Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders
I also played the first game of my Yankees franchise with these same settings and won 8-6 almost blowing a 8-0 lead. In that game Severino couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn and walked 6 guys in 5 innings. The pen issued another 2 walks and Chapman hit the 1st two guys he faced.
So I decided to start my Yankees franchise over when you gave us the update to your sliders. I don’t play exactly like you as I don’t use clear screen and this year I have been listening to the catcher 99% of the time for that sim feel. Even though I don’t play exactly like you I have always used your exact sliders and they have made the game very enjoyable to play. I feel challenged and I always feel that I have earned my victories.
So Severino struggled through the first 2 innings throwing 47 pitches, walking 2 guys and giving up a few hits. But in the 3rd he gives up back-to-back-to-back homers on 3 pitches. And then he gives up another homer a few hitters later. In total he gives up 4 homers in one inning and is over 70 pitches after 3. That didn’t seem “right” so I simmed to the end of the game out of frustration and am planning on starting over tonight.
I’m thinking of going back to cpu power, contact, and solid hits to 5 and lowering human pitching sliders to 4. Like I said, I don’t get hung up on how many walks or strikeouts there are, as long as I feel like I’m being challenged. But I think cpu power and contact at 6 is too much for the way I play. But of course if i do this and win I will feel like I made the game to easy. I really have a love/hate relationship with this game. I’ve always simply loaded your sliders, made your recommended changed and played without any second thoughts. But giving up 4 homers in one inning with Severino has me stuckYankees modern day

So don't think any other interface ignores ratings. I'm not anti-classic, just don't feel like you're giving up "ratings influence" by using another one."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I didn't say you are giving up ratings i just fell like classic is to much ratings and not enough user input and so like 10 years ago.Comment

Man, I am stuck, Armour. I play a Brewer franchise and a Yankee franchise. I loaded up your exact sliders (before this past update). I swept the Padres (which I guess isn’t s big feat). The first game was a lopsided 13-4 win, the last was a 4-3 victory where I scored 2 runs in the 9th. This was with the human pitching sliders at 4 and cpu power and contact at 6. I only issued 2 walks the entire series, but like you I don’t get hung up on that stuff as long as I’m liking the other results and feeling challenged.

Thanks for your reply. Normally I would agree with you and wouldn’t have even posted this. But I thought giving up 4 homers in one inning with an ace was pretty extreme. But you are right, I have always trusted Armour’s sliders and they haven’t failed me yet. But as a die hard Yankees fan it sure hurts to give up 4 homers in one inning to the Jays!!Yankees modern day

I know the feeling. I just blew a 3-2 lead in the 9th to the same Jays. 2 outs, 1-2 count on Kendrys Morales and he hits an opposite field homer off Chapman to tie the game. I was so frustrated after that on consecutive pitches I gave up a solid single and hit a batter before finally striking out Travis to end the inning. I eventually walked off with a 4-3 win in the 10th so I felt a little better after that. It’s just funny how this game can cause you to lose focus so quickly. Like the great Yogi Berra said, “Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical”.

Interested to see what kind of pitch speeds people are playing with? I'm on 6/8 now, having tried both 8/8 and 7/8 and finding that 60% of the time, I was late every time. It's a v personal slider, just interested in seeing the spread!

Tried 5/5 as per Armor, but as usual, I’m always a bit late on whatever he uses. So just like last year, I am one notch below his setting at 4/4.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment
