect game or no-hitter. I'd like to at least know it's possible with this method. Has anyone thrown a perfecto or a no-no with classic pitching?Comment

If there's no swing on the pitch, the feedback will show "Release: (One of Very Early, Early, Good, Late, Very Late)""Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders
It is my understanding that with Classic pitching, the release is a "dice roll" based off of the attributes of the pitcher and is not a result of user input. User input on classic pitching is restricted to the "effort" that is put into the pitch which is based off of how long you hold the pitch button down. More effort leads to higher velocity and more break but less control and vice versa with less effort.
At least this has always been what I thought, someone could correct me if I am wrong.
Same here, that's what I've always thought. Chance based on ratings, pitch command, pitcher confidence, and "effort" (and of course slider settings)."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

What level do most of you guys play on?
Again, I'm unsure how this set can be used for All-Star OR Hall of Fame. It seems that using the same sliders would produce vastly different results on different difficulty levels.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders
So if the button press/hold is meaningless, and the pitch effectiveness is based solely on a dice roll and the algorithm therein- based on the ratings for the pitcher, it would stand to reason the tapping the button would make the most sense, as to conserve energy for the pitcher.
If a long press and hold uses more effort, but does not enhance the pitch itself, due to the particular dice-roll coming up with "Too Early", then you could waste effort and endurance on a curve ball that hung, because that particular pitch was destined to hang, based on the mathematical equation for that pitch.
Okay, so after so many years of this game, and the developer and PR presence on this website, do you think maybe it is time for someone to break down how the classic pitching actually functions? Or is the perception of how you think it works, a purposeful secret of not actually knowing how it works?
I get the dice-roll randomization of the pitching, and the idea of ratings over mini-game. I'm cool with that. But why add a feedback for the pitcher, that in no way relates to the input? That would be like having your .210 catcher make a perfect swing on a fastball down the FM, and having the batter miss the ball totally, and having the feedback say "Too Late", but it wasn't actually too late, it just happens that for this particular at bat, the ratings dictated that the guy at the plate would just swing "too late" for the at bat.
Based on ratings.
Regardless of the input and actual timing.
The shroud of mystery on this mode, as well as the 159 pages dedicated to guessing as to how it actually works, is beyond me. Tell us how it works, and why it is the best way to play the game, based on the brilliance of the programming, coupled with the ratings, coupled with the timing, and married to the user input.
Otherwise, rename it "Random Pitch Results Possibly Based on Ratings, But Influenced by User Input...Maybe".

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders
This is the way it should be. If it's not then it's just like any other pitching mechanic that we can eventually master.

One key thing I noticed moving up, your ace's and number 2's really perform the same on AS and HOF. Its the lower tier starters that really start to take a hit on HOF and you can noticeably see the difference. This is main reason I moved up as I was too successful with those lower guys on AS. Now I feel like I really have to be more careful and work the corners more with those guys to avoid big innings, just like I should.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders
You can still get "better" at classic pitching where HOF becomes a necessary upgrade. I call my own pitches and do not follow what the catcher calls, and as a result, I generally felt overpowered as a pitcher on AS...primarily with the lower tier starters, 3,4,5 guys. Just getting better with the interface and how to set guys up has allowed me to move up to HOF and still feel like I am getting the best games possible.

Winner winner chicken dinner. I was too good with lower tier starters and relievers on AS. It came from years of experience on the interface and setting up hitters. SCEA did a great job with hitters chasing out of the zone...it led to being too good for me on All-Star this year.
HOF with the same settings is working like a charm. Love it.
On another note I am going to move infield and OF errors back to default (not throwing errors just errors). And injuries at 8 is where I really like it.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 04-12-2016, 09:15 AM.Now Playing on PS5:
