    Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

It is driven by many variables.

I threw a fantastic game against Baltimore this morning.

    2ER over 8 innings.

    In a 2-1 loss. Tanaka went 7.2

I made one mistake pitch and it was the difference in the game.

Again sometimes in the bigs great hitters will hit pitchers pitches. It is a fact.

If it is happening too often for your taste move CPU contact down to 4 first.

Also don't jump to conclusions in 2,3 even 4 games.

Go through your rotation 2 full times before drawing any conclusions.

Everyones skill level varies. Don't fall into patterns either.

HOF is a true step up on strategy and approach.

The CPU either chases it but makes contact and fouls it off or gets a hit or they don't chase anything at all. I had an AB against Pedroia and was up 0-2, I tossed a slider away, a changeup down and away and he took both. I then tried to put a fastball up and in and he turned on it like he knew it was coming. I swear sometimes I feel like Armor and I are playing 2 completely different games, for me there is absolutely no setting the CPU up as they are super human on HOF. If I could get the CPU to be just a little more aggressive on AS then I'd be fine but unfortunately they take a few too many pitches for my liking.

I have been getting good K numbers on HOF with timing on 3 and foul frequency on 1. As long as you are working the plate and mixing up the speed you should be fine. I am 97 games into my Yankee franchise and sit 6th on strikeouts on the majors, HOF pitching the entire season. Tanaka is 4th or 5th in strikeouts and Betances and Chapman both have a ridiculous K per 9 IP ratio. My team ERA is also 10th in MLB.

Not to hijack A&S's thread, but take a look at my HOF pitching sliders. They may do the trick for you if combined with his hitting sliders. It is a challenge on HOF for sure, but a fun one.

Hey Armor would you recommend your game sliders or quick manage if I use player lock. I like to play 1 game, sim 4 with a player lock in between.

Yeah, that is a TV issue. Look to see if your TV has a "game mode" and switch to that when playing The Show. That will help the lag input time.

                Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

Well damn do I feel dumb, disregard everything I said before. I read up a little on the classic pitching thread linked in the OP and quickly realized that what I thought was a good release point when pitching was actually terrible. In other words I was holding far too long and thus was hanging pitches left and right causing the influx in hits given up. I took my new found knowledge into the last game at Colorado and even though I lost 5-4 I only gave up 7 hits, were it not for surrendering 1 triple and 2 HR's I might have been able to win that game. The ball sure does carry in Colorado, not that it doesn't carry in other parks thanks to the new ball physics but at least it feels realistic when playing in Colorado. Anyways my pitching was light years better once I realized how to gauge the release point, granted I had to turn on vibration so I could actually figure it out. My pitchers stat line for that game...

                Hisashi Iwakuma - 6.0 IP, 6 Hits, 5 ER, 3 BB's, 4 K's
                Marc Rzepczynski - 1.0 IP, 1 Hit, 1 K
                Nick Vincent - 1.0 IP, 1 K

As you can see it was light years better now that I know what I was doing wrong previously. Iwakuma still struggled as he got hit hard in the third inning in route to giving up 3 runs but I stuck with him and he settled down. I'll keep the vibration on until I figure out this whole release point thing but it felt damn good to lose a game but not because I was obliterated in the process. I wish we could throw a few warm up pitches with our starters before the game started so I could use that to identify the release point for each instead of trying to figure it out when the pitches count though, that would be extremely helpful.

Anyways, ignore all my previous rambling. It felt good to be able to identify what I was doing wrong and see results instantly.

Played my first 2 games on hall of fame pitching last night. A 10-2 win and a 6-3 win against the Reds.

I like to think it's a fluke since the Reds have lost their 11th and 12th straight game and I had won my 6th and 7th straight.

I did notice more hits from the CPU, but I had Stroman and Estrada on the bump who kept things under control.

I have an upcoming series against the Yankees where Liriano, Happ and Latos will be on the mound. We will see how that works but so far I'm excited for hall of fame pitching.

Note: lost game one by a score of 7-5. Was down 4-1 and came back to go up 5-4. Bullpen blew it and lost 7-5 in the 9th.

So, I have now went back to quick counts. With pitching on HOF. And I must say. I am really enjoying this game.

Don't get me wrong. QC does have its flaws. But, for me, the benefits outweigh. I start getting nervous in the 5th and 6th innings and have pulled my pitcher because of that, putting extra stress on my bullpen. It's great. You really have to manage you pitching so much more. I just wish you got 0-0 counts on occasion and some way to pull the pitcher before the count. Then it would be almost perfect.

Each pitcher is different, aren't they? For instance, I don't hold the button for Klubers sinker as long as I have to for Otero. If I do, then Kluber's sinker goes dead center no matter where I aim it. Also, if I hold the button till it just starts to vibrate for Carrasco's FB it lifts, but if I do the same for Allen, its almost spot on.....

No doubt QC is a furious change of pace. I do enjoy it as well. But for me most of the time I will be playing full counts.

But it is nice to have the QC option to play some quick games when I do have some limited time.

The one thing that you do get from QC is highly realistic pitch counts and highly stressful decisions to make with your bullpen.

Another feature that was tuned well for 17 and does not get much press is pitcher fatigue. You really have to manage your bullpen this year properly. And also I am starting to do the AAA to MLB shuffle with my 40 man roster and the bullpen. If I have a stressful series with my pen, I end up moving a couple of guys down to AAA and moving up a couple of guys for a series.

Yeah...it does use an option....but if I don’t and I end up going to the pen again in the next series....I have guys running on fumes. This is used strictly for middle relievers and one long reliever if applicable.

Such a cool thing and a major managerial/GM thing in your franchise.

                          YES YES YES!!!!!

This is exactly one of the features of classic pitching that makes it so damn cool. You really have to learn each pitchers stuff, and effects of holding down the pitch button too short, too long and what is the right amount of time.

Also....and this is huge. I know how long to hold down to make a pitch get out of the zone (splitters, sinkers, curves, 2 seam fastballs) or tail back in (cutter, back door sliders).

And then mistake pitches will absolutely happen as well and are sometimes un-avoidable. With Classic even when you feel you did everything right, the dice roll is not in your favor. That is the player ratings and dice roll result (Strato-Matic style remember?).

I play with no ball marker or vibration. This is the ultimate challenge and believe me it is for highly advanced classic pitchers (those that have a full grasp of the pitching control interface and a great feel for their pitchers stuff).

And I pay dearly for it sometimes. But I can’t play any other way anymore (marker off and vibration off). It is a true difficulty enhancer for those that are consistently dealing on AS......if you are still dealing with these two things turned off....then move up to HOF.

                          HOF pitching is calling you!!!!!

I don't know how you guys manage injuries as I'm close to lowering it to 0, this is getting ridiculous. First it was Danny Valencia, then Nelson Cruz, then Robinson Cano, then Mike Zunino, then Jarrod Dyson and now Jean Segura. Out of those 5 players all but 1 of them is out 1-2 months. It's one thing to face adversity during the course of a season but this is getting a little stupid at this point. I haven't seen anyone else even mention having a lot of injuries but for some reason half my starting lineup is out 1-2 months and I haven't even gotten to June yet. At this rate my entire team will be on the DL and I'll be forfeiting games because I don't have enough players to even field a team. Tell me this is some sort of fluke as I'm ready to sim the rest of the season and just be done with it. It's kinda hard to get excited to play with Shawn O'Malley and the like. I know teams have an unfortunate stream of injuries but I can't recall a team literally losing all their best players to injury within 2 months of the season and not even small injuries they're all of the 1-2 month variety.

Are these injuries occurring in actual played games?

                              Or your simmed games.

I have injuries at 8 for games played and 5 for simmed games.

                              It works great.

If your using this set-up....you are snake bit. I always live with my injuries. It is part of the simulation for me.

In my Matheny Manifesto YR2 file, I lost Ender Inciarte for the season, Bryce Harper was out 6 weeks, Yordano Ventura (RIP) out 2 months, Kenta Madea out 2 months.

I have had to use my bench depth and AAA guys to fill in and solider through.

I am 90 games in and I have my injury at 8 and 5 at sim and I have only had 2 injuries that needed the DL. One was 2 weeks and one was a month. I have had players injured during the game but they either was only out for a few days or no time missed at all. The CPU simmed games I see a lot of injuries.
