Fenwaymac Variety 1.0 is currently located in the slider vault. The main purpose of the sliders is to find a way to balance out the hit type percentages (1B,2B,3B,HR) as well as HOW runs are scored (singles, doubles, triples, sac flies, walks, home runs). Typically MLB singles average about 61-65%, doubles 18-24%, triples about 2-3% and home runs somewhere between 11-15%. There are fringe MLB team exceptions that fall outside of the average, but overall these percentages are about right.
What I had found from a previous franchise was that after a 60-game sample, my franchise average were highly out of balance. A vast majority of hits were singles (about 65%, and home runs (nearly 19%), and very little in between. Because of this, my variety of scoring seems often come off of a couple of singles and a long blast, or a string of solo home runs. My team led the league, by far, in home runs, yet my batting average was only .255, which made it fall somewhere nearly the bottom third of the league. The lack of variety of hit types and scoring began to feel pretty stale.
Because of this, I decided to try my hand at slider tweaking in an effort to balance hitting and scoring variation. The results have been very encouraging. Averages per hit type have fallen closely within range of actual MLB averages, and the scoring variety is…well…more varied. The game once-again feels intense and realistic, and every pitch matters.
Here is a breakdown of the sliders, with the full set listed at the end of this post.
The Basics
For general sliders I use:
Hitting level – All Star
Hitting Interface – Zone
Hot/Cold Zone – On
PCI – On (your choice. Also I use the “outline” PCI
Camera – Custom (based off of Catcher 2)
Pitching level – HOF
Pitching type – Meter
Hot/Cold zones – ON, and highly recommended.
Not sure if I missed anything, but hit me up with questions if you want to know more.
HUM Hitting:
See end of post for full HUM hitting sliders. These are based on higher contact (7) offset by lower power (4) to keep the ball in the park a bit more and increase extra base hits. I have now played over 110 games with the set and the averages look really, really good. I typically have posted at every 10-game milestone, so take a look through the thread to see how the averages have settled in as the sample size has grown. My team has an anomaly in David Ortiz inflating the power numbers somewhat, but overall the hit variety and feel of the scoring has been fantastic.
CPU Hitting:
It seems most feel that the computer is fairly anemic this year. These sliders attempt to correct that, by raising the CPU batting average, while adding hit type and scoring type variety. I only have 20 games under my belt with the set below, but they seem to be settling in percentage and scoring type-wise, plus the CPU BA has come up as well. The main concept here is raising contact for the CPU (6), to increase hits and variety, but lowering timing (4) to increase miss-hits and strikeouts. Solid hits is also raised (4) to increase extra base hits. Again, the sample size here is fairly small at this point, but the feel of the game is indicating that these are headed the right direction. Just pitch with caution!
Below are the full sliders I am using. These are somewhere in the slider vault under FenwayMac Variety 1.0 if you just want to plug and play. Also, please feel free to hit me up with any specific questions or thoughts. It’s your feedback that help make these as solid as possible!
