Glad the sliders are giving you good results! I have always played with zone hitting because I like to feel that I am (mostly) in control of the outcome of the at bat.

As for pitching, I havd always used meter pitching so I don't have a lot of feedback on the the other interfaces, though I imagine that whichever you like best would work fine.

While my sliders focus mainly on hitting, if they continue to play well, I may start looking into how the computer is scoring against me. It could be that the -1 power and +1 contact might be a good idea for the CPU as well in order to temper the home runs and help them scatter the ball around the field more.

Let me know how your results continue to play out!

Want to give these a go. With batting, zone, like TNK, PCI OFF & Classic. Was wondering since you can't see the PCI you just use the swing button right, not have to worry about the left stick?

I definitely use the PCI ON. I also do move the PCI as well, but only pre-pitch. I have another thread on here somewhere with my batting technique if you want to search for it, but essentially I look at the quadrants of the strike zone pre-pitch and move the curse to a four-square section that is hot or mostly hot. I park the cursor there and then wait for my pitch. Doing this gives me one less thing to think about and I can then just watch the pitch and focus on timing the swing. If it is going in to the strike zone, but not MY PCI zone I LAY OFF. It is hard to do but you get used to it after a while. Now, if it gets to strike 2, then I frame the pitcher release point and follow the path of the pitch as it moves with the PCI, but only with strike two.

I will see if I can find that thread and add it here. Glad to answer any questions!

EDIT: Here is the link http://www.operationsports.com/forum...truggling.html

This idea has worked very well for me and gives me a consistent approach at the plate (kind of like how players have routines). It may not work for all but this is how I use zone. Hit me up with any questions, but the general idea is that i never leave the PCI dead-center. Computer will either pitch just above or below center, so if you leave your curser in the middle, there is a good chance you will either pop it up or top and chop. I move the PCI pre-pitch.

You possible COULD do this technique with PCI not visible, you just have to be very aware of where the PCI is sitting based on moving the L-stick around. I prefer to see it.

Good example of game variety. After last nights slugfest 9-6 loss to Colorado (combined 15 runs, 8 HR, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 25 hits), today had a tense pitching dual. the difference was a 2-out run scoring double, a generated sac-fly RBI, and a late single RBI to pad the lead for the bullpen.

            Triples - 2.1%
            Home Runs - 13.1%

            Summary

Over the last 10 games I have had a slight bump in power decrease in singles, but hit type percentages all fall no more than 1% outside of real MLB average. I am very happy with these results and am feeling more confident that the 7 contact, 4 power experiment is working out and is showing decent stability over time.

Scoring Percentage HR MLB Red Sox: 25.0%
Scoring Percentage HR MLB Average: 25.7%

            Summary

I think what stands out here the most is that even though is has felt like I give up nothing but home runs, the numbers show that I give up less home runs than league average as well as about the same amount of hits although at minimum I am giving up a couple percent more runs from HR than average.

While it is hard to make a solid conclusion out of these pitching stats, I feel as though the computer has the same problem I used to have involving variety of scores. In this instance, I feel the computer may get a couple base runners, but then typically jack one out of the yard rather than scoring from RBI singles, doubles, triples, sac fly. Since I already am lower in the HR allowed category, I am wondering if a bump up in CPU contact without lowering CPU power is a good move. Sounds terrifying, but I may give it a run...

            Close Games

            Avg runs wins:5.21
            Avg runs allowed wins: 2.68
            Difference: +2.53

            Avg runs loss: 2.86
            Avg runs allowed loss: 4.95
            Difference: -2.09
            One-Run games 11 (50%)

            Summary

Lots of claims of tight games, and this data tends to support that. Combined nearly 46% of my games end up one run affairs vs Real MLB Average of 27.3% one-run games so far this season. I am uncertain how to create greater divide, but if you feel a whole lot of your games are close, they probably are!

            Overall Impressions

In terms of seeking out a more accurate percentage of hit type distribution, I could not be happier with the results thus far. The distribution, and simply the way runs are generated feel very realistic, make for some great games and great box scores as well. While I will continue to track the distribution every 10 games or so, i am reasonably confident that these will stay (mostly) true for the rest of the season. I am also not dominating my league, but rather am in a very competitive race that is so far against my biggest rival, so the fun factor is definitely there for me.

I want to start to examine pitching a bit closer, and would gladly welcome some of your thoughts on the matter. I feel that my overall pitching is a bit dominating, and the stats are only skewed by a timely multi-run blast for the computer. I would like to see a little more variety in computer scoring as well.

I think the close games are just part of MLB the Show. I cannot think of anything (at least this late) that would make a consistent impact on scoring variety. It could just mean i need more focus to keep the "comeback code" away.

            More to come!

Re: FenwayMac Variety Hitting and Scoring Sliders

Now that I am feeling reasonably comfortable with the human hitting sliders I am now looking for ways to understand the CPU hitting results against in my franchise, I came to the realization that while I do not have a log for each game to show how the CPU runs have scored, I do have the box scores, which means that I have access to determine what time of hit they received and at what percentage (just like the human hit sliders). I ran the numbers and here is how it came out...

              CPU Total Hits: 441
              CPU Singles: 315 (71.4%)
              CPU Doubles: 67 (15.2%)
              CPU Triples: 9 (2.0%)
              CPU Home Runs: 50 (11.3%)

Actual MLB Average (through 67 games

              Singles - 65.2%
              Doubles - 19.6%
              Triples - 2.1%
              Home Runs - 13.1%

You will see that the CPU is hitting well over 6% more singles than MLB average, 4.4% less doubles, around the same triples, and 1.8% LESS home runs than MLB average.

My initial thoughts that the computer was hitting only for power was very wrong, in fact I now believe that a majority of CPU scoring against me is coming from a couple tap singles followed by a long blast. If that blast does not come, then neither do the runs for the computer, which may explain why the hits allowed per game is close to league average while the runs per game is almost a full run under league average.

              Course of action

In light of the numbers, it appears that it is the middle ground that could use correction. I no longer feel as if contact needs to be bumped up for computer, as it would probably just lead to more singles, which need a reduction of 5-6% as-is. The idea is to take those percentages and distribute most of it to doubles, and to a lesser extent, home runs.

Also worth noting is the computer is batting .249 against me (442 hits/1778 AB)so they could possibly benefit from an slight increase in doubles as well as batting average.

Definitely looking for your feedback on this, but my idea is to possibly raise computer solid hits by one click, essentially making the CPU hitting set:

              Contact -6
              Power - 5
              Timing - 5
              Solid Hits - 4

My thinking on this is that if I could slightly reduce the amount of choppers and pop flies, instead increasing more line drives, then a few more balls would drop in to the outfield, increasing the number of extra base hits, as well as batting average.

I know that a lot of people reduce outfield reaction and speed in order to create more holes in the outfield, but I am really hesitant to do that, at least at this point.

I think I will give this a go for the next 10 games and hope that I don't suddenly go 0-10! I will update the slider set on page one to indicate the solid hits for CPU slider is currently in testing.

              Any feedback is always welcome!

Re: FenwayMac Variety Hitting and Scoring Sliders

Test game #2 with increase to CPU solid hits. Game one allowed for three doubles, a triple, and a HR to Toronto, while this game against Baltimore allowed three doubles and a HR.

This was without a doubt one of the most exciting games of the season, with scoring variety of many types, plus a few lead changes as well. I can say that with solid hits increased, the CPU is getting the ball out in the gap quicker which is allowing it to split the fielders and create multiple base hits, which is what I am looking for.

So far, CPU hits per game hangs right around eight, and while doubles (and one triple) have increased, my pitchers have yet to become gas cans for home run barrages (so far). I find I am also walking a few more batters because I am scared to death to attack the middle of the plate!

FM, what pitching method do you use? And what do you have Hum control and consistency at?

I use meter based pitching and human control and consistency are each set at 3 (as are the CPU pitchers).

Re: FenwayMac Variety Hitting and Scoring Sliders

I'm interested to know what your walks are at. I focus a lot on pitch results.

I actually am settling in on my sliders which are nearly identical to yours. The difference being the pitching control and consistency. I'm dialed in at roughly 62% (I haven't actually logged the data but I check after every single game) which is close to the league average. My control for HUM and the CPU are at 1.

I've tried higher but the strike percentages skyrocket to above 70. I know some of this is dependent on the skill of the player, but I can't for the life of me keep close to the rest of the league in Base on Balls. I even try intentionally extended at bats to try and get rewarded with the walk.

Any input or advice on how to get more walks? I also don't walk very batters either.

As I have played this game over several years, I have just had to admit a couple of truths: I will NEVER be competitive in the walks department, and I will ALWAYS lead the league in minimum strikeouts.

No matter which sets I have used, I may start out the season competitive in either of these categories, but by the end of the year the result is typically the same. This year is no different as I trail the entire league at 2.09 walks per game.

By the way, props to the game makers. I ran top five actual MLB team walks per game average vs my sliders and it was 3.90 (actual) to 3.91 (my set). Also, they accurately nailed 3 of the actual top 5 teams that are drawing the walks. Not bad!

The bottom five run 2.45 (actual) to 2.38 (my set). These sliders appear to match up pretty well to reality in the walks department.

Like you, I also like to run the counts up and try to draw walks as often as possible. Earlier in the season I was running in the top 20 in walks, but over time it has slipped as I have simply run into a lot of pitchers that simply WILL NOT WALK BATTERS. So basically, it is either swing away or strike out looking.

I hesitate to vary the sliders from 3 consistency and 3 accuracy and here is why: I used to use 1 and 1 sliders, and drew more walks because the CPU was missing the strike zone so badly that it was easy to spot a ball right out of the pitchers hand. This was great and all, but on the flip side of that positive was the negative that the CPU would MANY more meatballs that I would just slaughter. This could potentially inflate my BA,HR,SLG,RBI, among how many other batting stats.

With the sliders where they are at I find that the CPU is much better at painting the corners, which can sometimes lead to walks based on the variable strike zone, or could also lead to more strikeouts looking (which is actually a good thing for me to experience).

It fluctuates. you will see some of my box scores where I draw one walk and others where I draw five. Accepting that I will never fully compete in this category, I instead focus on doing my best on taking advantage of what walks i do draw to move those runners along to score more runs. I had a couple runs scored based on walked in runners, which is nice!

After getting absolutely owned in the first two games with Toronto (14 Runs, 8 doubles, 2 triples, and a HR) it was time for me to open up the throttle. Even through I put up 11 runs, these runs were generated using every club in the bag!

Pay no mind to the steal home by Ortiz. What happened was I accidentally hit the steal button pre-pitch and it just so happened that the pitcher threw a wild one at that moment. Papi was fired up!

                            60-game mark with new sliders!

You all know the project at this point (if not it is laid out in the first post), so I will just go straight to the numbers:

                            My Franchise

                            1B - 63.6%
                            2B - 20.6%
                            3B - 1.8%
                            HR - 14%

                            Actual MLB Average

                            1B - 65.3%
                            2B - 19.4%
                            3B - 2.2%
                            HR - 13.1%

                            Summary

As more games are played I continue to have confidence in the results. The original goal was to shave about 5-7% off of home run totals and redistribute more singles, doubles, while hoping that triples don't get out of whack. My numbers seem fair. I hit for slightly more power (thus the doubles and HR totals), but slightly less triples (due to a general lack in speed runners). These percentages have remained fairly stable throughout each 10-game check in, so I don't anticipate any further anomalies as the sample size continues to grow. Though I will continue to track the percentages.

More importantly though is the variety of how runs are scored. RBI singles, RBI doubles, RBI triples, Sac Flies, Runs walked in, Runs off of wild pitches, Home runs. It has made the game feel very real, feel like I can sustain a rally, and also feel that I can come back on any team in any game if I focus hard enough. I burn through a lot of games pretty quickly, and the reason for that is it when you have great variety, the games never get boring!

Unless things suddenly change, I feel good leaving the HUM sliders right where they are. If you have any questions about any of my team stats feel free to post or PM me and I can get you the data!

                            CPU Hitting Sliders

For the next phase of slider examination, I am looking to see if some form of slider adjustment to CPU hitting sliders can create a better spread of hit type (1B,2B,3B,HR) as well as HOW the CPU scores their runs. After running the percentages after 50 games using the CPU sliders listed on page one of this thread, the percentages were as follows:

                            1B- 71.4%
                            2B- 15.2%
                            3B- 2.1%
                            HR- 11.3%

The percentages for singles was quite high compared to league average, while doubles, ran low, and home runs were somewhat close to within range. Given that I do not give up a ton of runs, my assumption was that the CPU often hits a couple singles, which then either fizzles out or is rewarded with a long bomb.

The goal then becomes to shave about 5-7% off of singles, and redistribute to doubles, triples, and home runs (mostly doubles), and hopefully those extra base hits would result in a great variety of how the computer scores its runs.

For the first test I increased the CPU solid hits slider by 1 (raising it to 4). I then started playing some games in hopes that I suddenly did not tank my season to a slaughter of hits and runs.

What I found out nearly immediately was that the computer does not necessarily receive more hits per game (8.7 hits per game pre-slider change, 8.8 hits per game post-slider change), BUT when they get one out in the gap, it travels a bit farther and drops a bit quicker, thus not allowing my fielder to allows get under it for a fly ball out. More balls in the gap have meant more doubles and triples, which has also meant more scoring by these means.

Here are the hit variety percentages after 10 games with the slider bump including the variance from pre-slider bump):

                            1B- 63.2% (-8.2%)
                            2B- 21.8% (+6.6%)
                            3B- 3.4% (+1.3%)
                            HR- 11.5% (+0.2%)

                            Summary

Bear in mind that this is a small sample size of 10-games, but the dramatic decrease in singles, coupled with the (mainly) doubles increase, and being delivered with virtually the same hits per game average has been a very welcome change to previous results. These numbers also seem to correspond very closely to actual MLB league averages...at least so far.

The feel of the game has been great as well. I have posted some box scores to give you an idea how the computer is scoring against me. I will also say that the extra bump in solid hits has made it a bit more scary to take the mound. If I do not hit the meter line just as I intend, and that pitch gets away from me, then there is a very good chance that I am going to pay with a deep double or long ball. The need to "be perfect" when pitching has definitely upped the ante a bit, and my attempts to nibble have resulted in more walks to the CPU, which is a good thing!

If I have any area of concern at the moment it is the .246 batting average against me. This has actual decreased very minimally, but i would hope it would have gone up at least a bit. This may need to be achieved through a bump to CPU Contact, but I would like a larger sample first.

Anyways...thank you for indulging me on my project. Playing around with these sliders has really been an lot of fun and I feel that the results I have experienced have definitely made an impact on actual stats as well as fun factor. Let me know if you have any questions!

Sorry saw it middle of thread, your low walks is because of meter, meter is too accurate , use Classic and I guarantee your walks given up go up. Look at anybody that uses meter, it's too accurate.
